Basic Sweet Rolls - A favorite!

Yummy sweet rolls sure to be a family favorite, pairing well with any meal!

Yields
2 dozen rolls.

Ingredients:

Rolls

  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1-1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 lb. butter or margarine
  • 6-7 c. whole wheat flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. SAF yeast (heaping)
  • Extra sugar, butter or margarine and cinnamon

Frosting

  • 4 c. powdered sugar
  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Milk for smooth consistency.

Directions:

  1. 1. In a small saucepan, melt stick of butter with water and milk over low heat.
  2. 2. Pour into Bosch bowl.
  3. 3. Using the dough hook, mix 4 c. flour, eggs slightly beaten, sugar, and salt with the milk mixture.
  4. 4. Add 2 c. flour with yeast on top. Mix.
  5. 5. Scrape down sides of bowl with spatula.
  6. 6. Add flour until sides of bowl come clean.
  7. 7. Knead for 3-4 min.
  8. 8. Place dough in greased bowl, cover and let raise until double.
  9. 9. Punch down and place dough on greased counter top.
  10. 10. Roll out 3/4” thick (about 12” x 24”), spread with butter, sprinkle with white sugar, cinnamon, and raisins to preference.
  11. 11. Roll from long edge, cut into 24 rolls, and place in two 9” x 13” pans.
  12. 12. Raise 30 min. and bake for 20-25 min. at 400˚F.

For the frosting:

  1. 1. Combine all ingredients and mix until smooth, adding enough milk for smooth consistency.
