Slices neatly and accurately; chops effectively and in seconds. Easy to clean. Expands your culinary options. (I'm discovering the joys of shredded carrot in my dinner salad.) The plastic does get stained by certain veggies. Mine is now carrot-orange. I don't mind. Plus, the manufacturer says you can wipe it with a few drops of vegetable oil to remove those stains. All around, I say this is a winner. Oh, and PHG can order extra blades for you. (The model they sell has two, not the full five.)
My Bamix is a compact indispensable mixer and slicer that has replaced my large bulky food processor. I found it's the only system that has a special attachment for whisking sauces and other mixtures at the touch of a button. The quality of food slicing, mixing, shredding, and immersion stirring, even in boiling sauces and soups, produces professional chef/restaurant quality food. I estimate that using Bamix cuts down my food preparation time by one-third to one-half. The design of the mixer, SliceSy, and their attachments permits extremely fast and easy cleaning; and they store in a small compact space.
Only used once so far to slice and grate a bunch of vegetables. First impression is that it is easy to use, slices quickly, and is easy to clean up because everything, except the top lid, can be put in the dish washer. Intake chute is a bit small, about the diameter of a quarter.
I've been on the fence to go "all out" for a food processor with the bells and whistles. Its another motor, more software that's going to eventually die. Tired of throwing things away and watching them wind up in the ocean. This is a great compromise to that dilemma. Its smaller in profile than a full size food processor, and utilizes the emulsion mixer I happened to already own.
In terms of performance, I've only used the dual blade chopping attachment so far, and it chopped with ease. Can chop onions within... 10 seconds, and the way this attachment is assembled- cleanup is easy. Easier than other food processing units I have worked with in my past. A Few things I wish I knew beforehand:
1. The top portion of the slicely (All black/gray plastic) is recommended to not be submerged in water. You need to wipe this down. Plan your prep accordingly.
2. The size of this food processor is smaller than a full size one. I don't mind, as chopping things like a large onion is within its capability. If you're feeding a small army- this might be a dealbreaker.
3. The chute is also smaller than others- you're not going to fit a fat cucumber in here without splitting the fruit lengthwise (especially with today's genetically modified freaks).
Ultimately, with the reliability of Bamix, the small and easy profile of the processor, the good very much outweighs the bad, and I feel like I'll be able to keep this around for years to come.
This is the size that is appropriate for meals for two people. The shredder gets bogged down in cheddar cheese, which when smeared causes the rotation of the cutter wheel to slow. It does carrots OK, but really shines with softer veg like zucchini, peppers, or onions.
Received my Bamix SliceSy from FedX yesterday, washed the washable parts (do not immerse the very top portion) and used it right away. I LOVE it for sure. I'm reading lots of reviews and product descriptions that say you need at least a 180 watt Bamix. NO!!!! My older Bamix is a 150watt and Pleasant Hill Grain told me it would work fine with the SliceSy. It works fantastic! Descriptions also say don't let the motor go for more than 3 minutes at a time, and you don't need to. The veggies I've put through mine with each of the 5 blades that comes with the SliceSy takes a matter of seconds and come out perfect. The cucumbers I put through it sliced evenly and within a couple seconds, as did the carrots. I made a mistake and used a grater blade when I put the red, yellow, and orange sweet peppers through and they turned almost to a liquid. My mistake. I then put the rest of the colored peppers through with the slicer blade and they came out perfect. This SliceSy will get a lot of use for daily salads, and I plan to use it for so many things that I'll try in the next few weeks; You Tube has a lot of good ideas and recipes. I love that it takes up very little counter space. It sits right next to my Bamix where I can grab it in an instant. I'm sure my son will want one for his Bamix when he uses mine.
Another well made and useful product from Pleasant Hill Grain.
Indispensable Bamix accessory for slicing, shredding and chopping food easily and quickly. If you purchased a Bamix immersion blender, you'll appreciate the added value SlyceSy provides, enabling you to use it as a food processor. Check out the instructional videos on YouTube to see how it works. I'm really enjoying my Bamix blender and SlyceSy!
