Skeppshult Spice Mill w/Cork, 4 inch
Grind your own spices in this quality cast iron spice grinder from Skeppshult. Place whole dry herbs and spices in the bottom cast iron cup, then nest the top cup inside. Twist the two cups together to grind. The weight and rough, textured surface of the cast iron will create a fine grind. Use your freshly ground seasoning, or store it for later in the top cup that's sealed by a cork.
“Look no further! This little mill does a better job than any other grinder at any cost!”
– Susan R., NY
Skeppshult of Sweden manufactures artisanal cast iron cookware and cook's tools from strictly controlled raw materials in their factory in Småland. Made without harmful chemicals, their products have an exceptionally long life span, which explains how they can provide a 25 year cast iron warranty. Their natural and environmentally friendly cast iron products are made without harmful chemicals and require little maintenance.
Skeppshult's factory operates the only remaining foundry in Scandinavia making household products in cast iron. Many phases in the manufacturing are still pure hand craftsmanship and dependent upon great professional skill. Undergoing an average of ten quality control inspections before completion, your Skeppshult products will withstand year after year of heavy use.
Carl E. Andersson established his foundry on the shores of the Nissan river in 1906. Much has happened since then, but Skeppshult's commitment to fine craftsmanship remains strong. In an age of mass-produced mediocrity, a Skeppshult cast iron piece is a connection to a timeless standard of excellence. A Skeppshult pan or kitchen accessory is both a tool and an inspiration—an investment you'll never regret.
“I purchased the Skeppshult Spice Grinder for my wife because of the design and great looks. It adds a sense of solidity to our rather modern kitchen. We’ve been using the spice grinder for some time now and I want to add that it’s more efficient than cute. Great product!”

By Lars W. in MA on 11/28/2019 - Verified BuyerSkeppshult's mill, from the "old country" - so glad I found this. I absolutely love cooking with cast iron frying pans and Dutch ovens. Now I have one of Skeppshult's spice grinders...
* Perfect to crush/grind any round-seed type dry spices - unlike using mortar and pestle, nothing "jumps out and escapes"!
* Using it to grind _toasted_ cumin and koriander seed for chilies + some Cascabella peppers (they are ~ as hot as Jalapeno, but more flavorful)
* In short: dry spices, of any kind
* It has storage for spice in the top, but since I will grind all sorts in there, I don't think I will use that.
They say not to use it with fresh herbs - makes total sense, you would end up with a mush.
Also would stay away from salt, so as not [eventually] ruining the seasoning of the cast iron.
What else is there to say?
It is elegant, good looking, and the feel of cast iron is just, well... great! Was this review helpful to you?

By Steve W. in AR on 5/23/2018 - Verified BuyerWhen I bought this spice grinder I did not know it would have an abrasive texture on the grinding surfaces. (I have used mortars and pestles for years, smooth on smooth). This works much faster and I prefer non-electric when I can, it just seems more real and gives you more control. In any event, this is not for fresh herbs or salt, use on dried herbs and peppercorns, etc. Love this and it looks great in the kitchen. If you grow your own herbs and spices (like me) or if you buy them like nigella (black cumin seeds) and need to grind them into powder or any stage between, this is the tool. Was this review helpful to you?
