How external vacuum sealers work

Most commercial vacuum sealers are chamber-style machines. They’re great for sealing anything that will fit inside their enclosures. But to seal larger items, you need an external vac sealer. With this type of machine the item to be sealed is placed in a sealing bag, and the open mouth of the bag is placed between the machine's sealing bars. Air is rapidly extracted through a snorkel tube extending between the bars, then the tube automatically withdraws and the bag’s mouth is heat sealed.

With seal bars up to 50 inches wide, very large items can be sealed. More of our vacuum sealer customers use their machines to package food, but external vacuum sealers are often used for a variety of other products, from electronic assemblies and machine parts to reels of movie film or magnetic storage tape and sterile medical instruments.

Plastic vac sealer pouches are available for our external vacuum sealers ranging from lightweight up to military grade.  Vacuum sealing pouches have a special laminated construction with a poly inner layer that allows them to be fused by heat sealing, and an outer layer of nylon that’s highly impermeable to air migration, even under great pressure differentials. The barrier created by properly sealed, quality bags lasts for years.
