Maximizer® Apple Grinder
When you need to turn apples to pulp, our exclusive Maximizer® apple grinder is the tool for the job. When pressing apples for apple cider, you'll get about three times more juice by pulping them first, compared to pressing them whole.
The Maximizer apple grinder uses strong stainless steel teeth set into a large stainless steel rotor. As apples are ground, the load on the grinder's teeth changes rapidly. The Maximizer's large twenty pound flywheel is an important feature, providing rotating mass that maintains speed and makes an otherwise jerky and difficult effort smoother and easier.
Some people like to grind into a bucket and dump into their cider press, mounting on a sawhorse or similar support. Others prefer to mount the grinder higher so the pulped apples drop directly into the pressing basket. Mounting slots are provided for either back or bottom mounting, and fruit pulp exits through the bottom discharge.
The Maximizer turns your apples into the right texture to get the most juice from your harvest. It can also be used with pears and other large, pit-free fruit. Like all Maximizer® products, this fruit grinder is built tank-heavy with a ductile iron body and 3/4” stainless axle rod for years and years of steady, reliable service. It's an heirloom-quality machine that can be expected to serve you, your children, and their children.
The Maximizer arrives assembled except for attachment of the flywheel and handle, which takes one to two minutes. The rotor can be reversed for turning from the opposite side.
An optional stainless steel hopper is available for the Maximizer grinder.

Does a good job for the backyard cider maker! The mounting holes could be a little larger for a more secure mounting on the table and allowing it to be put toward a table edge so that the crushed apples can just fall into a bucket or container from the table!
High quality grinder. Large and heavy wheel make the grinding process very easy. Highly recommend.
The weight of the cranking wheel helps out greatly when you encounter a concentrated bunch of apples that hit the teeth all at once. Your hand/arm doesn't slow down or stop like the ones without this flywheel feature. I think that I will get the hopper extension which will make it easier to not drop as many apples when filling the grinder.
We used to have an old motorized grinder that was unpredictable and downright dangerous, especially around kids. This grinder is heavy duty, and works just as fast and effectively, but is much safer and quieter. It makes the whole cider-pressing experience much nicer.
Do yourself a favor and get the hopper extension with the hopper unit. The grinder works very well. Well balanced very durable. Grinds s a whole load of apples in a matter of minutes. Easy to clean. I wish I had bought a larger press as the grinder can easily keep up.
We've used this for three apple seasons now and it is still going strong. We live in the country with a lot of wild apple trees around so there are plenty to harvest. We've pressed twice each of the last three falls plus lent it out to friends. I don't know exactly how much they have processed but we average around 15-20 gallons each time we press. So this grinder is definitely earning its keep. It requires a bit of muscle but that just makes the cider all the more enjoyable knowing you did more than turn on a motor. We're very pleased with this grinder and the Maximizer Cider Press we purchased with it.
This crusher works well to mash apples and other fruit. It must be bolted to a table or bench to lock it down and establish the centrifugal effect necessary for easy crushing. The hopper is minimal, only holding five or six apples, but there is an accessory hopper kit that is a must have if you plan on mashing large amounts. Using it I could mash a five gallon bucket of apples in less than ten minutes and then feed them into the press. Having one person turn the crank and another feed the fruit in works best as the hardest part is to turn the crank on a loaded start.
I bought an apple press & Maximizer grinder from Pleasant Hill last fall (2015). Both worked excellent! I got some really good cider and apple jelly. I did not have to add any pectin to the fresh cider, I just cooked it down with a skosh of cinnamon and viola apple jelly with no additives or preservatives. I definitely trust this company and will do business with them again. Thank you Pleasant Hill.
I tried a food processor the season before... very tedious and the pulp was too fine. This grinder makes the job much easier. I appreciate the weighted flywheel. Even with the wheel the grinder will bog down if fed too heavily. Overall a good product for the money.
The construction of this grinder is top notch, and the weight of the flywheel makes the grinding easy - the centrifugal force keeps the grinding speed consistent without a lot of effort.
