This Family Grain Mill Flaker Head fits directly onto the Bosch Universal Plus mixer, sold separately, as well as the Bosch Universal Classic mixer. It flakes soft grains and is popular for fresh homemade oatmeal, making a hearty flake from oat groats (oats with the hulls removed) that's thicker, chewier and fresher than store-bought flaked oats.
Besides oats, a variety of other grains can be flaked, including wheat, rye, barley and millet, with a little preparation. These grains are normally dry and hard. To soften them, hold them under running water briefly in a strainer. Then spread the grains on a cloth or towel to let them dry over night or for at least 3-4 hours. This time will vary depending on the grain used, but a little experimentation will help optimize the process. With the right amount of added moisture, the softened grain will flatten nicely into flakes, similar to commercially available rolled oats. At the same time this contact with water starts an enzymatic process which makes it easier for your metabolism to assimilate the minerals in the grain.
Disassembly is quick and easy, and it's crucial to dissasemble and clean the rollers after flaking moistened product, otherwise rust can develop.

Have to be careful when using more than 1 cup of grain at a time. Makes the unit top heavy and tends to fall into the bowl. Great for fresh oatmeal. The unit has been in service for over two years without any problems. Very simple unit that cleans easily and is quite sturdy.
This accessory is easy to attach to the Bosch. I find that low speed probably works best. It produces nice flat flakes that are a little thicker than store bought regular oatmeal flakes. It is very easy to use and just works!
The lady in customer service helped me with my order as I had questions I wanted answered before I placed my order. She was so nice and helpful. Arrived in just a few days. I love my Bosch Flaker Attachment. Simple to use. The fresh flaked oatmeal is so good. Thank you customer service. You're the best.
My experience was incredibly disappointing... According to the other reviews I must have done something wrong or we have different ideas of what the end product should be. Possibly the one I have did not have many flakes just an abundance of coarse flour to grits... I wanted flakes and heavy ones would be fine. I have had a Bosch for 39yrs and have all the accessories and some they don't offer any more, only three have I been disappointed with and the other two were not expensive.
This was so wonderful it works like a charm and it's great to know my family has oatmeal anytime we need it and we are keeping essential vitamins in it. So easy to use too. I can make breakfast for our family of nine in just 12 minutes. I have yet to use it with other soft grains so can't say much on that. But was worth its price and is now paying me back fast.
So glad I got the flaker for rolling my own oat groats into flakes. I’ve also soaked and dried some wheat berries and run them through to add to my granola.
It works great, but it's kind of floppy hanging out there. This is no fault of Pleasant Hill Grain, but of the manufactures of Bosch. I would think they would make it more solid joining connection with the Bosch Universal Plus. That is the ONLY reason I knocked it down one point is because of how awkward the attachment hangs out there. It does work well & flakes my oats, millet, & what ever else I put in it. I do wear hearing protection because it is a little loud, & I'm deaf in one ear, thus, must guard what hearing I have left.
This makes the best oatmeal ever! My husband and I couldn’t believe the taste difference between freshly flaked oatmeal vs store bought old fashioned oats. It tastes so creamy. There is no going back to store bought.
This product and all your products that I now own (seven or more) is just as advertised. I can't imaging shopping anywhere else. Thanks.
I have been using my Bosch Flaker for about a year. I love it for many reasons. It is so easy to use. Because of the simple design, it attaches quickly to the Bosch and it cleans up easily. It is so simple to flake my oats while I am doing other things in the kitchen that it feels as if it takes no time at all. Since we consume quite a few oats in our family the flaker soon will pay for itself, if it hasn't already. The satisfaction of serving my family real food made at home is priceless.
