Clearance: Bosch Universal Plus Mixer
This is a scratch/dent/blemish clearance item. Please check the table below to see how we rate our clearance items.
Note: The product images on this page are of a new item, with the exception of any images marked “Clearance item”.

Note: working surfaces may show slight wear; for example, the bottom-inside of a Bosch mixer bowl may
show swirl marks because Bosch mixer whips and paddles are designed to “float” against the bottom of
the bowl.
The Bosch Universal mixer and kitchen center has a special reputation among discerning cooks. It takes in stride heavy tasks that would literally break conventional mixers within a few uses, and Bosch offers features and benefits found in no other machine!
Highly paid endorsements and continual ad campaigns are how some companies sell mixers. Bosch, on the other hand, doesn’t advertise their mixer at all. The success of the Bosch Universal stand mixer has been growing for decades based simply on its reputation for superior performance. Instead of paying millions of dollars each year to housewares celebrities and cooking shows, Bosch puts their money and effort into real engineering advancements and quality of construction. Continual refinement has made today's Bosch Universal a kitchen machine like no other.
The newest model is the Bosch Universal Plus. Its 800 watt motor has a new design that extends motor
life expectancy fourfold... and it was exceptionally long before. Just as importantly, the Bosch has
a unique transmission that gets the motor’s hard-turning torque to the bowl better than in other mixers.
Other new features include suction cup feet, a larger, lock-down bowl with 360 degree handle, and a pop-out
drive shaft for easy cleanup. Another speed was added, while expanding the speed range with a lower low
gear and a higher high gear, still including the pulse feature. The distinct advantages of the Universal
Plus over ordinary mixers are now greater than ever before.
There’s no overhead gearbox with the Bosch, because it's powered from below—a design with major advantages. The base of the machine provides space to transmit motor power to the bowl using a belt rather than gears. The plastic gears in overhead-driven machines are small and breakage-prone, they transmit torque inefficiently, and the heat in their tight enclosure leads to early failure when worked hard. The Bosch belt efficiently transmits far more torque, runs cooler, and is incredibly durable, with an amazing twenty-year failure rate below one percent. In contrast to top heavy overhead-drive machines, this design gives the Bosch a very low center of gravity that makes it a breeze to handle. Bottom drive also provides full bowl access. With no obstruction you see everything that’s happening, so adding ingredients is easy as pie. And without a lot of meshing gear teeth, the Bosch is also exceptionally quiet.
The Bosch mixer’s bowl is shaped like a large bundt cake form, a pioneering design that excels at both
mixing and whipping. Twin whips mount on top of the narrow center column, driven from below by a stainless
drive shaft. The whips float lightly against the bottom of the bowl, spinning rapidly as they rotate.
And the bowl's shape ensures that your ingredients are mixed perfectly—lumps have nowhere to hide. The
Bosch mixer's whipping action is so energetic it will make a cup and a half of meringue from a single
egg white. And being only 10.6" tall with bowl mounted, all of this performance fits easily under your
cupboards.
In addition to its stellar mixing and whipping performance, the Bosch Universal kitchen mixer is legendary among bread lovers. It makes better bread, faster and easier, with its patented three-arm stainless steel BreadMaster dough hook—with the strength to knead up to fourteen pounds of tough dough at a time. The BreadMaster hook vigorously incorporates oxygen, processing 100% of your dough every four rotations. Other mixers merely stir the dough, never achieving the Bosch's level of gluten development. Proper gluten development produces light bread with great texture. Merely stirring the dough produces "brick bread." As many as nine loaves of fabulous fresh sandwich bread can be out of your oven in just 75 to 80 minutes!
Smaller batches too: Dough for up to nine 1.5-pound bread loaves can be made in a batch. And with the
new dough hook extender (currently included free) you can make outstanding dough for as few as one or
two loaves. When whipping, the Bosch whips pick up exceptionally small ingredient amounts thanks to the
bowl's tubular bottom profile. The Bosch stand mixer's 6.5 quart bowl is made of super-tough, BPA-free
polypropylene. More details are under the specs tab, above. Click here for a basic whole wheat bread
recipe for the Bosch Universal mixer.
Gluten free? The Bosch Universal also provides the control you need to make delicious gluten-free recipes,
tailored specifically to your family’s needs. Nothing approaches the tastiness of homemade and fresh!
Reaching beyond the role of stand mixer, the Bosch Universal Plus is a complete kitchen center. Available attachments extend its abilities to powerful blending, food processing, grinding, juicing and more. We were concerned when comparing our old Bosch (lots of metal, SS bowls, etc) that we would not be as happy with the new, lighter Bosch. Boy, were we wrong - we love our new Bosch. Makes great bread, whips stiff cream very fast and with less noise. Cleans up quickly and easily. Made a very good decision.
