FGM Grain Mill Head for Bosch Universal, direct fit. Versatile Multi-Grain milling: The grind is infinitely adjustable, from fine for bread flour, to medium for "Cream Of Wheat" style cereals, or coarse for steel cut or cracked grain (if you want to, you can adjust it to such a coarse setting that grains aren't even cracked.) The milling head grinds wheat, oats, corn, soybeans, rye, barley, rice, spelt, flax, buckwheat, millet, coffee, kamut, quinoa, and sesame (doesn't grind popcorn.) It will also mill some chopped, dry, non-oily herbs and spices. The Family Grain Mill grinds cool to preserve nutrients. Large 5 cup hopper capacity. Milling rate is 4.5 oz/minute.
Mixer sold separately.
WHOLE GRAIN NUTRITION: HARVEST THE BENEFITS!
Imagine that for years, your children ate mainly candy. Imagine that you did, too. Imagine an entire nation on a candy diet. Imagine the health consequences.
Natural whole grains contain a myriad of health-essential nutrients, from proteins to vitamins and amino
acids. But "white flour" consists only of the starchy endosperm of the wheat kernel. In its natural form
the endosperm provides wholesome energy, but it's the least nutrient-rich part of the grain. Removed
are the nutrient-packed bran, wheat germ, and wheat germ oil. Then to make it extra white, industrial
processors go further, chemically bleaching it, and returning just enough of a few vitamins to stave
off beriberi and rickets. They're allowed to call the end product "Enriched Flour" but a truthful label
would read "Impoverished Flour." This snow white, denutritionalized substance is a commodity worth billions
of dollars annually to its merchandisers because of a commercially useful trait: Unlimited shelf life.
No matter how long it sits in the mass distribution channel, it can't go bad precisely because there's
actually nothing left in it that can go bad. Nutritionally, it's bad when bagged. A few companies have
grown enormously rich marketing this pseudo-food on the basis of convenience, ease, and its dazzling
white appearance. But a blind eye was turned to the consequences of replacing real whole grain flour
with something that looks special, yet is virtually devoid of nutrition. In essence, candy. So widely
has this nutritional travesty become accepted that we call it—and think of it as—wheat flour. But to
depart further from natural grain flour would scarcely be possible. Then to make matters worse, artificial
sweeteners, flavors and colors, appetite stimulants and preservatives are added to many of our foods.
"Artificial" tells you those things aren't naturally food. But have you ever wondered
what they actually
are
,
then
? Did you know some of them are actually petroleum derivatives? And what unintended side effects might
those complex counterfeit compounds have on us?
The human body is an absolute marvel; scientists have a long way to go to understand a tenth of how we work. But as capable and as resilient as our bodies are, common sense and history teach that we need wholesome, nutritious food to remain healthy and strong. The denatured byproducts being mass marketed today don't provide what we need, because they've been profoundly altered by processes in which real nutrition is considered last, or not at all.
There's a great solution to this problem. By grinding grains in your kitchen and using the whole grain
flour while it's fresh, you get the nutrition needed for strength and health. You also get far tastier
food, with genuine character—incomparably more satisfying than today's mass marketed pretenders. After
transitioning to whole grains, putting out a plate of white styro-bread will elicit comments like "Why
are you giving us
this
... and where's the
good stuff
?". Even flour labeled as "whole grain" in stores falls far short of what you can easily grind yourself,
because unless it's ground while you wait, the essential Vitamin E in true whole grain flour would go
rancid in days (meaning that it's probably been removed), and all nutrients begin steadily oxidizing-away
from exposure to oxygen as soon as grain is milled. What's in those bags is
not
whole grain flour if it's been sitting on a shelf for even a few days; that's literally impossible.
Making real food is more than doable, it's downright fun with help from Pleasant Hill Grain! A grain mill is the place to start. The instructions are sparse, so it took just a bit of finniggeling to understand how the product works and get it adjusted properly.
