Clearance: KoMo PK 1 Mill
This is an R2 clearance item. Please check the table below to see how we rate our clearance items.
Note: The product images on this page are of a new item, with the exception of any images marked “Clearance item”.
With its unique hexagonal cabinet, the Austrian-made KoMo PK 1 is the perfect centerpiece of a healthy diet and lifestyle. The internal workings of the PK 1 are identical to the Classic mill, with large 3.35 inch diameter, self sharpening corundum-ceramic burrs and high efficiency 360 watt motor. Its exterior is beautifully crafted entirely of solid beechwood.
All KoMo mills are equipped with specially developed electric motors that are highly reliable and efficient, yet extremely quiet. The PK 1's 360 watt motor enables it to produce 8-9 ounces per minute for bread flour texture. Its solid beech hopper holds 2 lb., 4 oz. of grain.
The PK 1 will grind a wide array of grains including soft or hard wheat, oat groats (dehulled oats), rice, triticale, kamut, spelt, buckwheat, barley, rye, millet, teff, quinoa, amaranth, sorghum and dent (field) corn. It will also grind lentils, dry beans (pinto, red, garbanzo/chickpeas, kidney & more), and dried, non-oily spices. It isn't suitable for herbs, oilseeds like flax or sesame, popcorn, or fibrous materials.
Dent (field) corn and soybeans can be ground to any texture from cracked to meal to very fine flour. For these very large-kerneled grains, grind first with the stones opened widely to produce cracked grain, then a second time if you want flour. The KoMo PK 1 will grind oats to a wonderfully soft, fine textured flour, but open the stones about five clicks (or so) wider than you would for a hard grain like wheat, otherwise the soft oat flour will fill the stones' furrows and in-feeding will stop. Opening the stones further will give you a cereal grind for porridge, or coarser yet for cracked oats, similar to steel-cut.
The grind of the PK 1 Mill is continuously adjustable from fine super flour to coarse meal and cracked grain, just by turning the hopper bowl. As with all KoMo grinders, cleanup is minimal and easy. Access to the milling chamber takes just a moment and requires no tools.
If you prepare food for someone with a food allergy, see KoMo's optional interchangeable insert system. This ingenious solution lets you grind different types of grain in the same mill while keeping food types completely separate.
Choose from 110V or 230V models: The PK 1 is available in the standard 110V version for use on U.S. power, or a 230V version for use overseas. Mills with 230V power are equipped with a Euro plug. For more details about the PK 1 grinder, please see the specs tab, above.

WHOLE GRAIN NUTRITION: HARVEST THE BENEFITS!
Imagine that for years, your children ate mainly candy. Imagine that you did, too. Imagine an entire nation on a candy diet. Imagine the health consequences.
Natural whole grains contain a myriad of health-essential nutrients, from proteins to vitamins and amino
acids. But "white flour" consists only of the starchy endosperm of the wheat kernel. In its natural form
the endosperm provides wholesome energy, but it's the least nutrient-rich part of the grain. Removed
are the nutrient-packed bran, wheat germ, and wheat germ oil. Then to make it extra white, industrial
processors go further, chemically bleaching it, and returning just enough of a few vitamins to stave
off beriberi and rickets. They're allowed to call the end product "Enriched Flour" but a truthful label
would read "Impoverished Flour." This snow white, denutritionalized substance is a commodity worth billions
of dollars annually to its merchandisers because of a commercially useful trait: Unlimited shelf life.
No matter how long it sits in the mass distribution channel, it can't go bad precisely because there's
actually nothing left in it that can go bad. Nutritionally, it's bad when bagged. A few companies have
grown enormously rich marketing this pseudo-food on the basis of convenience, ease, and its dazzling
white appearance. But a blind eye was turned to the consequences of replacing real whole grain flour
with something that looks special, yet is virtually devoid of nutrition. In essence, candy. So widely
has this nutritional travesty become accepted that we call it—and think of it as—wheat flour. But to
depart further from natural grain flour would scarcely be possible. Then to make matters worse, artificial
sweeteners, flavors and colors, appetite stimulants and preservatives are added to many of our foods.
"Artificial" tells you those things aren't naturally food. But have you ever wondered
what they actually
are
,
then
? Did you know some of them are actually petroleum derivatives? And what unintended side effects might
those complex counterfeit compounds have on us?
The human body is an absolute marvel; scientists have a long way to go to understand a tenth of how we work. But as capable and as resilient as our bodies are, common sense and history teach that we need wholesome, nutritious food to remain healthy and strong. The denatured byproducts being mass marketed today don't provide what we need, because they've been profoundly altered by processes in which real nutrition is considered last, or not at all.
There's a great solution to this problem. By grinding grains in your kitchen and using the whole grain
flour while it's fresh, you get the nutrition needed for strength and health. You also get far tastier
food, with genuine character—incomparably more satisfying than today's mass marketed pretenders. After
transitioning to whole grains, putting out a plate of white styro-bread will elicit comments like "Why
are you giving us
this
... and where's the
good stuff
?". Even flour labeled as "whole grain" in stores falls far short of what you can easily grind yourself,
because unless it's ground while you wait, the essential Vitamin E in true whole grain flour would go
rancid in days (meaning that it's probably been removed), and all nutrients begin steadily oxidizing-away
from exposure to oxygen as soon as grain is milled. What's in those bags is
not
whole grain flour if it's been sitting on a shelf for even a few days; that's literally impossible.
