Tabletop Fruit Press 1.25 Gallon, All Stainless

Fresh Cider from Tabletop Fruit Press

Excellent for apples or grapes, this extremely well-built 1.25 gallon press is great for smaller production quantities. The press includes an anti-rotation plate that can be screwed to your choice of surfaces; one handy approach is to screw the plate to a small sheet of plywood which can then easily be clamped to your table or other support. After the anti-rotation plate is fastened down, the main press assembly can be lifted out and replaced in a moment. After a pressing cycle, the stainless side rods flex apart at top to allow the assembly of screw yoke, forcing screw and pressing plate to be lifted out for removal of the spent apple pomace.

The tabletop press is also perfect for making nut milk including almond milk, soy milk, rice milk and coconut milk, as well as squeezing honey from the comb.

The pressing basket measures 5-3/4" x 11-1/8" high, and the pressing plate measures 5.5" diameter. Overall height of the press with the pressing screw turned down is 15", and the base plate measures 7-3/4" x 7-3/4". Handle length is 9-3/4".

The press includes a fine-mesh, food-grade nylon pressing bag that contains mash even under very high pressure. A 5/8" x 8-3/4" drain tube attaches to the drain spout of the juice tray.

Lubricating the Acme Screw

It's important to keep the acme forcing screw well lubricated with food safe grease; this greatly reduces wear and turning effort, and dramatically increases maximum pressure and juice yield.

If you ever want to press only a very small quantity of your product at a time, you can do that with this press because when fully turned down, the pressing plate reaches all the way to the pan, leaving zero gap.

Mounting screws for the anti-rotation plate are not included.

Accessory Long Tube for Tabletop Press
The Tabletop Fruit Press comes standard with an 8-3/4” long drain tube that is ideal for many usage setups, including pressing next to a sink with the catch container in the sink. This 36” long accessory tube allows placement of the press on a standard-height (36”) countertop or table, with discharge into a container sitting on the floor. It’s made of non-toxic, BPA-free, FDA grade, clear vinyl tubing. It has an inside diameter of 5/8”, an outside diameter of 7/8”, and a wall thickness of 1/8”.The wall thickness of this tube enables it to resist the bending that would cause lighter-walled tubing to kink, causing juice flow to be blocked. This same thickness causes the tube to require a firm push to go onto the outlet nipple of the press. Some users will find that it goes on easily enough, but if you'd like to make it slip on more easily, you can do that by holding the end of the tube under hot water for a moment before connecting it.

Petrol-Gel Food Grade Grease, 4 oz.

Petrol-Gel is the purest of lubricants, made with an odorless, tasteless, high viscosity index paraffinic base oil. Compounded with food grade additives, its high cling factor keeps it on the surfaces where it's needed to reduce friction and guard against wear and corrosion. Petrol-Gel is approved by USDA as a lubricant for use where there is incidental contact with food.

Petrol-Gel is ideal for forcing screws on fruit presses and sausage stuffers, metal and synthetic gears, axles, valves, pistons, O-rings, guides, slide mechanisms, and many other applications in home, commercial and industrial environments.

If you're purchasing Petrol-Gel for a full-size fruit press, we recommend starting with two (2) four-ounce tubes (one tube for a tabletop press) and be sure to lube the pressing-plate socket as well as all surfaces of the forcing-screw threads.

Although Petrol-Gel is nominally referred to as "white grease" (and is even labeled as white on the tube) it is actually clear.

Love it
By Jim J. in AB on 4/12/2016 Verified Buyer

Works great for what we use it for (apple juice and hard cider) once we freeze then thaw the apples. The juices just flows out.

Difficult to crank
By David K. in MD on 10/04/2017 Verified Buyer

It is built sturdy but is difficult to hold while turning press. I should have purchased a heavier bigger model with more stability and easier turning ability.

