Knife for Maverick 5501 Grinder

This is the replacement knife for the Maverick MM-5501 meat grinder. One of these is included with the M-5501 grinder.

Important: Over time, a knife and plate develop uneven (but mated) wear patterns as they operate together (just as the pistons and cylinder sleeves in a car's engine do), so it's important to always keep them together as a set. When you replace a knife, you need to use a new plate with it (or flip to the new side of the plate, if one side hasn't been used yet). Using an unmatched knife/plate set will cause bad grinding performance, rapid wear and possibly even breakage. So you will normally want to have two knives for every plate.

Also: Be sure to install a new knife with its sharpened edges positioned against the grinding plate. If you're an old hand at grinding, you've know this for years—but beginners often have the wrong idea that the knife's sharp edges should face the oncoming meat, and that won't work at all. The knife's edges need to face the outer end of your meat grinder, so that those knife edges rotate directly up against the grinding plate.

Maverick meat grinders are the best thing ever for making your dog's raw diet!

I just purchased new cutting blades for my Maverick meat grinder, and what a treat to have a nice new sharp one, after using the old one for far too long. I've used a Maverick grinder for many years to grind up raw chicken necks (skin and fat removed! ) and lean beef muscle meats for the protein part of my dog's raw diet. He's an amazingly healthy guy, and no way would I ever go back to dry kibble, after seeing what a raw diet can do. The feeder tube is the perfect size/shape for chicken necks, and makes quick work of them. They're a great source of calcium, too. The Maverick is an impressive workhorse, and just keeps going. It's also terrific for homemade sausage, with the stuffing attachment. The only parts I've ever needed to replace have been the cutting blades, as they eventually become a bit dull. I just can't say enough good things about this grinder, and highly recommend it!

Same favorable comments as my review in 2020, except that now I'm whacking up whole chickens, bones and all, into pieces of a size that will fit the Maverick feed tube. Whole raw drumsticks go right through! A local store periodically has antibiotic-free, free range whole chickens on sale, so I stock up then. My pupper gets all that good calcium along with the raw chicken (skin mostly removed), along with raw/steamed/fermented veggies and CBD. At around 10 years old (not sure of age, as he was a rescue -- Polish Lowland Sheepdog), he's still bouncing around like a puppy, no sign of slowing down at all -- thanks to my Maverick grinder. I'm so glad to have found this source for the blades, as the price is great and shipping is fast.
