Bosch Universal Plus Mixer with Stainless Bowl

$649.00

Bosch Universal Plus Mixer with Stainless Bowl

This mixer is identical to the standard Bosch Universal Plus mixer, except that it has a stainless steel bowl, and it does not include the standard plastic bowl. The stainless bowl, when purchased separately, retails for $169—so its inclusion with this mixer is a tremendous value!

When ordered with the stainless bowl, the mixer includes all items that come when the mixer is ordered with the plastic bowl (except for the plastic bowl). See the list of what's included below, under the heading "Included Standard".

nullThe Bosch Universal mixer has a special reputation among discerning cooks. It thrives on heavy tasks that will break conventional mixers down within a few uses, and Bosch offers advantages found in no other machine!

Some companies sell mixers based mainly on highly paid endorsements and continual ad campaigns. Bosch, on the other hand, doesn’t advertise this mixer at all. The success of the Bosch Universal Plus mixer has been growing for decades based entirely on its reputation for better performance. Instead of paying millions each year to housewares celebrities and cooking shows, Bosch puts their money and effort into engineering advancements and quality of construction. Continual refinement has made today's Bosch Universal a kitchen machine like no other.

nullThe newest model is the Bosch Universal Plus. Its 500 watt motor has a new design with four times the motor life expectancy... and it was known for its longevity before. Just as importantly, it has a unique transmission that gets the motor’s powerful torque to the bowl better than other mixers do. Other updates include suction cup feet and a pop-out drive shaft for fast, easy cleanup. An additional speed was added, while increasing the speed range with a lower low gear and a higher high gear, still including the momentary pulse feature. The advantages of the Universal Plus over common mixers are now greater than ever.

Note: The Bosch Universal Plus is rated as a 500 watt motor here in the U.S. The UL (Underwriters Laboratory) recently changed the way they rate appliance motors being sold in the U.S. market. As a result, the motor used in the Bosch Universal Plus mixer has been re-rated from 800 watts to 500 watts, but it’s actually exactly the same powerful motor that Bosch has used for years and years. The only change that has occurred is in the rating issued by UL.

Major Advantages

There’s no overhead gearbox with the Bosch, because its power comes from below—a design that has big advantages. The base of the machine provides the space to transmit motor power to the bowl using a belt rather than gears. The small plastic gears in overhead-driven machines break under heavy work loads, they transfer power poorly, and the heat that quickly builds up in their tight enclosure causes premature failure when worked hard. The Bosch belt efficiently transfers far more torque, runs cool, and is fantastically durable, with an amazing twenty-year failure rate below one percent. Unlike top heavy overhead-drive machines, this engineering gives the Bosch a very low center of gravity that makes it a breeze to handle. Bottom drive also provides full, open-top bowl access. With no obstruction you see everything that’s happening, and adding ingredients couldn't be easier. Without a lot of meshing gear teeth, the Bosch is also a very quiet machine.

nullBowl Shape

The Bosch Universal's bowl is shaped like a large bundt cake form, a design that excels at both mixing and whipping. Twin whips mount on top of the drive column, turned from below by a stainless drive shaft. The whips rest lightly against the bottom of the bowl, spinning rapidly as they rotate. And the bowl's shape ensures that your ingredients are mixed perfectly—lumps have nowhere to hide. The Bosch mixer's whipping action is so powerful it will make a cup and a half of meringue from one egg white. And being only 10.6" tall with bowl mounted, all of this performance fits easily under your cupboards.

