Frontier Co-op's Organic Chicory Root (cichorium intybus) is a hardy perennial best known as a non-caffeinated alternative to coffee, as it produces a similar roasted beverage without the caffeine. A larger relative of the dandelion, chicory was in cultivation for thousands of years along the Nile River in Egypt, then spread to America in the 18th century. Frontier Co-op's organic chicory root granules are roasted to produce a robust flavor in brewed beverages. There are no artificial additives or chemicals used at any step of the manufacturing process. This chicory root is cultivated and processed in Europe and is certified organic, kosher, and non-irradiated.
Suggested uses: Brewed into chicory coffee or used to enhance the flavor of regular coffee.