Moderator : Actually, by using the provided socket plate (also referred to in the description as an anti-rotation plate), the press doesn't need to be held at all by the operator. The socket plate can be screwed to a table, countertop or bench, then the press is set into the plate with the feet of the press in the sockets of the plate. Many users screw the socket plate to a small piece of plywood or OSB. Then the board can be held to a table, countertop or bench with a couple of small c-clamps. This method doesn’t require making holes in any furniture and lets you easily use the press in any location you wish. With the press secured this way, turning is easy. Thanks for your review David.

One concern
By SRV in WI on 4/12/2016 Verified Buyer

I found that the threading on the crank shaved as we were using it and actually wound up with some metal shavings in our pulp.

Moderator : You definitely need to use food grade white grease on the threads. It will virtually eliminate friction, binding and wear.

Apple Cider for his Birthday!
By Elizabeth R. in IA on 12/13/2016 Verified Buyer

I bought this press to give to my husband as a birthday present in July. Seven long months from now. He only has a few apple trees but has wanted to make cider for several years and has never gotten around to buying a press. When I came across this press while shopping for a Christmas gift I decided to order it now and save it until then. I made my decision based on the reviews I read and I am counting on them to be honest because all the reviews I read were great. It seems to be perfect for what he wants to do and in reading the reviews I was surprised to find a recipe for almond milk. I can hardly wait to "borrow" his press and try it myself.

Updating my review from December 2016. I gave my husband his birthday present in July but of course he had to wait for his apples to ripen. He finally got to use his apple press yesterday and had a lot of fun doing it. He loves the taste of fresh apple juice and hopes to make a lot more this season.. He would love to have a motorized press and might still buy one. He finds this one a little hard to use It's a little hard to turn the crank when it gets about half way through the process. He isn't a young as he used to be. He is 77.

Solved a real headache for our cafe
By S.M. in IL on 4/03/2016 Verified Buyer

Sturdy and just the right size to get enough water squeezed out of the veggies for our deep fried veggie fritters. Before the press arrived, the staff was trying to do the same job by twisting the fresh grated veggies in a towel--which took 2 people a half hour and left in far too much liquid. To keep it from twisting as the screw mechanism turns, I did have to make a plywood base that can be clamped to a table or fitted inside the top edge of one of our sinks. The only concern I have is that the plastic sleeve that covers the outside seems like it may not last very long. Nevertheless, a great product at a reasonable price.

Moderator : We'll be glad to supply a replacement poly sleeve if you do wear yours out. We've never had anyone say they did, yet. The press can be mounted permanently, but many people find it handiest, as you did, to screw the anti-rotation plate to a piece of plywood which can then be clamped to your particular surface. Since plywood is available everywhere and customers' size needs vary with their countertop and table situation, the plywood (for those who want to use it) is user-supplied. Thanks for your business, and your review!

Would purchase again
By Tarek M. in CA on 4/13/2016 Verified Buyer

because I was unable to find a competitor for this unit. The stainless portions are high quality. It would be a better device if the whole thing were stainless. Also, the center screw could be higher quality. Under load it binds too much. I feel as though I am fighting the threads more than the material I am trying to squeeze. If there were stainless disks available to layer in with the fruit, I would buy them, even at $15/ea. As it is, I need to use only the bottom few inches because I am squeezing a dense fruit pulp. I have not tried soft fruits like apples. For me, 3 stars is a fine rating. 5 stars would really be exceptional, reserved for very few tools.

Moderator : Tarek: As with any screw press, the threads definitely must be greased occasionally. Without grease you'll certainly experience high friction, possible binding, and premature wear. When greased, the press turns easily, doesn't bind, and lasts a long time. A light, uniform coat of grease is as important to the screw threads as oil is to a car engine.

Works well
By David D. in UT on 11/19/2016 Verified Buyer

If you are juicing a small amount of fruit this works well. We used it for apples. The bolt at the base leaked. I may just need to be tightened but it wasn't enough to be a big deal.
