Gaskets should be replaced periodically, as they will harden over time and stop working — which will cause seal loss, and your cooker won't work. It's easiest to order a with your cooker, so you'll have a backup. (They can also be nicked or damaged by a stove burner, etc.) Tip: When not in use, gaskets can be removed from cooker lid to maintain proper shape for longest life.
Can you use a Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker for canning? The answer is here!
With any pressure cooker, be sure to add sufficient water. Complete evaporation will spoil your food
and damage the cooker. If you want, you can keep food suspended above the water by using a trivet.

I have a B/R/K that I thought was the best PC made until I purchased the 12 qt KR from Pleasant Hill Grain. There is no comparison. I've never cooked with such a quality item in my life. Everything I've made since receiving the cooker has come out perfect.
I anguished over the size and am glad I went with the 12 qt. It comes up to pressure unbelievably fast. I don't dare leave the room while waiting as it will come up to pressure almost immediately, even with a mere 1 cup of water in it. The cooker is unbelievably fast.
I highly recommend this 12 qt cooker, it's worth every penny. Be sure to purchase it from Pleasant Hill Grain. Their customer service is the best I've ever experienced!
Simple design, easy to clean, safe to use, and with a large capacity for copious leafy greens such as Kale. Essential for a family and practical for couples who entertain and have dinner guests.
I've had the smaller Duramatic pressure cooker for a while and love it for small meals, but I needed the larger one for making bone broths. This fits large bones perfectly! I use it over a natural gas burner outside (to keep the heat out of my house). It is an extremely well-made and sturdy pot. I've cooked racks of ribs, and seen beans cooked in it. My friend canned in hers with no trouble whatsoever. It's got to be my favorite pot. I highly recommend it.
I'm delighted with my new, one-pot-does-all pressure cooker from Kuhn Rikon, fulfilled by the awesome folks at Pleasant Hill! My hubby and I live in a van, moving constantly, and we eat a fairly restrictive Autoimmune Paleo diet - meaning that we cook a LOT but have very little space. We can't leave a slow cooker on all day or use a bunch of fuel making our meals, and this pressure cooker is making life much more efficient by enabling us to cook roasts, bone broth, whole chickens, fruits, and veggies in rapid time. It also doubles as our everyday stock pot for soups, heating water, whatever! It is a beauty - heavy and durable and easy to use. The pot is admittedly heavy, and just barely fits in our tiny van cabinets, but we make it work because it's such an essential piece of equipment. I'm only starting to uncover its functionality. This week I found fresh, ripe apples at a farm in the SE and bought a huge batch to make lacto-fermented apple butter for long storage through the winter months... it was a breeze with my new Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker!! I'm in love.
I have been using Kuhn Rikon since 1969. This is my third one and the other two are still in good shape and have had no problem, aside
from having to change the rubber gasket once or twice. The reason for my purchase of a 12 liter Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker was that I needed
a larger one, as I started canning. I love it, just as much and my other two. Bravo Kuhn Rikon!
Technology has improved in cooking equipment as everywhere else. My eighty year old pressure cooker blew up last month. We weren't in the kitchen. When I bought this one and read the times selected, I scoffed. But I followed them anyway. Wow! And again I say, WOW!
This wonderful Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker joins its smaller sister (5.5 qt) in my kitchen. I was whipping up a batch of organic chicken bone broth just hours after it arrived. Then, a great meal of pork and beans in no time at all. It's relatively light weight (much lighter than my All-American Pressure Canner/Cooker - used exclusively for canning), easy to use, easy to clean, and joy to look at. This pressure cooker will be the work horse of my kitchen.
I bought this pressure cooker because I needed the larger size for big batches of broth, soups, and stews. But, I am already dreaming about cheese cakes and other desserts that I can cook in this pressure cooker, due its size. I love my smaller Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker, but it's a bit too small for a spring form pan needed for cheese cakes.
I'm a happy, satisfied customer.
My son and daughter-in-law, both busy professionals, have been raving about how easy and delicious their meals are when cooked in their pressure cooker. After listening to their experiences I decided to give it a try. I did my research and discovered that the Kuhn Rikon was the top of the line and that Pleasant Hills had the best pricing.
The pressure cooker arrived quickly and well-packaged. On my day off, I made beef stew that was so wonderful that I decided to try a new dish on Sunday. Who would think that the best ever chicken curry took only 20 minutes to cook?
I bought the 12 quart size so I could make extra meals to vacuum seal and freeze. I'm having fun experimenting and my husband loves the results!
Amazing.
Great cooker, I love it! It's excellent quality and big enough for stocks and broths.
