KoMo FlocMan Oat/Grain Electric Flaker
Handmade in Austria, KoMo's FlocMan Grain Flaker has all the qualities needed for a solid, long-term relationship. It's peacefully quiet, easy to maintain, and perfectly reliable—to say nothing of its good looks!
The FlocMan delivers 3.5 ounces of deliciously fresh grain flakes per minute, and flake thickness is adjustable from .3mm to .65mm. It's suitable for all types of grain except corn, as well as crushing oil seeds such as poppy, and spices.
Flaking couldn't be easier with the FlocMan. The crushing unit, with its tapered stainless steel rollers, is mounted in a gracefully sculpted housing of solid beechwood. Disassembly for brushing off the rollers takes less than ten seconds and requires no tools. Included with the flaker is a lovely handmade ceramic bowl.
Oats are a naturally soft grain and more of our customers roll oats than any other grain in their FlocMan flaker—but many other grains including wheat, rye, barley and millet can be flaked too, with a little preparation. These grains are hard and brittle, and would normally shatter rather than crush. To soften them, hold them under running water briefly in a strainer. Then spread the grains on a cloth or towel to let them dry over night or for 3-4 hours. This time will vary depending on the grain used, but a little experimentation will help optimize the process. The softened grain will crush and flatten, rather than shatter. At the same time this contact with water starts an enzymatic process which makes it easier for you to assimilate the minerals in the grain.
Pleasant Hill Grain carries a wide range of oat groats.

“The flaked oats are incredible. They taste completely different from commercially produced flaked oats. My only regret is that I didn't purchase the FlocMan sooner. I also must mention that Pleasant Hill Grain is one of the best companies with whom I have done business.”

By Bonnie C. in TX on 4/20/2016 - Verified BuyerI purchased the electric flaker because it allows for adjustments to the thickness of the flakes produced. I have only used it for oat groats so far, but it can be used to flake other grains and seeds. The flaked oats are incredible. They taste completely different from commercially produced flaked oats. Fresh flakes retain natural oils so they have a very satisfying nutty taste that enables them to be eaten raw. No overnight soaking required for these fresh gems. Fresh raw flakes also have so many more nutrients than commercially produced flakes which lose nutrients to processing (steaming) and oxidation that begins immediately upon flaking. I plan to try some mixed grain porridge or oatmeal, but haven't done so yet because I can't stop eating the muesli that I have been making daily since I purchased my flaker. My only regret is that I didn't purchase it sooner. I also must mention that Pleasant Hill Grain is one of the best companies with whom I have done business. I purchased my flaker late on a Thursday afternoon and it was on my doorstep Saturday morning. Now that is customer service!24 out of 24 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Marcus S. in VA on 4/15/2016 - Verified BuyerI ordered the KoMo FlocMan electric flaker mill from Pleasant Hill Grain in 2012, and use it generally six days a week. I use it to flake Einkorn wheat for breakfast after its been softened by running water over it in a strainer, laying on a linen towel, folding towel over Einkorn wheat overnight. I also use it to flake oats occasionally. I've had one issue with it so far, think I was flaking Einkorn wheat at the time, and the plastic fitting on the main shaft stripped, so Pleasant Hill Grain sent me a replacement part plus some spares at no charge. There may have been a small stone in the grain that causes it to strip, I don't know, but I have had no issues since. So far I like this great tool.20 out of 20 people found this review helpful. By Riverside on 2/23/2017 - Verified BuyerAs one who spent his working career leading projects for mechanically engineered consumer products, I can say without hesitation you will be impressed with the build quality, performance and aesthetics of the KoMo FlocMan. It does exactly what it claims to do, in a way that is quiet and quick. The solid and heavy motor and mechanics are hidden away by an elegantly simple exterior design that looks completely natural on your countertop thanks to a sculpted beechwood housing. The flaking mechanism slides out of its track without any tools when cleaning is required while flake thickness is adjustable at the turn of a knob. A solidly crafted product that should give many years of pleasure to the most demanding owners.7 out of 7 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Carolyn G. in TX on 3/27/2017 - Verified BuyerWe had a manual flanker and just gave up on fresh flaked oatmeal. This electric flanker is a dream. In less than a minute I have my oats to make my protein bars and oatmeal cookies. We really love it. Thanks for the tip to put a tea bag in the opening to keep out bugs when not in use.6 out of 6 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Kfamily in CA on 2/14/2017 - Verified BuyerWe happily received our FlocMan yesterday and while I typically like to wait a few months time to write a detailed review, we simply can't describe how much of a difference this has made in our daily routine already! Best of all, we hoped for an attractive flaker that was going to last us a lifetime and it is very important for the grain flaker we purchased to be electric, extremely easy and convenient to use to encourage us to nourish our bodies every single day. Now, there are no more excuses! : ) There's been times where a kitchen item we bought ended up being so much of a fuss to use, set up and clean that we ended up not using it and consequently not making meals we intended to make. The FlocMan is truly heirloom quality and the inside only needs to be cleaned (wiped off with a cloth or water, as instructed in the manual) if you choose to flake oily seeds and such. This a beautifully made machine, the perfect companion for our KoMo grain mill that we enjoy just as much. For us, it was a very wise investment and are continually impressed with each breathtaking product made from KoMo and the exceptional service Pleasant Hill Grain alike. My husband loves eating fresh muesli now and he says he likely won't skip breakfast anymore because freshly flaked oat groats are so fast and simple to make now. That goes for me, too. I'm looking forward to expanding and taking my culinary skills and adventures to new heights with the right tools. Thanks ever so much for everything, PHG! : )5 out of 5 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Bob C. in PA on 12/31/2017 - Verified BuyerAs shipped the flaker is set to make *very* thin flakes. It does this without any fuss or bother. It also is very adjustable so you can make the thicker flakes that I prefer. Cleanup is easier than any of the other machines (manual flaker or the mills). The flaking head pulls out very easily and shakes out.4 out of 4 people found this review helpful. Did you?

By Patricia S. in NC on 1/30/2019 - Verified BuyerI wasn't raised to eat oatmeal for breakfast and never acquired a taste for it until we purchased the KoMo Flic Floc a few years ago and discovered what great oatmeal is supposed to taste like. We decided to upgrade the ease of breakfast making with the KoMo FlocMan this winter. How could it be better? Are the flakes "flakier"? I don't know but it is - same grains of oatmeal, same cooking method, but now the creamiest, sweetest, bowl of goodness possible! We love our new FlocMan and I now love oatmeal.3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. Did you?
