NutriMill Plus

Note: NutriMill discontinued the NutriMill Plus mill, but if you're interested in a similar mill, they still offer the NutriMill Classic.

The NutriMill Plus grain mill boasts 11 new patented improvements. It’s 15% quieter than L'Equip's previous design, and has 20% more batch capacity—now a huge 24 cups!

The NutriMill Plus mill is uniquely designed to nest compactly inside its flour canister for a 30% smaller storage footprint than the NutriMill Classic. With its patented 4-stage filtration system and included flour bagger accessory, milling at home is clean and convenient.

With all these advancements, the NutriMill Plus retains all the key advantages of the very popular NutriMill Classic, starting with the ability to grind flour from fine to coarse, or anywhere between. The NutriMill Plus electric grain mill uses a high speed impact milling chamber (also referred to as a micronizer) to create flour from grains and beans, a modern and well-proven milling design.

Convenient, powerful & fast: Just pour grain in the hopper, turn the NutriMill on, and its powerful two speed, 1200 watt motor does the rest to quickly produce your choice of fine, medium or coarse flour. The grinding mechanism is self cleaning, and with a new four stage filtration system it operates exceptionally dust-free.

The versatile NutriMill Plus grinds wheat (both hard and soft), oat groats (dehulled oats), spelt, kamut, triticale, rice, dry beans, lentils, split peas, buckwheat, rye, barley, millet, quinoa, amaranth, teff, sorghum, dried mung beans and soybeans. It will also grind dried just-sprouted grain. The NutriMill Plus isn't suitable for spices, herbs, oilseeds such as flax, chopped chestnuts, flaked oats or fibrous materials, or dent (field) corn, or dried sweet corn. Grains and beans that have already been milled can't be milled again in any impact mill, including the NutriMill Plus. Also note that when set for coarser meal texture, the NutriMill Plus output remains too fine for making cereal grinds such as cream of wheat. The NutriMill Plus is an outstanding machine for making a full range of flour and meal textures.

The design of the NutriMill Plus impact chamber lets you to put grain into the hopper before you turn it on with no risk of plugging the mill, which can happen with older designs. Even if stopped during grinding, the NutriMill Plus restarts again without trouble. This is a crucial design feature for an impact mill.

Protects nutrients: The NutriMill Plus keeps your flour at temperatures (typically about 118°) that protect the nutrients in your grains. Its new airflow design makes the NutriMill the world's coolest-running impact mill.

The NutriMill Plus includes flour bagger that makes it easy to prepare flour ahead, and it's ideal for making a gift of flour to a friend. A ring holds the bag in place in the flour bin, and one bag holds all the flour from a full hopper of grain. Ten plastic storage bags are included with the grain mill.

Our customers love their NutriMills! Pleasant Hill Grain has been the world's largest retailer of the NutriMill line of grain mills for more than a decade. Our experience spans the milling spectrum from home-use to commercial. We're here as your resource before and after the sale, and we'd be delighted to visit with you about a NutriMill Plus or any aspect of your milling needs. We'd appreciate your business, and we look forward to serving you in any way we can!

The NutriMill Classic grain mill will continue to be available, in addition to the new Plus model. The Classic model is still an outstanding choice, and you can see the NutriMill Classic here.

Cinnamon Rolls Gift Bundle

Finding a unique gift can be challenging—especially for the person who seems like they have everything. But we've made it easy with our Cinnamon Rolls Gift Bundle. You can give the gift of fine kitchen tools, a tried-and-true recipe, and high-quality ingredients so they'll be able to make delicious, fresh cinnamon rolls at home. You can be sure they've never received that gift before!

Included in this bundle is our favorite Cinnamon Roll recipe, printed on a glossy recipe card. Store bought cinnamon rolls are easy, but they don't hold a candle to the deliciousness of these homemade, from scratch, whole grain cinnamon rolls. Using quality ingredients, such as our Grandma Eloise's Dough Enhancer, NutriMill Vital Wheat Gluten, SAF Red Label Yeast, and Redmond's RealSalt, these cinnamon rolls will be the favorite go-to breakfast, side dish with soup, or fall dessert.

