Skeppshult Cast Iron & Oak Swing Salt Bowl
This cast iron salt and spice bowl is handmade in Denmark by the designer Carl&Carl. The spice bowl comes with a lid in either walnut, oak or beech wood. A strong rubber seal is fit into a groove on the inside of the lid so your seasoning and spices will stay fresh longer. A notch is crafted into the rim of the bowl to make it easier to remove the lid.
The base of the salt/spice bowl has a gentle curve to it, so while it sits upright, it swings slightly in a circular pattern when bumped—which we think is pretty neat! The bowl well balanced so it easily stays upright.

Bowl dimensions, without lid:
Outside: 3" diameter, 2.75" high
Inside: 2.25" diameter, 1.75" deep
About Skeppshult
Skeppshult of Sweden manufactures artisanal cast iron cookware and cook's tools from strictly controlled raw materials in their factory in Småland. Made without harmful chemicals, their products have an exceptionally long life span, which explains how they can provide a 25 year cast iron warranty. Their natural and environmentally friendly cast iron products are made without harmful chemicals and require little maintenance.
Skeppshult's factory operates the only remaining foundry in Scandinavia making household products in cast iron. Many phases in the manufacturing are still pure hand craftsmanship and dependent upon great professional skill. Undergoing an average of ten quality control inspections before completion, your Skeppshult products will withstand year after year of heavy use.
Carl E. Andersson established his foundry on the shores of the Nissan river in 1906. Much has happened since then, but Skeppshult's commitment to fine craftsmanship remains strong. In an age of mass-produced mediocrity, a Skeppshult cast iron piece is a connection to a timeless standard of excellence. A Skeppshult pan or kitchen accessory is both a tool and an inspiration—an investment you'll never regret.

I ordered my mom a salt bowl to match the pepper mill her friend had gotten her. When they both came the wooden lids were two completely different colors but we had bother ordered walnut. The first woman we spoke to was not much help and told us if we weren’t happy with the product to return to. I wasn’t about to take that. I called and got Barb. She was wonderful! She asked for a picture and agreed the colors were completely off and said she was going to do anything to fix it. She spoke with her supervisor and the new lid was on its way the next day! Thank you, Barb, you were great!!!
I live with the occasional high humidity and this lid has a gasket to keep well sealed. My salt doesn’t clump, easy to use and I love that it’s weighted and stable on the counter so it can’t spill. Very happy, built to last!
I love to bring the "old world" to my home. Feels good to have this in my kitchen, reminds me of family traditions, also very earthy feel. Happy with my new item!!
In a family of cooks we always juggled things in hopes of inheriting Grandma's cast iron. Now I have found a gift that will rival the longevity of the coveted cast iron skillet, a swing salt bowl. I hope to add the swing pepper mill bowl to create a matching pair. Cast iron with no moving parts and walnut lids; they'll last generations!
I had to have this as well as the pepper/spice grinder of the same style. They're quite heavy as you would expect with cast iron and made beautifully with the walnut lid. A bit expensive for sure but I don't regret for a moment purchasing these! Excellent customer service from Pleasant Hill Grain as well.
