The motor works great. After having the hand mill for 2 years we have been slowly switching over to grinding all of our grains we consume. The only downside is the time it takes to manually crank. This motor takes about the same time to grind by hand but gives you the opportunity to be working on something else. Because of this we have stopped needing to buy flour from the store. The flavor and nutrients are worth the effort. Anything worthwhile is worth taking your time doing it.
I bought this for my sister to add to her handcrank grinder, and she couldn't be happier with it. I plan to buy the set for myself in the not-to-distant future. I love the idea of still having the ability to make excellent flour even if power isn't available, but having the convenience of also having a first rate power grinder when there is electricity.
I bought the hand crank mill because I liked the idea of grinding wheat to make fresh real whole wheat bread, and I liked the hand crank because it was one less appliance that made me reliant on electricity. After months of hand grinding I noticed that I became less inclined to grind wheat and make fresh bread because my busy lifestyle made it a challenge to find the time to grind enough wheat for a single loaf, which often took in excess of 45 minutes. So I decided to get the motor drive and I couldn’t be happier. I’m able to grind my wheat in just a few minutes now and it’s made bread making much more convenient. I think I’d still like to grind flour by hand when time permits but in the meantime I can again enjoy freshly ground wheat without having to sacrifice my other activities. Since the motor drive is electric there is no additional noise beyond the sound of the mill stones and I’ve had no issues with it after months of frequent grinding. If you like the rustic charm of hand grinding your grains but would also like the option to finish the task quickly so you can enjoy fresh food in your busy lifestyle, then you can’t go wrong with adding the motor drive.
Perfect motor, very quiet. Works smoothly. Thanks
This is amazing to think about - choosing to use the motor or not! No matter the situation, you can grind your grain and not be dependent on "the grid" or other resources except yourself! My only qualm... the hand mill was backordered, and then backordered again, so ins pite of receiving the motor in July, the handmill may be in stock on December 30... things can be out of anyone's control, which makes this combo so spectacular. Before you know it, I'll be grinding away - with or without electricity. I can't wait!!
