Convenient & safe storage
Our Pinto Beans come in six-gallon buckets (or pails... another word for the same container) containing 40 lbs. net weight. When you store Pinto Beans at home, they need to be protected in a couple of ways. First, they need to be protected from a variety of little critters who'd like to get to them before you do. Weevils and rodents, for example. You also need to protect your Pinto Beans from picking up excessive additional moisture, which can be drawn from the atmosphere. The buckets our Pinto Beans come in provide full protection against these storage risks. They have airtight gasket-sealed lids, Mylar liners, and oxygen absorber packets that remove the oxygen from the air in the bucket after we put the lid on. The O2 absorbers leave an atmosphere of nitrogen in the bucket, because air consists almost entirely of oxygen and nitrogen. (The oxygen absorber packets themselves are completely food-safe, being made of powdered iron and salt, which are kept separate from the product itself.) Our buckets safely lock out pests, and biological processes are put "on hold" in the Mylar protected, oxygen-free nitrogen atmosphere, so your spelt berries enjoy complete peace and quiet until you want to use them.
Super-cleaned
All of our Pinto Beans are triple-cleaned to ensure purity and protect your grain mill from any foreign objects. (Pinto Beans that aren't sufficiently cleaned may contain small stones that will damage or destroy a grain mill... not to mention that you don't want such things in your food!)
Shelf Life
Our organic pinto beans have a shelf life of 10+ years when unopened and stored in a cool, dark, dry environment.
Non-GMO All of Pleasant Hill Grain's whole food products are natural (non-GMO). Also, PHG does not sell any grains, beans, lentils, pulses or seeds sourced from China.

Exceptional Value of Bulk Grain
It's well known that basic natural foods tend to be lower in cost and much higher in nutrition than processed commercial choices, but we were still a little shocked when we compared the cost of a staple like whole grain wheat, to items on the shelves at a local grocery store. - Your order may consist of a single product, or any combination of these grain, beans, rice, etc.
- Total quantity must be a multiple of 12. So you can order 36 or 48 or 60 buckets, but not 37 or 55, for example.
- You must have a quantity of at least 36 buckets, in a total quantity divisible by 12, in your cart for the discount to apply.
- This offer applies to grain, beans, lentils, rice, or oilseeds (such as flax) that are packaged in buckets.

- The order can be delivered in one of two ways:
1.) It can be delivered to a business address with a forklift or dock and which is NOT also a residence.

Don't be afraid of the plastic construction of this handy lid removal tool. We've used them for years here at PHG. They work great and we've never had one break.
Overall length of the tool is 8.25".
Note: Some bucket lids have several points around their lower lip that must be snipped with a cutting tool prior to removal. No matter what sort of tool you use to pry the lid off, if you're working with that sort of lid then it is indeed necessary to snip the lid at those points, first. Such "snip points" vary in appearance and may or may not be marked with words like "Cut Here" or with a scissors symbol. Another type of lid has a circumferential "tear strip" around its bottom edge. With such lids you may not need a lid removal wrench to use after pulling the tear-strip away, but one can be helpful to those with hand weakness due to arthritis or other reasons.

Learning to keep a stock on hand has been difficult for me but the Super Pails make it easy. This is the main reason I continue to buy rice and beans and such from PHG. Sure, I could find it elsewhere at a discount but what good is that if moths or mice destroy them before they are used. Excellent quality, and the Country Beans book is a wonderful asset in showing different ways to cook beans and especially using bean flour. If you have a mill this is a wonderful component of your library.
When our order arrived we were thrilled to find that they cook easier than what we are used to! We bought organic pinto beans. They smelled fresher than other beans, so we cooked them right away! Wonderful! We will order these again! Thank you for a thoughtfully prepared product. And when cooked, the beans are delicious!
I was pleased with the freshness and how quickly they cooked. I had almost given up on dry beans from big box store with blue logo because they were never fresh and had to cooked forever. Even what I thought was good (fresh) didn’t have a heartbeat in comparison.
Just recently needed to open the Pleasant Hill bucket of pinto beans (had about 15 pounds on hand when I ordered)... and am very pleased with the quality of the organic beans... You do need to sort to cull out the small stones/gravel that can turn up in field packed dried beans (but that should be a regular practice regardless of supplier)... the quality of the beans is superb... and the value for the price is phenomenal... easily just 1/6th to 1/5th the delivered cost of my previous three suppliers.
This is the second 40 lb. bucket of pinto beans I’ve ordered from Pleasant Hill Grain. Also ordered their black beans on my first order. These were the cleanest most tasteful beans I have ever purchased. Will never buy beans from anyone else. ♥️♥️♥️
I have not gotten a chance to taste the beans as of yet but I must say the shipping was fast, the pails are much bigger than I expected And it’s organic! Great way to stock up and save on food. Can't wait to order them again.