Easy enough to make with kids, just mix up the dough, roll out on the counter and liberally spread on butter, brown sugar and cinnamon filling (and don't forget the raisins!). The OXO Good Grips Silicone Pastry Brush does the dirty work of spreading butter on the dough and the Norpro Divider/Scraper cleans up the counters and cuts slices from the long roll, keeping hands nice and clean!

When the rolls are made and the oven is ready, it's time to pull out the Doughmakers Round Cake Pan. Made of medium gauge aluminum with the Pebble Pattern™ textured surface that promotes even browning and easy release, the rolls will turn out caramelized on the outside and soft on the inside, just the way they should be. The CDN Pocket Thermometer ensures the rolls are fully baked-through before being pulled out of the oven.

Your search for the perfect gift is over. Order this gift bundle and make the baker in your life eager to whip them up! Who knows, you might even get to enjoy fresh, warm cinnamon rolls for snack on Christmas afternoon.

Gift wrapping not included.

Note: The dough enhancer in the photo is NutriMill brand, but it's been discontinued so we're including Grandma Eloise's brand dough enhancer in this bundle now.

Grain Milling Demo Set

A picture's still worth at least a thousand words. Want to show your family and friends just what they're being shorted by eating food made with so-called white flour? Here's the ideal tool to put things in perspective. The first of the six vials in this set contains whole wheat kernels, recognized throughout history as the "staff of life". At the opposite end is bleached white flour, as gleaming and nutritionless as industrial science can make it. And the same thing is done to other types of grain.

The four middle vials with the wood base showcase the nutritional riches that today's commercial millers sacrifice on the altar of unlimited shelf life: The bran, middlings, wheat germ, and wheat germ oil, where virtually all the goodness of the whole grain resides. None of that goodness remains in white flour—but you can have it all, by making your own fresh, better-tasting flour from whole grains with a fast, convenient, modern grain mill in your home kitchen. You'll wonder what you ever saw in "styro bread"!

Hard Red Wheat, Organic, SuperPail

Our hard red spring wheat berries are certified organic and ideal for bread making. Breads made with hard red and hard white wheats will be very similar; the main difference is that red wheat produces a fuller, heartier flavor, and the bread will have a slightly darker color. Red wheat kernels are reddish-brown in color. Our current lot of organic hard red wheat has a protein content of 13.2%.

Ideal for baking: Our grain is triple-cleaned. It's also been tested, in the most meaningful way possible—by baking bread with it. You can depend on hard red wheat from Pleasant Hill Grain to make bread and other baked goods that rise well, taste wonderful, and are packed with wholesome, natural nutrition! For those who may want to sprout some, our red wheat berries are sproutable. Sprouting results may vary.

In whole-grain foods, the plant's cellular walls protect nutrients from oxidation. The process of oxidation begins to occur as soon as grain is ground, exposing the cell's contents to oxygen in the air. Flour that is several days (or more) old, has been exposed to oxygen that inevitably diminishes its nutritional value. The way to get full nutrition from whole grain foods is to mill them when you need them, right in your kitchen. Modern high-speed grain mills make it fast and easy to enjoy the freshest, best tasting and most nutritious food imaginable!

