This recipe is perfect for using the Zojirushi BB-PAC20 Virtuoso Breadmaker. Chocolate bread is a wonderful addition to your dessert menu for a family gathering or simply to have a nice cup of coffee in the morning. The sweetness of the figs and chocolate is a very delicious combination, the orange liqueur adds luxurious taste to this cake.

Ingredients:

For the cake

  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1/3 c. orange liqueur (I used Grand Marnier)
  • 1/2 c. unsalted butter, melted and cooled to room temperature
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 7 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 c. dried fig, cut into small cubes
  • oranges for decorations

For the glaze

  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp. fresh orange juice

Directions:

For the cake

  1. 1. Sift the dry ingredients (all-purpose flour, baking powder, and unsweetened cocoa powder). Make sure the kneading blade(s) are properly attached, and add the ingredients to the baking pan in the order listed, except for the dried figs.
  2. 2. Place the baking pan into the Home Bakery, close the lid and plug the cord into the outlet. Select the CAKE course, and press START.
  3. 3. When the add beeps sound, open the lid and carefully scrape off any flour that may be left on the side of the pan with a rubber spatula. Please be careful if the kneading blade(s) are moving.
  4. 4. Add the figs, close the lid and continue baking. Press START to resume kneading.
  5. 5. When baking completes, press CANCEL and remove from pan.
  6. 6. While cake is cooling, make the glaze.

For the glaze

  1. 1. In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar and orange juice. Mix with whisk until smooth.
  2. 2. When the cake has cooled completely, spread glaze over the cake and decorate with slices of orange.

Author's Notes:

You may substitute the orange liqueur with milk or orange juice to make this recipe non-alcoholic.
