This opener clamps automatically! Ordinary can openers cut downward through the top of the lid, which means the cutter is slicing into the food-containing space inside the can. The Kuhn Rikon Auto Safety Lidlifter doesn't do that—It actually cuts through the outside of the lid RIM. So instead of getting gummy and disgusting like every other opener, the Kuhn Rikon remains totally clean because it never touches the food! This approach also means that when you're finished, there's no sharp edge to slice your finger on. Integrated gripper jaws grab the lid after it's been cut free, and it goes into the trash without your ever even touching it. The Auto Safety Lidlifter is very easy-turning too, with big, perfectly-contoured handles and gearing that doesn't make you strain.
