Happy Valley Ranch's Pioneer Cider Press with grinder allows for both grinding apples (or other fruit) and pressing the ground fruit into juice.
To grind apples, simply drop them in whole as you rotate the heavy duty flywheel. The cast iron grinder with its 5-1/2" diameter hard maple drum and inset stainless steel teeth feeds apples through and grinds them with ease. The heavy wood drum is double coated with Poxy Coat II food-safe coating. The cast iron flywheel weighs 12 pounds to make grinding easier, by providing more force.
Withstands the Pressure
The Pioneer features a 1" cast iron threaded acme screw to withstand the pressing pressure that's needed to extract juice from hard fruit. The pressing block on all Happy Valley Ranch cider presses is made of hard maple and has a thick 2” handle with an inset for easy removal. This thick pressing block is ready to withstand the pressure of the acme screw. The screw's cast iron foot distributes pressure evenly across the pressing block.
The pressing basket is made from #1 grade fir wood. The staves on the Pioneer's hardwood basket are beveled for easy cleanup. The basket measures 13.5” x 12” diameter and is held together with heavy steel hoops. The basket has an approximate capacity of 24 liters (6.4 gallons) of pulped apples. The press includes a juice racks to direct the flow of the juice.
“BEST customer service I have ever witnessed. Darrin could not have been any more helpful. He emailed me tips, comments from other customers on the product I purchased and followup emails with anything else I might need. This company is awesome!”

The Pioneer frame is made of fine quality #1 grade fir, so no sealing or maintenance is necessary. Each joint has been designed for a tight fit and is notched and cross-bolted. The frame's wide, low stance and four legs provide great stability. The clearance under the juice spout is 12-1/2".
The wood basket and frame of the Pioneer press comes unsealed and must be sealed before use. One pint of EZ-DO food safe wood coating is included to seal before first use, and for future maintenance. One pint should be sufficient to coat the press. Application takes approximately 1 hour, with 3-4 hours of dry time, then a second coat, with a complete dry time of 12 hours before use. This coating will last 3-4 years.
One mesh liner is included with the press. We recommend having an extra mesh bag on hand, just in case you need it.
Lubricating the Acme Screw
It's important to keep the acme forcing screw well lubricated with food safe grease; this greatly reduces wear and turning effort, and dramatically increases maximum pressure and juice yield.