Fabulous Dough Mixer

In addition to its stellar mixing and whipping performance, the Bosch Universal kitchen mixer is legendary among bread lovers. It makes superior bread, faster and easier, with its patented three-arm stainless steel BreadMaster dough hook—with the strength to knead up to fourteen pounds of dough that has a hydration of 60% or more, at a time. The BreadMaster hook vigorously incorporates oxygen, processing 100% of your dough every four rotations. Other mixers just stir the dough, never achieving the Bosch's level of gluten development. Proper gluten development leads to light bread with ideal texture. Merely stirring the dough produces "brick bread." As many as eight loaves of delicious fresh sandwich bread can be out of your oven in just 75 to 80 minutes! (We recommend hand washing the BreadMaster dough hook to keep the finish nice. Click here for a dishwasher safe stainless steel dough  hook that's shaped just like the BreadMaster dough hook.)

nullSmaller Batches Too

Dough for as many as eight 1.75-pound bread loaves can be produced in a single batch. And with the dough hook extender (currently included free) you can make outstanding dough for as few as one or two loaves. When whipping, the Bosch whips pick up exceptionally small ingredient amounts thanks to the bowl's tubular bottom profile. The bowl that comes standard with the Bosch Universal Plus mixer on this page is stainless steel. More details are under the specs tab, above. Click here for a  basic whole wheat bread recipe for the Bosch Universal mixer

Gluten free?

The Bosch Universal also provides the control you need to make delicious gluten-free recipes, tailored specifically to your family’s needs. Nothing beats the tastiness of homemade and fresh!

Recommendation for Challah or Bagel Dough

Kneading very low hydration dough? The center-column bowl included with the mixer on this page is perfect for making large batches of cookie dough and whole wheat bread dough (up to 14 pounds) as well as smaller batches of low hydration dough like challah or bagel dough (up to 10 lbs). For large batches of low hydration dough, however, we recommend using the  ER1 stainless mixing bowl. A full 14 lbs of dough with a hydration as low as 40% can be kneaded in the ER1 bowl. The ER1 bowl has been in service for 35+ years and is designed specifically for kneading a large volume of extra heavy dough.

Complete Kitchen Center

Extending beyond the limits of a simple stand mixer, the Bosch Universal Plus is a complete kitchen center. Available attachments let you do powerful blending, food processing, grinding, juicing and more. By eliminating duplicate power units, you save money and kitchen space while using superior, German-engineered kitchen tools. Below, you can see a wide range of optional accessories. From food processing to pasta making, the Bosch Universal Plus offers the tools to do the job quickly, easily, and properly. The Universal Plus is available with or without the blender; the mixer is the same either way, so you can always add the blender later if you wish.

Included Standard

The stainless steel mixing bowl, splash ring and lid, BreadMaster dough hook and French whips are all included standard. Plus: The dough hook extender is now included free, allowing you to mix even super-small batches. If you're upgrading from a Bosch Universal Classic mixer (MUM6 model), your accessories will work on this new mixer, so there's no need to replace them!

Bosch DB3 Replacement Whips, Pair

For maximum whipping action of lighter foods in the Bosch Universal Plus mixer, these original-equipment DB3 wire whips are ideal for pourable batters and egg whites. Because the Bosch Universal is easily powerful enough to twist them if they're used in batters that are heavier or contain large thick chunks, though they're very durable for their intended use, they are not warranted. DB2 Batter Whisks, Pair

These DB2 Batter Whisks are an alternative to the DB3 whips that come standard with the Bosch Universal Plus mixer. While the DB3 whips are perfect for light materials, the clustered wire arrangement of these DB2 Batter Whisks makes them ideal for thicker (but still pourable) batters. Because the Bosch Universal is easily powerful enough to twist them if they're used in batters that are too heavy or contain large thick chunks, though they're very durable for their intended use, they are not warranted. "Quantity 1" of this item means one pair of DB2 Batter Whisks.

Dough Glide for Bosch Universal

The Dough Glide pops over the top of the mixing bowl's drive shaft. The most common reason to use one of these is that with some recipes, dough that gets between the top of the column and the bottom of the dough hook hub can blacken, and that's prevented by the Dough Glide. Not for use with the wire whips, batter whisks, dough hook extender, cookie paddles or cake paddles. For use with the dough hook only. See the main product page for additional important details.