Our hard red wheat is certified organic and non-GMO, and comes in six-gallon buckets (or pails... another name for the same container.) The net (contents) weight of the grain is 43 lbs. When you store grain at home, it needs to be protected in a couple of ways. First, it needs to be protected from a variety of little critters who'd like to get to it before you do. Weevils, for example. And isn't this interesting: Chances are you've never seen weevils in the white bread or crackers you bought from the store. That's because weevils put no stock in media campaigns from white-flour milling conglomerates; rather, they know what's good for them, and they'd come after your grain from miles around if you let them. And mice have good nutritional judgment, too. Not that there's ever been a mouse in your house, but if there was... you wouldn't want it having access to your grain. Secondly, grain needs to be kept dry. The grain we sell is all dried to a very low moisture level that's optimal for storage and baking and guarantees that you get the most grain for your money. You need to protect your grain from picking up excessive additional moisture, which can be drawn from the atmosphere. The buckets our grain comes in provide full protection against storage risks. They have airtight gasket-sealed lids, Mylar liners, and oxygen absorber packets that remove the oxygen from the air in the bucket after we put the lid on. The O2 absorbers leave an atmosphere of nitrogen in the bucket, because air consists almost entirely of oxygen and nitrogen. (The oxygen absorber packets themselves are completely food-safe, being made of powdered iron and salt, which are kept separate from the product itself.) Our buckets safely lock out pests, and biological processes are put "on hold" in the Mylar protected, oxygen-free nitrogen atmosphere, so your grain enjoys complete peace and quiet until you want to use it, even if that’s ten or twenty years from now. Note: If you don't already have a bucket lid removal tool, they make lid removal easy (see lower section of this Web page). Super Pail packaging is the "gold standard," the ultimate protection for your grain!

All of our grain is triple-cleaned (also called "triple washed") to ensure purity and protect your grain mill from any foreign objects. (Grain that isn't sufficiently cleaned may contain small stones that will damage or destroy a grain mill... not to mention that you don't want such things in your food!)

Our organic hard red wheat has a shelf life of 10+ years when unopened and stored in a cool, dark, dry environment.

All of Pleasant Hill Grain's whole grain products are natural (non-GMO). This applies equally to both the Organic and the Conventional (Non-Organic) grain.

Red wheat (triticum aestivum) is a gluten-containing grain that’s very similar to white wheat, but has a more robust, nutty flavor. To sweeten the slightly bitter taste of red wheat, honey may be used in a bread recipe. There are three different kinds of red wheat: hard red winter wheat, hard red spring wheat, and soft red winter wheat. The wheat for sale on this page is organic hard red spring wheat. Red wheat is so named because of the color of its bran, which has a reddish hue. Spring wheat is planted in the spring and harvested in late fall/early winter.

Red wheat is a hybrid grain, which means that older varieties of wheat with qualities such as disease resistance, weather tolerance, and high protein content, were crossed to produce a crop that has all the best qualities for bread baking and high yields. Red wheat was originally introduced to the Great Plains in the 1870s by immigrants from Russia. Today, the majority of wheat grown worldwide is hard red wheat.

Hard wheat has a higher protein content than soft wheat, and more protein translates to stronger gluten development in baked goods. This means that hard wheat is the best variety of wheat for making bread, pasta and pizza dough with. Soft wheat is ideal for cookies and pastries.

Hard red wheat can be ground into flour, flaked (rolled), or cooked and eaten as a side dish similar to rice. Red wheat is high in iron, protein, and fiber. It’s a versatile, delicious, and nutritious choice for everyday baking!

To cook hard red wheat, it’s best to soak the grain overnight. Soaking the grain will ease digestion, make the grain’s nutrients easier to absorb, and shorten the cooking time. To cook, add the whole or cracked, pre-soaked red wheat berries to boiling water (2.5 parts water to 1 part grain) for 45 minutes to an hour. The cooked wheat can be used to make grain salads, or to put into casseroles or soups.

If you’re transitioning from white bread to whole wheat bread, we recommend you begin baking with half white flour and half whole wheat flour, and increasing the percentage of whole wheat flour over time. This should make the adjustment easier, especially for children. If you’re unsure whether red or white wheat would be better, we suggest getting a sample of each to find out which you enjoy the flavor of better. Grain samples can be purchased here.

(The oxygen absorber packets themselves are completely food-safe, being made of powdered iron and salt, which are kept separate from the product itself.) Our buckets safely lock out pests, and biological processes are put "on hold" in the Mylar protected, oxygen-free nitrogen atmosphere, so your grain enjoys complete peace and quiet until you want to use it.

