Bega Canned Cheese
Dairying began in Australia's Bega Valley in the 1850's, with each farmer selling the produce from his own dairy. In an effort to improve their individual production and marketing activities, local farmers banded together to establish the Bega Cooperative Creamery Company on July 15, 1899. More than fifty years ago, the good people at Bega Cheese found a way to put great tasting, real cheddar cheese in a can. As a result, the Bega brand is known today throughout the world. Their product has a natural yellow color, medium cheddar flavor, and pleasing texture. It’s easy to cut, grate and slice. This is real cheddar cheese like you would expect to find in the deli case at your local grocery store, and it’s delicious!
Packaging
Each can contains 7.05 ounces of cheese (200 grams), and the cans are similar in size to a typical 6 oz. can of tuna. You can remove both ends of a can and just push out the 3-3/8" x 1-1/2" mini-cheese-wheel. It doesn’t sag, quiver or run because it’s solid cheese.
Available in a single 7.05 oz. can, a case of (12) 7.05 oz. cans or a case of (36) 7.05 oz. cans.

Uses
Bega canned cheese can be cut, grated or sliced into thin slices for sandwiches, pizzas, lasagna or meat loaf. It behaves just like any other deli-bought cheese–it’s great in sandwiches, omelets, or straight.
Bega's quality cheese is very popular with our customers, who use it for everyday eating as well as camping, boating (sailboaters love it), and as a long-term storable food to have on hand in case of emergency. Give Bega cheese a try. As they say down under: It's bonzer*.
Shelf Life
There's no expiration date on this cheese. It's packaged in Australia for folks who don't have refrigeration, like many in the Australian Outback and other remote parts of the world. It's also great for those with backwoods cabins, sailboats, etc., because it stays good for an incredibly long time. Gourmet cheeses are aged in cellars for years to enhance their flavor; since this canned cheddar cheese is sealed in a sterile environment, there's no reason it can't be stored and used indefinitely. Just keep it reasonably cool, protect it from freezing as with any other cheese, and safeguard the cans from outside moisture that could cause external rust-through.

I asked six people to sample a can of Bega Cheese. In general all thought it tasted really good and they'd definitely recommend Bega brand cheese to family and friends. The test group consisted of a mechanical engineer, a banker, an RN, two teenage boys, and a retiree. Each taster got one small wedge. Comments noted: Removing the cheese from the can was easy, and it came out intact. There are no oily or watery fluids present. It's somewhat soft and doesn't crumble. The taste test group commented it was not too salty or sharp, but not too plain either, similar to American cheese or string cheese. Bega brand cheese is really a multi-use cheese. It can be consumed right from the can, sliced onto crackers or sandwiches, melted atop, or into, a dish. Bega cheese would be easy to bake with. The label indicates that Bega brand cheese is a good source of fat and protein. The Bega can is a very durable metal package, indicating a long shelf-life. The can is small enough to pocket. It could actually be a 'barterable', and should seriously be considered for any food reserve. Again, Bega brand canned cheese is a definite winner! Additionally, I thought the great personal service and rapid delivery from Pleasant Hill Grain remarkable. Thanks.
I don't ever write reviews but this cheese is delicious! My wife and I have a substantial emergency and survival food supply and added a case of this cheese and a case of the butter to augment things and provide variety. Temptation and curiosity got the best of us after purchasing a case of pilot bread crackers to try some. I'll blame the wife for this breach of supplies. We looked like kids munching down on forbidden fruit. Now I'll have to get 2 locks to keep the trust issues at bay. Great!!
I recently ordered a case of the Bega cheese to keep as a preparedness item for a little variety. You just never know when the next Iowa blizzard will be. I've ordered a couple of cans in the past which were to sample the cheese & we did so while camping with the nephews & nieces... nice firm texture (like Gouda), taste like mild cheddar, & keeps for a very long time. Highly recommend putting it in your rotation, along with some pilot crackers or MRE snack bread.
Years ago I was stationed in the deserts of Saudi Arabia working with their soldiers. We often shared our rations. As there was no refrigeration and no ice our fare was pretty basic. However, a great treat, enjoyed by all was pita bread and canned cheese. After leaving Arabia I searched everywhere I was stationed or visited for canned cheese. No joy! Then Kismet intervened and there it was Bega canned cheese. I ordered a case, purchased many rounds of pita bread and have been reliving the joy days of the desert. I find that the cheese is even better with beer. I will be a loyal customer as I fill the food box for camping and hunting trips.
Easy to store. One can is enough for sandwiches for four.
I am responsible to cook for mission teams in Ethiopia of approx. 25 -30 people. We work in far countrysides where we must carry in ALL of our food for 2 weeks. What a great option to add to my menus... have a treat with crackers.
Being that this was my first purchase from Pleasant Hill I was extremely pleased with their service and speed of delivery. The products (butter and cheese) are thus far not used as they're for emergency purposes. However, the temptation to try them will probably win out. They just look so inviting. Well packaged and long dated. Despite the inclement weather they had I was impressed with the speed of response I had to a question. I'm sure I will be purchasing more as I augment my "survival " cache.
Many products like this have a so-so taste. We just bought two cans in case we did not like it. Boy were we surprised. This stuff is actually good! Shelf life is a priority for us and this product fits the bill. Can't wait to make homemade Mac & cheese.
Well-packaged for shipping, delivered promptly. No dented cans at all. Cheese is quite flavorful, used it with crackers and also in sandwiches. Hopefully will maintain for some years unless the balloon goes UP...
We decided to try your canned cheese. We're impressed with the product and will be buying again. Great on crackers and cheese sandwiches.
