I purchased my Ankarsrum stand mixer a month ago and I'm extremely pleased with it! It was time to replace my stand mixer (a Kitchenaid 5-quart), so I began doing some online research.The KA looked lovely and had run very well for most duties, but lacked the motor power to do a good job kneading bread dough without having to pause now and then so its motor could cool down. That the top of a KA mixer can get nearly too hot to touch was concerning to me, though the KA manual reports that as being "normal". I learned that I couldn't safely use my KA mixer to make other items requiring a long mixing time, such as Springerle cookies—and I know of one KA mixer that broke down trying to make a batch of those German cookies. Its engine was repaired, but the mixer never ran the same afterward. I was intent on making both bread and Springerle in the future, so I upgraded to an Ankarsrum ...and just wish I'd known to do that sooner! Admittedly, it is not inexpensive, but a tremendous investment and it comes with many accessories, including a large, stainless steel mixing bowl! I watched several online videos on Youtube featuring the Ankarsrum mixer, and those reviews and tutorials helped enormously! This mixer is a little heavier than the 5 quart KA, owing, at least in part, to its 1500-watt motor (the 5 quart KA has a 325-watt motor), but yet the Ankarsrum is actually quieter than my KA. I have used it to make loaves of bread, cakes, cookies and pancake batter, and find it very easy to use and to clean. It easily earns 5 stars! — Susan T., MO

When I had a question you answered the phone even though you were closed and in the middle of a power outage and snowstorm. My adult daughter is disabled, and is afraid to use a knife to slice bread. She saw this and was excited to give it a try. After a couple of slices with my help, she is able to operate it herself, Another step towards independence! The only thing I had to do was mark the position the guide should be for the thickness she wants. For spatially-challenged me, the ability to cut even slices is appreciated. Cutting the last slice is a bit of a challenge, and care must be taken to keep fingers away from the blade. A guard similar to the one used for a mandoline would be useful. Also, keep an eye on the screw under the knob. There are reports out there of it being very difficult to get back on if it loosens too much. I check it every few days and tighten it back up.