Making real food is more than doable, it's downright fun with help from Pleasant Hill Grain! A grain mill is the place to start. And to make whole grain bread quickly, easily and with consistently wonderful results, nothing beats a quality stand mixer that's capable of mixing and kneading bread that's ready to pop in the oven—quickly and without hand kneading. These machines make it easy to turn the corner to a far better and more enjoyable way of eating!

We needed to mill a large quantity of rice for brewing some specialty Asian farmer's wine, unlike probably most buyers who buy this to mill for baking and etc. I bought the PK1 because I'd read that it had the same mechanical insides as the famous "Classic" model, but had a much more attractively-constructed case than any other comparable mill out there, including the other Komos. I reasoned if we're going to spend $500 on a grain mill, it'd better actually look like people's romantic vision of the traditional tool. In real life, it's even prettier than advertised on the page! It also grinds flawlessly, including rice that had been pre-soaked (and left to dry on the outside, but still pretty wet on the inside. Technically, that's not recommended by the manufacturer, but other forums had said we could get away with it and that it wouldn't hurt the millstones or the mechanical components. To clean the residue that inevitably stuck to the stones, we just milled completely dry rice and it cleaned them up without any issue. Compared to using a blender (tedious, loud, hot, ineffective) or a Kitchenaid attachment (this will strip and gall the gears in your attachment as well as your stand mixer if you mill the wrong things), PK1 is worlds apart.
The PK1 is pretty, functional, and seems well-made. It grinds fast enough that I don't think twice about using it. The wood looks and feels wonderful. The flour is distinctly better than store bought. Easy to keep clean, too.
This is a wonderful grain mill—quick and quiet. The ceramic stones have a superb range between fine and coarse. The flour doesn’t get too warm. The case looks beautiful on the countertop! I only wish I had purchased it years ago.
Wow Wow Wow what a machine! Grinds everything from pastry flour to cracked bulgur. Bought a 144# screen to sift most of the bran out and you have wonderful pastry flour. Built to last. Thanks for another great product KoMo.
I've been very happy with my purchase of KoMo Pk1. It looks good on the counter and I love showing it off. As good as both of those are, using it to mill the grain is even better. I love the bread that I've been able to make with it.
After reading grinder instruction a couple times to ensure proper use, we did our first grind. I wanted to not only do a fine bread flour for my favor bread recipes, I have always wanted to add a heavier grind to try a 10 grain bread. We went wild with adding different grains since I did buy a few different ones (10) before I ever thought of buying this product. It took so, so long to do with a coffee grinder that I only made a 7 or 10 grain bread for special meals or special occasions. Now I can make any of my recipes, at any time. The crafting I can't explain. Except that it is glorious. It fits so well in my home since 80% of my home has oak cabinets, breadbox, trim, doors and everything in my formal dinning room is oak.
My best comment has to be the kindness and willingness to guide me in the process that this grinder was truly what I wanted and offering that any time I needed help, please do call. That was the final selling point. Not to just try and sell a product, you believe in the product as well as your grains and the accessories in your line. A product that is worth its weight in gold and a fantastic family heirloom to hand down to our grand-daughters.
Pleased to now own the machine.
This mill does exactly what's asked of it and looks fantastic sitting on my kitchen counter, next to the Ankarsrum mixer I also bought from PHG. With those two workhorses I can turn out almost any baked goods I want, and all suited to our dietary tastes and needs. The mill is relatively quiet and the adjustments easy to do. You can mill fine grain or an infinite variety of coarser grains, and all with ease. I used to have another kind of grain mill, and while it was sort of okay, this mill far surpasses it in every way. If you're going to buy a grain mill, buy the best and buy it only once. This is it and it will last my lifetime, then be passed on to my daughter and probably last the rest of her lifetime. This is THE BEST!!
Wow! A friend suggested I get a KoMo mill if I was serious about making bread. I decided to shop around and see exactly what was out there and read reviews. The PK1 had all great reviews so I decided on that mill, plus, I liked the design/look of this particular model. What a beautiful mill this is! I was very excited to receive it. It works like a dream! And I really like the fact that I can have FRESH flour for whatever I'm baking right when I need it. Beautiful fine flour to coarse corn meal like grains. I'm glad I took my friend's advice and purchased this mill. Due to the COVID-19 virus, I had to wait a while to get it, but I'm glad I did, it is worth the wait!
The people at Pleasant Hill were so gracious in answering, first the phone, then my questions. It's so hard to get to talk to a live person these days, but they are so helpful and their customer service is to be rewarded!
This is my first experience grinding my own flour. First let me say the mill is a beautiful thing! It is so elegant and the wood and the shape is so elegant. The mechanics are really easy. Filling the hopper is simple and then you just pick the setting by turning the top and turn it on. It grinds what you need in no time at all. I also bought KoMo's large pine bowl to catch the flour as it grinds and it is the perfect shape and size for the job.
Pleasant Hill is a fantastic company. Great service and great products.
