The grinding mechanics is constructed of Swedish cast iron, which means your spices never come in contact with plastic and the spice mill will last for generations. Since the walnut lid is attached to the cast iron body with the aid of a super strong magnet, it is easy to detach the lid to fill with spices.
Skeppshult of Sweden manufactures artisanal cast iron cookware from strictly controlled raw materials in their factory in Småland. Made without harmful chemicals, their products have an exceptionally long life span, which explains how they can provide a 25 year cast iron warranty. Frontier Herbs Whole Peppercorns lend satisfying heat and bite to almost any dish (and they're great for salt-free diets). Pepper works well in combination with other herbs and spices, too, and is commonly found in spice blends. Grinding peppercorns just when you need them ensures the best, freshest flavor!
Pepper berries are at first green; they turn red as they ripen. The stage at which they're harvested, and whether or not they are husked, determines the color of the resulting spice. Black pepper is harvested while the berries are still green—before ripening. Sun drying turns them dark brown and wrinkly.
These pepper berries were grown in India and Vietnam.

Very nice, heavy duty product, has a luxurious feel. I was looking online for a pepper mill that has no plastic parts touching the pepper and I found it! It would make a good gift, it has that gourmet feel.

If you're like me, you love to have a top-quality item for something you use a lot. The pepper mill gets heavy use at my house so I wanted to get something both built-to-last and beautiful.
I have paired this with the little salt swing and they are now on their way to being two of the most used items on my kitchen counter. I am really happy with the grind that it gives. Note that it is not an adjustable grind. But so far it is giving me a nice "table grind" without being too overly fine. If you want extra coarse or cracked pepper I'd recommend a mortar and pestle or probably the "swing" pepper mill.

This is a really solid, well made product! One thing to be aware of is the weight (it is very heavy, and likely not good for someone with arthritis or wrist problems).

This grinder grinds peppercorns very finely. It feels very sturdy and lovely! The lid is a tad crooked so doesn't sit flush on the grinder portion always, but no big deal.
