LS1 Slicer Shredder for Universal

The LS1 Large Slicer Shredder: This great new accessory fits directly onto the mixing bowl of the Bosch Universal mixer, providing a huge 6.5 quart batch capacity. It works with the current production Bosch Universal Plus mixer as well as older models, fitting any Bosch Universal bowl that has a center column, including the stainless steel ER2 bowl. The LS1 comes with two drive pieces, one for each Bosch Universal mixer model.

The LS1 Slicer/Shredder processes foods as you feed them down its chute. It includes three disks: Shredding/Grating (reversible for coarse & fine), Slicing (reversible for thick & thin), and Fine Grating. A splash ring comes with the LS1 that fits onto the mixer's main 6.5 quart mixing bowl. The Slicer/Shredder is a one-pass machine (no bottom blade), so it maintains uniform product size no matter how long you run it.

Great for big jobs.

This thing is the best for putting up lots of produce such as relishes or for making a big batch of potato dough for dumplings. Making shreds out of a block of cheese or slicing veggies? No problem, and it is done in a flash. And one of the best things about this accessory is it doesn't have to sit on the counter using up space. It sits in a little box in a cabinet until needed and goes right back when done. The ring fits very tight to my bowl, and requires a little persuasion to seat, which is good if you don't want the ring coming off in use and breaking on the floor. (The stock splash rings are available for purchase as replacement parts for a reason). I haven't broken the driveshaft part that is supposed to act as a kind of "fuse" to protect the motor, so I don't know what kind of force is required to snap it, but 2 extras are included with the kit, so its not a problem if you break one when you still have a couple bushels of squash to shred. If you have any big jobs involving shredding or grating or slicing, you won't regret having this in your canning kitchen.

Not as sturdy as I'd like

On the plus side, I am pleased that it fits the older version of the Bosch Universal Mixer, and it allows for larger portions of food processed without having another machine in the kitchen. On the negative side it is tricky to get the attachment seated correctly and, even then, it will periodically pop off in the middle of the job, which is quite messy and more than a little unnerving.

Works great but, it is very hard to get it on and off the bowl.

Moderator : The LS1 is made to fit snugly into the Universal's bowl. We checked stock here, and it fits just right into new bowls, but to put it into a bowl that's been in use for a few years we needed to put one side in, then run our fingers around the sides, meeting at the opposite side, which did get it in. It wasn't really difficult that way, once you learn the "technique". We've now asked L'Chef that they consider relaxing the fit just a little, so it will always just "drop in". Thanks for your review, Mary!!

I make a lot of pizzas and Asian cooking which requires a lot of chopping, shredding and slicing. I had a Cuisinart food processor and it worked well, but this is an amazing slicer! It's sharp, quality and easy to clean. I slice, shred, chop right into the mixing bowl which helps with the mess, less clean up. Love Love Love it!!!