Cake Paddles & Metal Whip Drive

These new cake paddles with metal whip drive attach to the Bosch Universal Plus (or older style Bosch Classic) mixer, for making cake and quick bread batter as well as other pourable batters and frosting. They let you make better cake because they avoid incorporating too much air into the batter, which causes cakes to fall during baking. See the main product page for these cake paddles for additional important details.

Pro-Line Cookie Paddles & Metal Whip Drive

In the Bosch Universal Plus mixer, Bosch recommends using the wire whips and batter whisks for pourable batters, not heavier mixes. The Einkorn Cookbook

Einkorn is an ancient grain in the wheat family that is easy to digest, less likely to cause gut inflammation, tolerable for those with gluten sensitivity and is becoming one of the most popular grains/flours on the market. Not only does it have outstanding health benefits, but it’s delicious too!

How does one prepare this ancient grain? Popular food bloggers, Tim and Shanna Mallon of Food Loves Writing, bring einkorn to your table with this beautiful whole food cookbook that’s a pleasure to read and cook from. The book includes a brief history of einkorn, an overview of its health benefits, tips on how to use and store it, and over 100 easy-to-follow recipes all featuring this ancient grain. Recipes are broken into sections including breakfast, appetizers, breads, main dishes, and desserts.

The einkorn flour called for throughout this book is either all-purpose flour, sifted whole grain flour, or 100% whole grain flour. Substituting whole grain flour for the AP flour works for us, but to make up for the extra absorption of whole grain flour over AP flour, we add 5% more liquid than the recipe calls for.

Are you interested in grinding whole einkorn berries at home to make fresh, nutrient-rich flour? We offer organic, non-hybridized einkorn berries as well as quality grain mills and flour sifters . You may also be interested in a food dehydrator to dry sprouted einkorn berries.

Second Bosch
By G C. in TX on 4/13/2016 Verified Buyer

We were concerned when comparing our old Bosch (lots of metal, SS bowls, etc) that we would not be as happy with the new, lighter Bosch. Boy, were we wrong - we love our new Bosch. Makes great bread, whips stiff cream very fast and with less noise. Cleans up quickly and easily. Made a very good decision.

Bread, Cookies or Cake... Big or Small Batches.
By Jack L on 4/12/2016 Verified Buyer

The Bosch Universal Plus is incredible. I purchased it to make large batches of bread. And as a bread mixer, it has no peer at this price point. It easily handles 8-10 pounds of bread dough, I do it all the time. Its heavy duty motor and low gears offers the torque to knead incredible amounts of dough. I regularly mix the six loaf recipe available through Pleasant Hill. You don't have to measure the flour. Just follow the instructions, add flour until the dough cleans the side of the bowl, and the dough will turn out perfect. The kneading action of the Bosch is excellent, resulting in perfect bread every time. The new Hook Extender significantly improves performance, large batch or small.

The surprise was how well the Bosch works with small batches. I read that it was great for large batches but less than perfect with small batches. This just is not true. It will mix and knead a small batch of bread, cookies, or whatever with no issues. But it does work better with the Hook Extender as it prevents the dough from collecting on the center column.

It is also incredible for small or very large batches of cookie dough. Whether you bake for home, church, bake sales, charity, you just cannot beat this mixer.

I also purchased the Nutrimill from Pleasant Hill and love it. I buy whole wheat from the local LDS storehouse.

You just can't beat this mixer. Whether it is 8 lbs of Challah or whole wheat, cookies, it does it all!

Buy from Pleasant Hill Grain, they're great!