Our hard white wheat has a shelf life of 10+ years when unopened and stored in a cool, dark, dry environment.

All of Pleasant Hill Grain's whole grain products are natural (non-GMO). This applies equally to both the Organic and the Conventional (Non-Organic) grain. Also, PHG does not sell any grains, beans, lentils, pulses or seeds sourced from China.

White wheat (triticum aestivum) is a gluten-containing grain that’s very similar to red wheat, but has a sweeter, milder flavor and lighter color. There are two kinds of white wheat: hard white winter wheat, and soft white spring wheat. The wheat for sale on this page is hard white winter wheat.

White wheat is a hybrid grain, which means that older varieties of wheat with qualities such as disease resistance, weather tolerance, and high protein content, were crossed to produce a crop that has all the best qualities for bread baking and high yields.

Hard wheat has a higher protein content than soft wheat, and more protein translates to stronger gluten development in baked goods. This means that hard wheat is the best variety of wheat for making bread, pasta and pizza dough with. Soft wheat is ideal for cookies and pastries.

Hard winter wheat’s protein content typically ranges between 10-12%. Hard winter wheat grows predominately in the southwestern and mid-western prairie states whereas hard spring wheat will grow best in the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Montana.

Hard white wheat can be ground into flour, flaked (rolled), or cooked and eaten as a side dish similar to rice. White wheat is high in iron, protein, and fiber. It’s a versatile, delicious, and nutritious choice for everyday baking!

To cook hard white wheat, it’s best to soak the grain overnight. Soaking the grain will ease digestion, make the grain’s nutrients easier to absorb, and shorten the cooking time. To cook, add the whole or cracked, pre-soaked white wheat berries to boiling water (2.5 parts water to 1 part grain) for 45 minutes to an hour. The cooked wheat can be used to make grain salads, or to put into casseroles or soups.

If you’re transitioning from white bread to whole wheat bread, using white wheat is an ideal wheat to start with because of its mild flavor, and white color. We recommend you begin baking with half white flour and half whole wheat flour, and increasing the percentage of whole wheat flour over time. This should make the adjustment easier, especially for children. If you’re unsure whether red or white wheat would be better, we suggest getting a sample of each to find out which you enjoy the flavor of better. Grain samples can be purchased here.

Whole Grain Flour Power Book

Lounell Claybourn, with her daughter Marianne Claybourn, wrote “Whole Grain Flour Power: Sharing the secrets of baking with incredible flavorful, nutrient-packed, freshly milled flour". Their book is a comprehensive collection of customer favorites from over nine years of their successful farmers market business in Houston Texas.

Whole Grain Flour Power offers an in-depth look at the wonder of wheat and the decline in world health linked to commercially milled flour. This 311-page cookbook includes tools, tips, and techniques for new and experienced bakers, and over 90 easy to follow recipes. You'll find a wide variety of recipes including sweet, savory, and simple breads, desserts, and a fun collection of tortillas, crackers, energy bars and more, all made with freshly milled flour. Full color photos beautifully showcase the end results.

Whole Grain Flour Power reflects a passion for the unmatched flavor and nutrients found in freshly milled whole grain flour. That passion was the motivating force for Lounell and Marianne as they poured their hearts into everything they baked for their farmer's market stand. Customers became “regulars” and then became friends. They held baking classes for those who wanted to learn the skills of milling and baking for themselves and witnessed a growing consciousness of the importance of healthy eating choices for their families. This cookbook began at their request, and it's become their passion now to share it with all “bakers by heart!”

Cookbook features:

  • Focus on Freshly Milled Flour: Emphasis on the importance of using freshly milled whole grains, used within three hours of milling, to retain maximum nutrients and flavors.
  • Personable Directions: Enjoy the warm and inviting approach to baking, reflected by years of experience in running a successful farmers market baking business.
  • Wide Variety of Recipes: From the popular Cranberry Walnut Bread to the savory Caramelized Onion Bread, these recipes cater to both sweet and savory palettes.

