Ankarsrum Flaker Mill
The Ankarsrum Flaker Mill is great for making fresh oatmeal from oat groats (groats are oats that have had the hulls removed). Homemade oatmeal made with this process has thicker, chewier flakes than the store-purchased sort and, being fresh, is much more delicious. Harder grains (most wheat, for example) tend to shatter in the roller, which is useful for some purposes.

The flaker is the best. Fresh rolled oats are super. This is just like grinding your own flour. Fresh is better
Excellent flaker for whole oats. It arrived on time and was well packaged.
It connects to the Ankershrum (Swedish made since 1940) also called the Assistant. It can mix many batches of bread dough at once and has attachments for other functions as well. (It is gentle on your dough.) I have another manual flaker but wanted this flaker for big quick batches of healthy rolled oats for guests. I love this machine as it has a powerful engine and is well made.
It was a little tricky initially to match the flaker onto the machine but once I learned it was easy. The flaker has a little arm that inserts into the motor and there is a tiny bump on both that need to match up. I marked the outside of the flaker with a black line. Then you need to match up the opening of the flaker insert over the little rod on the machine. You can turn on the machine a little to move the rod so the they match up. It fits snugly and if it is not lined up properly then it won't grind your oats. A tad of a learning curve but works beautifully. Run on MEDIUM speed.
We buy 50 lbs. of oats and keep in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. We layer the rolled oats in Ball Jars or larger glass brownie pans for larger versions of this delicious recipe and leave in the fridge for days: Layer yogurt (we like vanilla) and drizzle with honey. Next add a layer of ground walnuts and almonds (we keep in Mylar in the fridge and grind all and mix together) and chia and flax seeds. Then add a layer of fresh rolled oats and sprinkle with lots cinnamon and some brown sugar and more nut mixture. And another layer of yogurt and oats if you wish. Spread the yogurt with a bread knife if you have a big surface. Some layer in the Ball jars. Cover with fruit. We keep ripe bananas frozen and run under hot water then peel and nuke for 15 seconds. Delicious and healthy!
This has been one of those kitchen gadget accessories that has changed our lives. We eat SO many oats. My husband eats them every single day. They are so, SO good (tasting and nutritious) way better than ANY store bought. So easy to make. Just add a little water to the groats and work with your hands until they are not bone dry but not soggy. They flake like a dream without smashing apart. High quality product- I have rolled continuously for 2.5 hrs and the flaker nor machine struggled at all. You won’t regret this. Makes owning the mixer even more worthwhile- if that is even possible. Very happy customers. My mom owns one now as does my sister in law. Buy it! You won’t be disappointed.
Wow, I am over the moon about the results from the flaker attachment to the Ank! Super easy to use and excellent results. The texture for both oatmeal and oatmeal cookies is excellent and the fresh organic groats produced a sweet fresh taste superior to organic store bought oatmeal. I am looking forward to making wheat flakes from soft wheat berries, for use in/on bread. Be sure to refrigerate your oat groats due to their significant oil content which makes them go rancid quickly.
I was so excited to receive my flaker attachment! I've used it to roll oats for oatmeal and homemade granola and Love it! Order process with Pleasant Hill was seamless!
I love my Ankarsrum mixer and I am so glad to add this oat flaker to its function. I have a large family and oats are a healthy staple. Whole oat groats are half the price of bulk flaked oats, and about 1/4 the price of grocery store oats. This machine will pay for itself in my family in less than a year! Of course, fresh oats are much better. We make oatmeal, granola, and granola bars for quick, easy breakfasts and snacks.
The Ankarsrum flaker is easy to use and easy to store as it is compact. It does not heat up the oats while flaking, which is nice, so it is not turbo speed but a lot of oats are flaked in a few minutes.
I wanted to love this flaker. I have wanted to flake my own groats for ages and was so excited to get this flaker. However, it's just okay. It takes forever to flake just a cup of groats because it does not feed down the chute efficiently. I have five oatmeal-loving children and so getting enough oats flaked for breakfast takes obnoxiously long and I have started buying rolled oats again because it is so much more convenient, even if they are not as nutritious.
I am a big fan of oatmeal. Eating freshly milled rolled oats takes it to a new level.
I bought the flaker because my husband eats overnight oats for breakfast nearly every morning and I am an obsessed sourdough bread baker, so I like to include all kinds of grains into my loaves. So, the flaker serves our basic daily breakfast needs and allows me to experiment with spelt, wheat, rye... all kinds of add-ins for my breads. Far more delicious and nutritious than buying pre-made flakes, certainly more economical -- not to mention more fun! The flaker is super simple to set up and entirely intuitive. It's perfect.
It is an awesome product. I had another one (another brand) and it broke, so I saw this one and decided to try it. I love the speed that it flakes, superior to my other one.