Lives up to my very high expectations, after reading so much "hype" before buying
By Jeffrey J. in WA on 1/24/2017 Verified Buyer

1/20/17: I've had a Kitchenaid mixer for maybe 20 years, and three or four years ago bought a second one because the first was too small for the size of batches we wanted to do as our family has grown from two people to nine. We made four loaves of bread at least once a week for a couple of years, and finally a gear in the newer six and a half qt. Kitchen Aid went out. I replaced it, and a couple weeks later it went out again. I suspect that maybe the gear it meshed with should have been replaced as well, but at the time it didn't look like there was any wear, we were half way through our holiday baking, and I didn't want to wait until I could get all the parts again and do the work, and I had been lusting after the Bosch for some time after watching their videos. We finally bit the bullet and bought it. It was a big chunk of change from our perspective, but it was well worth the money. We've made pizza dough, bread, Nisua, a Finnish sweet bread, and more pizza dough. The Bosch just laughed in the face of these tasks. We'll have to find a more worthy challenge. This machine is a BEAST in the kitchen, in a good way. Recommended.

UPDATE 4/24/17: We are still quite happy with this mixer. We have not been making as much bread with this as we have in the past, mostly just due to less freezer space and less time available. But we do make a triple batch of pizza dough pretty much every single week, and the Bosch just breezes through it... we are at out character limit: (

Eating Biscotti as I Write
By Wayne R. in CA on 9/17/2016 Verified Buyer

I have only had this for a short time, but I have already made bread, biscotti and a cake with it, I am very happy with its power and versatility. It was very easy to clean, a little loud but I guess you can't have power without noise, not so loud it scared my cats though so that is good, or maybe not it would be good to get them out of the kitchen when cooking. I had always considered a Kitchen Aid, but then I kept reading that the newer ones aren't powerful and break down in a very short time, so for now I could not be happier, well I would have been happier if someone gave it to me and I did not have to pay. In any event well worth the money and now another biscotti. Well it is a few months later and just used it for all my Xmas baking, as a matter of fact just 20 minutes ago and I am still very happy with it. Thanks

Best bread mixer ever!!!
By Karol H. in MO on 2/14/2016 Verified Buyer

I've tried many mixers, and the Bosch Universal Plus is the absolute best!!! My first try at mixing was a large batch of French Bread. The recipe was easy and it was great to have the convenience of being able to add the ingredients while the mixer was slowly mixing everything together. The dough turned out the perfect consistency on the first try. After the dough was raised I formed the baguettes and let raise again. The bread was wonderful and so was the machine!

So many uses from one machine!
By Dargan G. in SC on 4/13/2016 Verified Buyer

I have been using the Bosch Kitchen machine for over 15 years. When my old one finally died after much use (and abuse!), of course I ordered the new Universal Plus. Our family uses it to make batches of 4 loaves of whole grain bread at one time and mix cake and cookie batters. I invested in an extra blender so we would always have a clean one because we make smoothies constantly with frozen fruit and it does a wonderful job! I also use the chopper/slicer attachment for chopping veggies and making french fries. My husband is a hunter and we use the meat grinder attachment to process our venison every fall. My kitchen can't function without this machine!

Love my new mixer!
By Southerncatholicmom on 8/20/2016 Verified Buyer

I had a Sears brand Kitchen Aid mixer for 15+ years. It was never great. I have wanted this mixer for over 10 years. Finally my husband bought it for my birthday! It's all that I hoped for. I've made my sourdough bread and it turned out so much better than using just my hands for kneading (I'm impatient). I used the whisks for cutting in butter for pie crusts. Then changed to dough hook for mixing with liquid for pie crusts. There is no leftover at the bottom of the bowl. That was one of the problems with KA mixer. I look forward to other attachments and more food prepared with my Bosch!

BOSCH LIVES FOREVER!
By Sharon C. in ND on 10/21/2016 Verified Buyer

I received a Bosch Universal for my 40th birthday. I am now 67 years old and my Bosch finally bit the dirt. That is 27 years of making our own bread and a lot of other daily uses. I have now purchased my 2nd Bosch Universal. The new Bosch Universal Plus mixer. All of the attachments which I had purchased over the years work with the new mixer. How much greater can it get!
