“I was hesitant to trade in my Kitchen Aid for this smaller guy. But I moved to a small space and needed to. Wow, what a surprise! I actually like my Bosch compact even more than my KA. Very easy to lift and maneuver. It has no problem doing all the tasks needed.”

The Bosch compact mixer was purchased several months ago to replace my 20 year old Krupps, which burned out when I had to knead a bread dough for 10 minutes. I decided not to buy a Kitchen Aid because of the weight, size and complaints about the quality of recent (since 2009) models. The Bosch is compact, easy to store and use, and is ideal for my purposes---kneading a 4-5 cup (about 800-1000 gram) sourdough bread such as a ciabatta or Persian sangak. A double batch also worked, but the mixer had to be watched (it walked a bit and the plastic cover periodically came off). I ordered from Pleasant Hill rather than Amazon because of the superior customer service and have not been disappointed.12 out of 12 people found this review helpful. Did you?
I bought this mixer to supplement a Electrolux DLX (now Ankarsrum). It is a great machine but over-sized for my needs most of the time. I wanted something that worked well for small jobs, was easy to use, clean, and put away.
So far the Compact has been a good choice. I have used it for cake batters, icing, yeast dough, quick breads, cookies, and whipping cream. It works so well for meatloaf I have quit mixing meatloaf by hand. Using the batter whisk for the "wet" ingredients, and mixing in the ground meat (3 lbs.) with the dough hook results in a nice, not to tight loaf.
I haven't tried "double" batches, but the bowl size alone suggests it may not be the best choice for large batch mixing.
A few issues: 1. I don't like plastic in the dishwasher, so I bought the metal bowl. I like it, but it has a plastic base. 2. Many recipes call for a "paddle" attachment. Bosch does not offer this attachment for the Compact. The batter whisk is not recommend for "heavy" cookie dough. Switching to the dough hook when the ingredients become "heavy" seems to work, but it's an extra step. 3. My biggest concern is it is noisy and the motor and gear whine make me wonder how long it will last. After 30+ years of heavy use my mother's Bosch Universal is still going; strong and quiet. The Compact just doesn't have the same quality look, feel, or sound.
Pleasant Hill provides excellent customer service, and a wide range of mixers. My advice: call them for their advice.9 out of 9 people found this review helpful. Did you?
I have the larger version and love it but have packed it up to send back to Australia where we will be returning. I couldn't stand not being able to make bread until then so we bought this smaller mixer. I love it! Just right for what I need to do in the meantime.8 out of 8 people found this review helpful. I had a Bosch hand mixer which was making funny sounds so I decided to replace it with a new one and found out it was no longer available, so after much research, got this Bosch. It makes 3 great loaves of bread and has made my process much easier eliminating most of my hand kneading. Wish I had this one long ago!7 out of 7 people found this review helpful. Did you?
I have the standard Bosch mixer, so it was only natural that when looking for a smaller version, I would again choose Bosch. Buying it from Pleasant Hill Grain was another no-brainer, as their customer service is superior in every way. I love the little mixer for those "for two" cakes that I've begun to make. It's helped us continue to enjoy great baked goods without a lot of waste in the larger bowls. Had a KitchenAid... very disappointed in the newer appliances they're making. Love, love, LOVE my Bosch!7 out of 7 people found this review helpful. Did you?
One of the things I like is that it has one motor base for several functions because this saves time and space in my cupboards. It is of sturdy construction and does its job well. I used the food processor, meat grinder, blender, ice cream maker and a salad maker, all with good results.7 out of 7 people found this review helpful. Did you?
I've owned a compact for 35 years. I've made a lot of bread, ground a lot of meat, shredded hundreds of lbs. of cheese, sliced bushels of vegetables. I've replaced my mixer once and had to replace a few pieces on all the attachments, but it's easy to do that thru this website. My two daughters started out with KitchenAids, but have both sold theirs and gotten a Bosch Compact.5 out of 5 people found this review helpful. Did you?
Love the size of this mixer. Plus, it can do most everything the Bosch Universal can do. I have always loved my Bosch and wanted another one to take in our RV. This is just the perfect size to take. Easy to clean and with the attachments it is the perfect kitchen appliance. Love it!!3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. Did you?
I bought one of these for my daughter, who liked it very much. So I got one for myself to replace a handheld mixer. I really like the mixer but wish it had an additional speed. It only has 4 speeds and while the very low speed is a plus for wetting mixes, it would be nice to have a true medium speed. I also wish it had a second, smaller bowl for mixing smaller batches. Still it worked great for mixing breads. Because of the way it is designed with the bowl stationary and the beaters rotating around the bowl, it is awkward to scrape the mixes from the sides for a better blending. Still, it's a very versatile appliance and serves the purpose for which I purchased it. If you don't have room for the iconic Kitchen Aid mixer, this is a space saving, decent substitute. It is quality built.3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. Did you?
Bought for my wife. She had always used KitchenAid mixer, but was not always satisfied with bread results. After getting and using this Bosch, the KitchenAid never leaves its' storage place; she uses this mixer for virtually everything - bread, cakes, cookies. In fact, I had to buy another one for her to use at the cottage. And yet another as a gift for my daughter.3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. Did you?
