This pizza dough recipe with a mixture of different flours is one of my favorite ways to create a tasty and crispy crust. It is absolutely perfect for homemade pizza night. Just add sauce, cheese, and your favorite pizza toppings. This pizza topped with red onions, mushrooms, and sausage. Using the Pizza Baking Steel Round my pizza was baked in about 5 minutes!

Ingredients:

  • 1 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast (1 pack)
  • 1/4 c. olive oil
  • 2 c. all purpose flour
  • 1 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:

To make the pizza dough:

  1. 1. In a large bowl, combine the water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for about 5 minutes or until foamy. Add oil.
  2. 2. In a medium bowl, combine flour and salt. Add gradually to the yeast mixture. Add more flour or water as needed while you work the dough.
  3. 3. Knead the dough for a few minutes or until smooth and gluten is developed. Don't over-mix the dough.
  4. 4. Place the dough in a medium bowl, drizzle with olive oil. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and allow to rise for one hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. 5. Punch the dough down and knead on a lightly floured surface for 1-2 minutes or until smooth. Divide into 2 pieces and roll out into pizzas.

To bake the pizza:

  1. 1. Heat a pizza steel in the oven at 425°F or the BROIL setting, with a wire rack in the top position. The Baking Steel should be preheated for at least 30 minutes before baking on it.
  2. 2. Roll pizza out to desired thickness, 1/4" for a standard pizza and slightly thinner for a thin crust pizza.
  3. 3. Add sauce, cheese, and your favorite toppings.
  4. 4. Using a pizza peel, load your pizza onto the peel, then unload it onto your hot Baking Steel.
  5. 5. Bake the pizza until cooked through and cheese is melted (about 5 minutes).
