Description

Stainless Steel Frieling French Press, Brushed or Mirror Finish

A French press coffee maker is constructed of a narrow cylindrical container and comes with a tight-fitting plunger with lid. The plunger has a fine wire or mesh filter on the end. The simplicity of this design has attracted many to begin making their own gourmet coffee at home. We're happy to offer you this simplicity with Frieling's durable stainless steel presses that are not only perfect for use in the home, but are also commercial grade—allowing them to perform equally well in restaurants and hotel lobbies!

These French presses (also called press pots) are virtually unbreakable, thanks to their double wall 18/10 stainless steel construction. The double wall design also keeps coffee hot four times longer than glass. Contrary to glass, stainless steel eliminates the safety issue of glass breakage. You'll fall in love with these not only for their stunning looks, but also for their simplicity and long-lasting quality! Mirror finish or brushed finish outside with a brushed finish inside. All components are dishwasher safe.

To make French press coffee: For each 6-ounce cup of coffee you want, measure 1 tablespoon freshly and uniformly coarse ground coffee beans (like the size of kosher sea salt), and place the ground coffee beans into the bottom of your empty French press. Next, carefully pour filtered 195-205 degree water over your ground coffee, making sure to leave at least 1 inch of space below the rim. Give this brew a few quick stirs with a long spoon and then place the lid onto the coffee pot with the plunger pulled all the way up. Let the coffee brew for 3-5 minutes in small presses and 4-6 minutes in larger presses. Keep in mind, the longer you allow coffee to brew, the stronger it will taste and the finer your coffee was ground, the shorter amount of time it will need to brew. When you've finished the brew, hold the handle of the press firmly with one hand while you slowly and steadily push the plunger straight down with the palm of your other hand. Pressing slowly will keep your coffee less acidic. Continue to press down until the mesh screen on the end of the plunger reaches as far to the bottom of the pot as it can, this may take 20 seconds. Your coffee is now ready to serve!

French Press Capacities

Frieling's stated capacity
(fluid ounces)
Aprox. usable capacity
(fluid ounces)
Aprox. yield
(cups*)
17 15 2.5
23 20 3.3
36 32 5.3
44 40 6.6
*Cup = 6 fluid ounces. This is a standard measurement for a cup of coffee.

Note: We state a smaller capacity for the Frieling French Presses than the manufacturer because, when filling your press with ground coffee and water, it's wise to leave adequate space for the plunger and head room for bloom-foam which will rise once hot water hits the ground coffee. Frieling's stated capacity is how much liquid will fill the press up to the brim, without the plunger installed.

Cook's Illustrated recommends Frieling's insulated French press coffee makers calling them "sturdy" and "handsome". The coffee they made in these French presses was very smooth, balanced and had a decent thickness of flavor.