I grind rye and einkorn. Einkorn does not grind as cleanly as wheat or rye when using a stone; the resulting cleanup is much more difficult than for either of those grains.
Once I had this product running, I ground 850g Einkorn to fine flour in ~10 min (coarser grinds would go more quickly).
I find this product superior to a highly rated competitor product, as follows: lighter and more compact; easier to assemble and get running; grinding mechanism far easier to clean than either the stainless plates or carborundum stones. Quality of grind is equivalent; quickness of grind superior (half the time); grain is heated considerably less during grinding; processes difficult-to-grind grains more easily and cleanly; scatters less dust nearby. The auger mechanism moving grain from the hopper to grinder is more efficient, markedly shortening the time required, and actually clearing the system at the end of the grind.
I have not attempted to compare grinding of peanuts etc. , which the competitor claims it can do and this one does not claim it can do without prior processing.
Having never ordered from PHG before my first order was over the phone, the person who helped me was very friendly and helped me to make a decision on which mill head to buy based on her experience and she was 100% correct I love this mill head. Thank you so much for your assistance. With her help, my account was set up and I am now purchasing online thank you.
I purchased this grain grinder for the Bosch Universal Plus. It took several times before I finally got the fine setting right. The drawback for me was it took 20 minutes to grind 4 cups of grain. In the end I decided I wanted a dedicated grain mill instead of waiting for the flour and then starting the recipe. I plan on making a lot of recipes with freshly milled grain.
I am new to grinding grains and this is the one and only grain grinder I have ever owned or used. It is pretty easy to set up and use. Since I am new to grinding grains I find the flour a little grainier than I'm used to but the end results are good. I purchased this one because space is limited and it is easy to store away.
It is usually a big decision for me whether to purchase an attachment for a reliable machine such as the Bosch Universal or to purchase an appliance made specifically for the job as a stand alone.
I have used this grain mill several times so far and am not disappointed in my choice. It seems to grind wheat berries from coarse to very fine and it is wonderful to have fresh ground flour or even the coarser grinds or what is sifted out to use for hot cereal!
A happy experience so far.
I’ve had it awhile, but just used it for the first time to grind my own grain and make bread from that grain; WOW what a difference having fresh flour loaded with all B vitamins and other nutrients from the germ and bran that you don’t get from processed bread.. So impressed how fast and easy it is to use. I’m sorry I waited so long to use it!
I am so happy I purchased the attachment so I can grind my own wheat. As others have commented, it does not grind as fine as I would like especially when I did my spelt grains. Still it is compact and I love my Bosch Universal mixer.
I purchased the Grain Mill for Bosch Universal Plus to use with my trusty old Bosch Universal Classic Mixer. I like the fact that I was able to add an attachment to my existing mixer rather than purchasing another stand alone machine. The mill attachment works like a champ!
When I was shopping for this attachment I wasn’t sure if it would work with my old classic mixer, but after sending photos and model/serial number to the friendly customer service team they replied within a very short time that indeed it would work. They were so helpful and accommodating to make sure my very first order with PHG went through smoothly. Thanks so much!
We purchased this to consolidate our grinding scheme as the previous wheat grinder we had been using was bulky and took up a lot of room in our pantry. However, what we found is that this mill does not grind the wheat as finely as our previous mills. We have used this quite a bit to make cream of wheat, as it can crack the grains nicely. The upside is that it produces no dust when grinding, and isn't as loud as some other counter top mills are. It more or less sounds like your Bosch mixer does when making a batch of dough. I give a 5 star review as the Mill performs as well as any grinder on the market with a steel grinding head.
Have not tried the grain mill attachment for my Bosch Universal but am excited. It's a very straightforward attachment, saves space, and was more cost effective than other attachments or standalone machines. Our Bosch is becoming our go-to equipment in our kitchen these days. Love the look, simplicity, and efficiency.
