I recently bought the Bosch compact mixer and decided to try this inexpensive addition to see how well it worked compared to my Cuisinart food processor. I like the continuous feed ability! I also like that you can shred directly into the mixing bowl (eg. carrots into batter for carrot cake). The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because I had to purchase another disc to get a medium shred. It comes with a large shredder and tiny shredder but no medium. This will replace my food processor, even though it doesn’t have a chopper. I can do most things with the shred capability, and since downsizing, I don’t need the food processor taking up space on the counter. If I decide I really need the chopper capability, Bosch makes one for this mixer that I can add in the future.
I have the food processor for the compact and while it works great I have more use for just the slicer/shredder. It's fast and easy to use, a pleasure.
Shredder On top of my machine is a litten high, i have to stand on a step stool to feed it. Im 5 ft 4: )
So far I've used the shredder to shred potatoes, cheese, and carrots. The carrots and potatoes were good. The cheese can't be shredded like I'm used to; it either has to be quite coarse or quite fine. But both work for any purpose, so that was fine. The potatoes had to be shredded with the a different disc, according to the instructions, which is only fine. IT was too fine for typical hash browns, in my opinion. But it worked. I've used the slicer for zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, and even raw chicken (although that is not included in the instructions, but it worked--but left quite a bit behind. Still, it saved me a load of time when in a time-crunch). I'm pretty happy with it. It's easy to wash. I just wish I had some counter-top storage solution so I don't have to take out the apparatus every time I want to use it.
It is strong but compact. Does what it says and since I am not cooking for an army (only a family of seven) on a daily basis it is all I need.
Yep, I said it. This product has made prepping veggies or hard cheese a breeze. The blades change in a jiffy, the bowl fits snugly under the chute, and the variable speed with which I can move food through the wide opening makes very quick work of what otherwise can be a tedious task.
Besides, it's just plain ol' fun to shove stove through a hole and watch it get chopped up perfectly.
One other thing. The product is super quiet.
Big fan!
The compact is an over - complicated gadget, but once you get this attached, it works.
I purchased the shredder unit to go along with my Compact Bosch mixer. I love that you can shred right into the bowl while mixing a recipe or right onto a pizza. Very easy to use!
I received my Bosch compact mixer last week and I've since used it to bake two loaves of bread( one whole wheat and one GF). The whole wheat turned out the best I've ever made, as did the GF. I've only used the slicer once for making potato chips at home and it works quite wonderfully. The bosch is quite an intuitive machine to use and the engineering of these attachments is quite clever, with minimal handling and adjustments from us. There are two cuts available for slicing, super thin or a little thicker. I used the super thin one. I also used the super thin one to make plantain chips the same day. It did slice that as well. The only issue, and I suspect this might well be an issue with all continuous slicers is that when you're near the end of the piece of potato or any other veg, it doesn't stand upright anymore as the feeding mouth is large enough to hold a huge potato. So when you get to the last of the vegetable, it turns on it's side and you get sideways/lengthways slices of it rather than of its cross sections like when it's upright. If you're super particular about consistency like I am, this might bother you. I stopped when it did that and sliced the remainder manually. I have yet to use the shredder and grater discs but I have high hopes for them from all the videos I've seen online of them. I'm a huge fan of German made products because of their longevity and dependability. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this compact mixer I've bought and all its attachments.
Excellent machine for doing small batches of bread.
