I purchased 3.5 gallon buckets with gamma lids to store beans, rice, flour and dog food purchased from Costco. I went with 3.5 gallon instead of 5 or 6 gallon buckets so that they are easier to move. They are light enough that my wife can move them easily. They stack nicely in a corner of the kitchen and allow us to save money buying food in bulk. The buckets are also 90 mil -- when shopping for buckets, I kept running into similarly priced products that were only 70 mil. I'm very happy with this purchase and I will definitely be coming back to Pleasant Hill Grain for future food grade bucket purchases.
For the past 15 years I have been using some 2.5 gallon buckets that have integrated screw tops. They have been great but have recently begun to split (just an age thing I'm sure). I wanted to try a slightly larger bucket but not as large as a five gallon which is now too heavy for me if it is full. The gamma seal screw top lids that I have used on 5 gallon buckets have worked well and I was glad to see that they work on these 3.5 gallon buckets just as well. These buckets are strong, true to shape and there are no sharp edges or protruding pieces of plastic to cut or snag you. The wire lift is strong and moves well. I did order some Snappy Grip replacement grips as I know I'll need them eventually and will have them ready. This was my first order from Pleasant Hill and I'm very pleased with the quality of the items, the ease in ordering, the great packing of the order and the timely delivery. I would not hesitate to order again.
Great sturdy buckets, ordered them with the Gamma lids. I use them to store flour and are perfect for 25# bags. Easy ordering and quick delivery. Thank you.
These are wonderful buckets for grain storage. I ordered the Gamma Seal lids which are easy for a mid 70 year old to open. I would order more if I need them. Shipping was fast. I am very satisfied.
The 3.5 gallon is a very good size. It's certainly heavy when full of grain but not too heavy. I was going to get the 5 gallon and then I thought "what if I need to move this around when I'm sick or injured? ". Go with the 3.5 so more people can lift it.
Two 3.5 gallon buckets with gamma seal lids easily held one 30 lb. Fromms dog food bag. They store in a smaller footprint too!
I bought the 3.5 gallon size and purchased Gamma lids in a variety of colors - am storing hard red (25lbs)in one, hard white (25lbs) in another and a variety of smaller bags (oats, rye, soft white etc) in a third. Waiting for a 4th gamma lid (blue is back-ordered) and then will have option to use 4th bin as my rotating newest order bin or as a storage bin for whatever grain I find I want to start ordering in 25 lb amounts, perhaps soft white or rye. Thanks Pleasant Hill!
These are really good buckets. They fit 23 pounds of. flour (outside the bag it comes in. So, clean out with a disinfectant wipe, put a really large bag in the bucket and pour in the 2 ten pound bags that Costco sells.
I have just about all the bucket sizes and use them to store flour, beans, nuts, oatmeal and grains. In fact I also use one of them to store opened packages of things that mice and bugs would like. They are the best and I recommend them to everyone I know. Thay allow you to buy in bulk and not worry about things going stale.
These are incredibly useful for storing all sort of food items. I use one to store my various sugars (baking, eating, decorating) and I am finally secure that I will not find small insects in them. We always wanted to buy some things in bulk but I worried we could not keep them fresh and unsullied. Now I buy in bulk all the time and the savings is marvelous. I adore these containers.
