Motor Drive for CLM (No Mill)
A motor drive is now available for the Country Living Grain Mill. It uses an industrial grade speed reduction gearmotor for fast, effortless milling, and includes a guard to keep fingers out of the drive belt. The motor drives the mill shaft at about 65 RPM. This motorizing option includes a 4.9" OD motor pulley, a 50" belt, and the heavy duty wood base and belt tensioning motor mount shown.
The motor drive is packaged and shipped separately from the mill, but assembly is simple and easy. This is a very high quality setup that runs smoothly and quietly and will do so for many years.
Includes a belt guard.
Motor Specs: Gear ratio is 1:10, horsepower is 1/9, the rated torque is .66/.54 N.m4, and the RPM is rated at 1300/1600 rpm.
The motor runs the Country Living Mill at 65 RPM. This is purposely slow to keep the flour from becoming overheated.
When assembled with the Country Living Grain Mill (sold separately), the assembly measures 15.5 inches deep x 24.75 inches wide x 16.5 inches tall.
The Country Living Mill, handle extension, hopper extension, hopper lid and flour bin are sold separately.

I've tried turning the grain mill fly wheel manually, with the supplied handle. We liked the results. However the level of effort was too high for our family. I rigged up a bicycle to turn the fly wheel. It was enjoyable to figure it out. I found it a bit easier, but it was still difficult. I exhausted three kids, my wife, and I in 30 minutes. It was hard to picture doing this often. I invested in the electric motor and I'm glad I did. The kit was easy to install. I was up and running in just a few minutes.
Yes, it's pricey but well worth it. If you go with making your own the best you will save in a properly designed one is about $100. This one is ready to go and well designed and made. Didn't give a 5 star because the instructions did not mention that you should verify for pulley and belt alignment. I assume they think this is not necessary but it will be in most of these units. It wasn't too hard to do with a bubble level. I just had to pull the motor pulley out a bit and it was fine.
The fixed mounting positions on the base did not permit the flywheel and motor pulley to be aligned in the same plane. It was necessary to loosen the motor mounting bolts on the bracket, twist the motor and re-tighten to achieve acceptable alignment. Excellent product otherwise!
We're very pleased with the performance and easy way our motor kit came together. Love it. Grain grinds so well.
The motor and the board are great. However, mine did not line up with the pulley on the Mill, but with a little adjustment to the mill and the motor they are pretty close. The slow speed should not affect anything. Other than that what a time saver, works great!
This inexpensive motor kit allow us to do other tasks while the motor drives the grinder. Someone simply needs to be near the CLM to periodically drop some more material into the hopper (the extended hopper ensures the mill does not require constant loading). We are very pleased with the performance of the optional motor kit.
Great mill! Grinds grains at what texture I want.
This motor was a game changer. I love my mill, but I didn’t have the time or energy to mill more than one loaf’s worth of wheat berries every day. Now I can mill as much as I want! Easy to put together. This is a must if you have the Country Living Mill!
Easily installed, best with two people for alignment. Works great, done with the hand grinding forever. Takes hours for einkorn flour now ready to rip and minimal supervision.
Grinding takes a long time. It can be exhausting! This motor does the work for you so you can do something else. You'll want the extended hopper if you want to fill the hopper less often.