The Bosch Universal Plus is incredible. I purchased it to make large batches of bread. And as a bread mixer, it has no peer at this price point. It easily handles 8-10 pounds of bread dough, I do it all the time. Its heavy duty motor and low gears offers the torque to knead incredible amounts of dough. I regularly mix the six loaf recipe available through Pleasant Hill. You don't have to measure the flour. Just follow the instructions, add flour until the dough cleans the side of the bowl, and the dough will turn out perfect. The kneading action of the Bosch is excellent, resulting in perfect bread every time. The new Hook Extender significantly improves performance, large batch or small.
The surprise was how well the Bosch works with small batches. I read that it was great for large batches but less than perfect with small batches. This just is not true. It will mix and knead a small batch of bread, cookies, or whatever with no issues. But it does work better with the Hook Extender as it prevents the dough from collecting on the center column.
It is also incredible for small or very large batches of cookie dough. Whether you bake for home, church, bake sales, charity, you just cannot beat this mixer.
I also purchased the Nutrimill from Pleasant Hill and love it. I buy whole wheat from the local LDS storehouse.
You just can't beat this mixer. Whether it is 8 lbs of Challah or whole wheat, cookies, it does it all!
Buy from Pleasant Hill Grain, they're great!
1/20/17: I've had a Kitchenaid mixer for maybe 20 years, and three or four years ago bought a second one because the first was too small for the size of batches we wanted to do as our family has grown from two people to nine. We made four loaves of bread at least once a week for a couple of years, and finally a gear in the newer six and a half qt. Kitchen Aid went out. I replaced it, and a couple weeks later it went out again. I suspect that maybe the gear it meshed with should have been replaced as well, but at the time it didn't look like there was any wear, we were half way through our holiday baking, and I didn't want to wait until I could get all the parts again and do the work, and I had been lusting after the Bosch for some time after watching their videos. We finally bit the bullet and bought it. It was a big chunk of change from our perspective, but it was well worth the money. We've made pizza dough, bread, Nisua, a Finnish sweet bread, and more pizza dough. The Bosch just laughed in the face of these tasks. We'll have to find a more worthy challenge. This machine is a BEAST in the kitchen, in a good way. Recommended.
UPDATE 4/24/17: We are still quite happy with this mixer. We have not been making as much bread with this as we have in the past, mostly just due to less freezer space and less time available. But we do make a triple batch of pizza dough pretty much every single week, and the Bosch just breezes through it... we are at out character limit: (
I have only had this for a short time, but I have already made bread, biscotti and a cake with it, I am very happy with its power and versatility. It was very easy to clean, a little loud but I guess you can't have power without noise, not so loud it scared my cats though so that is good, or maybe not it would be good to get them out of the kitchen when cooking. I had always considered a Kitchen Aid, but then I kept reading that the newer ones aren't powerful and break down in a very short time, so for now I could not be happier, well I would have been happier if someone gave it to me and I did not have to pay. In any event well worth the money and now another biscotti. Well it is a few months later and just used it for all my Xmas baking, as a matter of fact just 20 minutes ago and I am still very happy with it. Thanks
I've tried many mixers, and the Bosch Universal Plus is the absolute best!!! My first try at mixing was a large batch of French Bread. The recipe was easy and it was great to have the convenience of being able to add the ingredients while the mixer was slowly mixing everything together. The dough turned out the perfect consistency on the first try. After the dough was raised I formed the baguettes and let raise again. The bread was wonderful and so was the machine!
Love the new mixer. I can make bread and rolls in 1/2 the time. I was also very happy with the response and shipping time from Pleasant Hill Grain.
I have been using the Bosch Kitchen machine for over 15 years. When my old one finally died after much use (and abuse!), of course I ordered the new Universal Plus. Our family uses it to make batches of 4 loaves of whole grain bread at one time and mix cake and cookie batters. I invested in an extra blender so we would always have a clean one because we make smoothies constantly with frozen fruit and it does a wonderful job! I also use the chopper/slicer attachment for chopping veggies and making french fries. My husband is a hunter and we use the meat grinder attachment to process our venison every fall. My kitchen can't function without this machine!
Love this mixer. I bake for a community center two to three times a week. I bake sixteen to twenty four 1-1/2 lb loaves each day. I also have the Nutrimill grinder and the combination has made my baking easier.
I received a Bosch Universal for my 40th birthday. I am now 67 years old and my Bosch finally bit the dirt. That is 27 years of making our own bread and a lot of other daily uses. I have now purchased my 2nd Bosch Universal. The new Bosch Universal Plus mixer. All of the attachments which I had purchased over the years work with the new mixer. How much greater can it get!
She has been concentrating on sourdough recipes and this machine saves her time & muscles. It is the best mixer on the market. She is one happy camper!