EDITORIAL REVIEW by Peter Reinhart

"Whole Grain Flour Power, by the mother/daughter team of Lounell and Marianne Claybourn, is a book from the heart and one that will touch yours as well. It is dedicated to the principle that freshly milled whole grain flour is far more delicious and nutritious than commercially milled flour. The proof is in the pudding, as the saying goes, and their book is chock full of easy to make recipes and delicious-looking photos of the many products the Claybourn's have been selling successfully for years at local markets. Reading their story allows us to enter into a world that evokes wholesomeness and a yearning for both a nostalgic past as well as a hopeful future. It has been said that the future of bread can be found in its past, and the recipes and photos in this book transport our longings for that past into the present moment, evoking a renewed belief that, yes, this is what I want, what I've always wanted." — Peter Reinhart, author of The Bread Baker's Apprentice: Mastering the Art of Extraordinary Bread and Peter Reinhart's Whole Grain Breads

Excellent mill
By Scott W. in MN on 3/17/2016 Verified Buyer

After having a Nutrimill Classic for about 10 years, the Nutrimill Plus is much quieter. It jumps a bit when turning on. The speed at which the flour is made is much faster than the Classic.

Very good grain mill
By James P. in OH on 2/12/2016 Verified Buyer

I rate this grain mill 4 stars. This mill has many 5 star qualities to recommend it: space saving storage design; a 4-step filtration system to keep dust out of the air; separate container where milled grain ends up plus a way to easily bag it; and an easy to clean design.

From a performance point of view, I have to give the mill 3 stars because it really doesn't produce a finely milled flour even though it claims to have a 'pastry' setting. I had, for many years, used a Magic Mill (these are no longer made). This mill on the fine setting would produce a very fine flour, near the grade of an all purpose in fineness. A single pass through this NutriMill Plus isn't nearly as fine, even though it's called a 'pastry' flour mode (feel pastry flour from a store against this mill's finest setting, and you'll easily feel the difference). You have to mill the grain twice through this mill to get somewhat closer, but it still isn't pastry grade or close the fineness of my old mill. I end up having to sift the flour to get the fineness I want, so it's more work overall.

For bread making, the single pass milling is good, but if you need finer flour that is more like all purpose or pastry grade, it will take some work.

Averaging the 5 and 3 star qualities, I'd give this 4 stars overall.

Nutrimill Plus Grain Mill
By Barbara N. in ME on 1/29/2016 Verified Buyer

Much quieter than the vacuum cleaner, first use had a very minor dust leak at bin lid edge though none after that. Must be a breaking-in thing. It milled my wheat berries unbelieving fast and uniform. I tried all the settings. sifted and got different results of more or less branny stuff in sifter. Just saying that because even though it's a slight turn of the dial, the machine does the thinking. The Nutrimill Plus is fun to us and not messy at all. I'm totally new to milling my own grain and I'm absolutely hooked. The taste of a fresh baked loaf of bread... delicious! Eager to try more grains. Pleasant Hill Grain gave excellent service and free shipping.

New to fresh-milled flour, and I'm hooked!
By John W. in LA on 4/21/2016 Verified Buyer

Very pleasantly surprised at how truly simple and clean this whole process is. Been using the mill for a few months now. Ordered wheat berries, rye, spelt, barley, millet, etc. Everything mills cleanly and easily. No dust storms! As a bonus, the mill is compact and good-looking, so I don't mind leaving it out on my counter in a corner. Biggest and best surprise of all is how much my kids like the pancakes, biscuits, and bread that we make from fresh-milled grains. Even a roux comes out great with fresh flour. Very happy with this product. Suggestion: volume measurements (cups, tablespoons) are not as reliable as before because my fresh flour "settles" over time. Bought a kitchen scale and use weight to keep track of my recipes. Makes it more likely to replicate a successful experiment.

