Description

Hippo No. 69 Hammer Mill with Air Conveyor

Please Note: Prices of many products are under unprecedented inflationary pressures now, and resupply continues to be very difficult with many delays. Factories are having trouble getting critical parts due to ongoing Covid-related supply chain disruptions, and overseas shipping costs passed “insane” weeks ago. In early 2021, we could ship a 40' container from overseas in for $5800. Currently it's $17,400 to $27,000. If gas had gone up as much, it would now cost over $200 to fill up a Honda Pilot. And the last change in container shipping rates was upward again. Our resupply lead-time for some goods has increased by 12 months. There are many other factors as well, and the bottom line is that retail goods prices will be going up, and availability will be going down. Soaring general inflation means your dollars are worth less daily, making needed goods more valuable than cash. PHG has Hippo hammer mills in stock now at old pricing (which we publish!), while our competitors build-to-order with months-long lead times and far higher prices (many more than double ours) that reflect steeply increased costs of steel and other commodities.

Hippo hammer mills rapidly pulverize a wide range of materials from grain, beans, herbs and fibrous roots to minerals, plastics, glass, bone and recyclables. Materials enter the milling chamber and are impacted by hammers rotating at high speed. Size reduction occurs until particles can exit through the holes of a perforated screen covering the discharge. Interchangeable screens offer hole sizes ranging from 0.6mm to 25mm.

In addition to particle size reduction some materials (glass bottles and lobster shells, for example) experience a high degree of bulk reduction, creating storage and transport efficiencies.

Milling chambers are constructed of high strength cast iron plates with bolted construction that eliminates common stress points to prevent cracking. After extended use, this method of construction allows fast, easy, on-site replacement of worn parts. Built for the demands of commercial and industrial grinding, Hippo mills are fast, efficient and durable, and their low cost won't break your material processing budget.

In use across the U.S. and around the world, South-African made Hippo mills are available with horsepower ratings of 5 to 100 hp. The Hippo #69 hammer mill with a VFD is equipped with a 60 hp, 208/230/460VAC, 60hz, 3-phase inverter duty rated motor. The VFD is not pre-wired to the motor and can be programmed to reduce the rotor shaft rpm. Slowing the speed of the rotor shaft can increase the likelihood of getting a coarser grind in hemp and other products, while still utilizing the material handling fan to move product from the mill to the material collecting cyclone.

Hippo hammer mills feature rigid hammers with reversible, replaceable tips of long wearing, impact and abrasion-resistant Bennox steel. The screen is located in the bottom half of the grinding chamber, covering an arc of about 180°. Milled material is transported from the discharge of the mill by an impeller fan mounted on the drive shaft, and delivered to the cyclone and dust separator. Suction created by the material handling fan aids transport of the product through screen holes.

Stock interchangeable screens are available with hole sizes of 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.6, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, 20 and 25mm. The top half of the milling chamber swings open for full access to the hammers and screen, and screens can be changed out in just 30 seconds without tools.

  • “PHG does customer service the right way, with quick response and great follow through on any little question or order issue.”

    – David W., NV

Hippo mills are manufactured to high precision standards, with non-cast components cut by laser or plasma for excellent fit. High quality bearings are used, and lubricated with quality synthetic lubricant.

A high strength magnet is fitted to the feeding hopper, isolating harmful ferrous metal items before entering the mill and damaging the screen.

All Hippo mills are tested before shipping and are covered by a 1 year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

Free test grinding: Pleasant Hill Grain has extensive milling experience and can make recommendations for a wide range of grinding needs. We can also test mill samples of your materials; please call 866-467-6123 or email to make arrangements.

The price above is for the Hippo #69 hammer mill, 460V/3PH/60HP motor with starter or VFD, material handling fan (air conveyor), collecting cyclone and dust bag system.

Because of the range of setup options available, orders for Hippo mills are taken by phone. Please call for a crating and shipping quote.

*Output rate is based on dry corn for reference, and will vary substantially for other materials based on factors including density and frangibility.
**Rotor RPM is infinitely variable with optional VFD (variable frequency drive) for fine-tuning of speed and particle size.
***Most product will exit even finer than the size of the holes in the screen.
