Nesco FD-80 Dehydrator
The FD-80 comes with 4 trays, each 1.36 sq. foot, expandable to 8 trays for nearly 11 square feet of food drying area. The FD-80's combination of a strong, quiet fan and 700 watt heater lets you dry food gently in hours instead of days. Temperature is adjustable between 95° and 155° F. Air pressure adjusts automatically to number of trays used. Measures 14.5" x 14.5" x 9.6" high (with four trays.) The FD-80 comes in a new "Marbled Gray" finish (white with gray flecks.)

Great for making fruit rolls for the kids and for other messy foods. Exclusive "no spill" lip allows you to dry liquids and semi-liquids. Dry up to 3 cups of pureed fruit on each sheet. Make fruit leather with no added sugar or preservatives. It's as easy as pouring applesauce on the Fruit Roll Sheet. Also great to dry soups and sauces.
Outside diameter is 13.75 inches and the diameter of the inside hole is 2.87 inches. Fits FD-1000 series Nesco/American Harvest and Open Country dehydrators with trays that have an outside diameter of 15.5 inches including the FD-1010 and FD-1018A. These round sheets can also be used in the square FD-80 series dehydrators.
When drying any sweet fruit, either on standard trays or fruit leather trays, release will be improved by drying your food thoroughly, then letting it cool fully to room temperature before removing from the tray or sheet. For particularly sweet fruits such as berries, strawberries or apples (as well as anything you add sugar to), further cooling in the fridge can also be a big help.

Made from nonwoven fiberglass cloth that has been coated with PTFE, this fabric offers a very low coefficient of friction, high heat resistance, hydrophobic properties, and excellent dielectric properties. It is also chemically inert. Teflon sheets are extremely durable.

I purchased this Nesco back in 2012 to replace a similar Nesco that was round. I can't estimate the total number of cycles of dehydration that I've done with it. It lives in my utility room where the squared sides save space. The trays, the nonstick accessories have been through my dishwasher countless times. It's never skipped a beat and I'm so glad I didn't spend more money for no reason. People don't seem to realize that these are indeed built here in the U.S. if that's important to some. This is the third Nesco I've owned over 30+ years, and both the others still work perfectly, also. Highly recommended.
Use the dehydrator to make chicken jerky treats for my dog CoCo, she is a border collie. USA produced treats are very expensive, about $18 a pound. I don't trust foreign made dog food or treats. I can make about 3.5 pounds for about $12. I make four trays in about sx hours, the Nesco FD 80 does a great job, have used it eight times, the money saved has paid for unit.
It's a little slower than I like (30 hours+ to do a bunch of grapes), but it does a fantastic job of it.
For years food was a necessary evil.. and heavy. Now, I enjoy the anticipation.
The FD-80 has done the job for me. Canned chicken, Corned beef, Ham lunch meat, Shrimp and white fish plus a variety of fruits and vegetables make super light and tasty meals. Better than the commercial options in every way (cost, flavor and nutrition). Include a couple of mesh sheets right away.
We received the unit........read the book....... prepared some beef strips/marinated..........into the unit and presto, it was done and it is good. Now I have snacks for golfing and fishing, so how much better can it get.
Machine worked better than previous buys. So pleased with purchase. An outstanding feature is how quiet it is! Pleasant Hill Grain did a knockout job on delivery. Ordered on a Friday....had item in my possession following Monday! Very very few companies do such an outstanding job as PHG. this was on a REGULAR shipping... no 2-3 day delivery. Very few companies do outstanding work like Pleasant Hill. Would order from these people in a heartbeat....no hesitation.
My dad enjoys making his own chili, pizza, and breads. He tends his own garden including herbs, spices, and tomatoes and want him to enjoy them past harvest. This dehydrator is perfect for them. We tried making a 5lb London Broil jerky for the first time yesterday, and it turned out great! He can add something new to his homemade collection! Does the basics well without any frills or electronics. Limited ability to control temperature via analog dial requires frequent attention and adjustment to get things right depending on the thickness and moisture content of what you're dehydrating. I've used this to make my own dried fruit, fruit leather, dried tomatoes, dried herbs, etc, and it has generally performed well given how affordable it is. I haven't used it with meat or jerky yet, so I can't speak to how well it handles those materials. I've used it for 3.5 years now without any issues or maintenance required. The individual trays are delicate, and would likely crack if not handled carefully, but I haven't had any breakage and it's convenient they can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