Updated and revised Nutrimill Plus is better
By James P on 12/06/2016 Verified Buyer

I had previously written a review of this mill and gave it 4 stars. The major problem I saw was it didn't grind the grain into fine flour.

I had one of the earliest models. L'Chef has since revised this mill, and now includes at least three better features than the first version had. One, the motor is now soft-start. It doesn't twist and try to fly off the countertop when you start it up. Two, the flour canister tube now locks securely into the main mill. Before you had to push and be sure you had enough contact, but now the "click" ensures it will stay in place. And three, it makes fine flour! This is much better than before. No more two times of grinding to get reasonably fine flour.

L'Chef replaced mine for free under warranty, so kudos to them for standing behind their product. This new version of the Plus model is everything I wanted.

Great Flour With Less Effort
By Scott K. in MN on 12/19/2015 Verified Buyer

I don't have a Nutrimill Classic to compare it to, but I DO have a hand-powered mill, and - not surprisingly - the grain is ground far faster this way. I wasn't able to find much flour dust around after grinding, and it's pretty easy to clean.

My only complaint is that the grain doesn't always automatically go from the hopper to the grinder. .. I often have to stir it a little bit to get it going again. It's possible that I have the red "thing" that controls the grain set up incorrectly though... if so, I'll come back and edit.

Upgrade Successful!
By Fozzie DB. in Central IA on 3/15/2016 Verified Buyer

I make a lot of bread for church fund raisers and gifts, and have used a NutriMill Classic with a Bosch Universal Plus mixer for this for over 10 years, and liked the new features described for the NM Plus so decided to give it a try. I am glad I did! Quieter, faster, and with more convenient features, e. g. bagger, separate flour canister, nesting storage. Also, L'Equip quickly resolved a mechanical problem I had with the original machine I purchased, replacing it with another new unit. I am most grateful and impressed by such customer service.

Best mill I've used.
By Sue K. in KY on 10/09/2017 Verified Buyer

I've used five different powered mills, all supposed to be top of the line bread flour quality. The Nutrimill is by far the best and the new Nutrimill plus is better than the original. Quieter, cleaner, and neater; flour is excellent quality a generous quantity is held by the canister when filled. I used my original Nutrimill nearly 20 years before I accidentally put a rock thru it, that didn't do it any good, so instead of having it reworked I purchased the upgraded Nutrimill plus. The new Nutrimill actually cost slightly less than the original did long ago! They were both a bargain, i mill grain weekly, sometimes more often, corn, beans, lentils, rice, etc as needed for baking and cooking and never a problem. Thanks for the new Nutrimill Plus.

Quietest but not as versatile as some
By Diane in Los Angeles on 2/10/2019 Verified Buyer

My Kitchenetics Kitchen Mill has been showing its age, and I wanted to try something different. I bought this Nutrimill and a MockMill 200. The Nutrimill was the quietest of the three (80db vs 90 for the MockMill vs 100+ for the Kitchenetics mill; I use earplugs for all milling). It is fast, and efficient with straightforward milling of wheat and rice; it needed a lot of fussing to get field corn to enter the milling chamber. I routinely mill whole spices with grains when customizing fresh flour for each recipe (at most 2% by weight of the recipe) and occasionally use some oilier grains or seeds (flax, chia, again at a very low percentage by weight of the mix), and the mill did fine with a bit of spice or tiny bit of oilier grain.

Why did I not rate it 5 stars? It really is a very fine mill, but:

I preferred the Mockmill for ease of cleaning and use, and versatility in being able to create quite coarse grinds (important for some crackers) as well as very fine flours.

And I preferred my Kitchenetics mill, despite the increased volume, for those times when I want to use larger grains to make a very fine flour.

Engineering quality shows
By Joseph L. in ID on 11/11/2016 Verified Buyer

Had a Wondermill for years. Storage footprint for the NutriMill is smaller, and it allows filling before turning on (meaning: if I overfill the hopper I can turn it off without worrying about toasting the motor, which I did once with my Wondermill). Have only had it a week, but am happy with it so far.
