Clearance: Maximizer® Fruit Press 36 Liter + Stainless Basket
This is an R1 clearance item. Please check the tables below to see how we rate our clearance items.
Whether you have a few apple trees or a larger orchard or vineyard, the Maximizer® apple cider press provides the top quality construction and superior design features you need. To call the construction of the Maximizer fruit press stout would be an understatement... this is the Sherman Tank of fruit presses. Its frame has the strength to withstand tremendous pressure, and the acme-threaded forcing screw and solid ratchet mechanism make it easy to create that pressure. (The forcing screw is 1-1/4" diameter for the 9.5 gallon model.) With a Maximizer cider press you can quickly and easily develop pressures that will send other presses to the scrap heap. Higher pressure = higher juice yields and more production in less time.
Fast tip-off design: With the pull of a single pin, the upper yoke of the Maximizer cider press tips fully out of your way for full basket loading-and-unloading access. The speed and convenience of this design makes the pressing operation fast and easy.
Best materials: A frame made of 3/16" wall thickness steel tubing combines with a heavy stainless steel pressing basket and stainless steel pan to make the Maximizer a cider press you'll enjoy using for many years. The Maximizer presses arrive in two shipping boxes and require assembly.
New Fast Retract feature: The Maximizer press now features a very handy Fast Retract handle socket. After the juice has been squeezed from a batch of fruit and the forcing screw has been ratcheted backward a few strokes to relieve pressure, remove the ratchet handle from its horizontal socket and drop it into the adjacent vertical socket. This Fast Retract feature lets you spin the forcing screw and pressing plate quickly back up to the top of the basket.
“I couldn't be more satisfied with the Maximizer press. It is more than I expected.”
– Gary R., NM
Important notes: When used with the optional grinder in place, the base of the Maximizer-GSAM press must be secured to prevent tipping. You can do this by bolting the legs (using holes provided in the feet) to a base such as a wood deck or concrete pad. Another option is to bolt the feet to a 4' x 4' sheet of plywood, 1/2" thick or more (plywood not included.) In the accompanying images, the press is not mounted in the manner required for operation. Proper secure mounting of the press legs prevents tipping and also optimizes operation of both the press and the grinder.

It's important to keep the acme forcing screw well lubricated with food safe grease; this greatly reduces wear and turning effort, and dramatically increases maximum pressure and juice yield.
We recommend ordering an accessory mesh basket-liner bag to use with the press. Traditionally, disposable cheesecloth is used to keep finer fruit pulps from squirting out between the basket holes under high pressure, but our mesh bags are reusable and much more convenient.
As with any press, to get good juice yield from apples you need to pulp them first. Proper pulping lets you get three to four times as much juice from the apples, compared to pressing the fruit whole. Our Maximizer™ apple grinder and Electric Apple Grinder are both excellent choices.

Expanded Ratings Descriptions
|R1||Very close scrutiny is required to tell that the item isn’t brand new. Non-working surfaces (cabinet, control panel) look essentially new. Carton may not be perfect.|

By Chris W. in NH on 9/14/2017 - Verified BuyerWe just put this to the test last night. Very well made and very efficient. We are loaded to the hilt with apples this year. Have borrowed an old rickety home-made press in the past. It performed well enough, but we wanted something that would last for years to come. I am a retired carpenter/builder and could construct such (wood), but would it last for decades? Probably not.
Great unit, all in all. If you want a reliable cider press, this is the best I've seen. Very well made. You won't be disappointed. We have many friends who want to come down and make cider with us..... now that they've seen photos of the press on Facebook!!
One last thought. We looked around for used presses. They, generally, want quite a bit of money for them. In my mind, it's just not worth spending $300-500 for an old cider press....some w/o a grinder. Don't waste your money on such antique items.9 out of 9 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Richard H. in WA on 9/25/2017 - Verified BuyerWe just received our Maximizer press and crusher. After unboxing, assembly and washing, we picked about a bushel of apples from our trees; anxious to try our new purchase. With our daughter and grand children helping we got down to business. The juice flowed and tasted so much better than anything you can buy. Next week with more apples and the fire pit glowing, we will make cider, roast marshmallows and embark on a new family fall tradition. Thanks Pleasant Hill!3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Andrew L. in WI on 10/24/2018 - Verified BuyerBought this to speed up my cider operation. It did. The two issues I'm having it the bags that use (also from this place) are to big to fit easily into the stainless steel press area. Second the press disc on top is to small some of the bag bulges up above it, which defeat the purpose of pressing. Another issue is the handle on top interesting design but I think a removable t handle would be better. I have my press bolt to 1/2in 4x4 sheat of plywood no issues with moving around.2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Miles H. in OR on 10/16/2018 - Verified BuyerI have a homemade press that works well enough, but isn't enough to handle our annual pressing party of over 20 friends and neighbors. Last year we rented a press which cost about $50 for a weekend. So this year we splurged and purchased the 36L Maximizer.
Wow this press is well made and has a 3/16 thick steel framework. Very impressed with the ease of use and well thought out design. We pressed about 80 gallons of cider and it never missed a beat.
Pleasant Hill Grain was also great to purchase from. I ordered it online late Friday night and it was here in rural southern Oregon Wednesday. I will be using Pleasant Hill from now on.2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By LuAnn K. in IN on 10/2/2018 - Verified BuyerWe purchased the Maximizer and grinder. The grinder easily took whole apples, but would recommend cutting apples in half for better results. So glad we got the grinder too. The Press was easy to use. I would suggest attaching it to some kind of base to lift it higher to give room for collection containers. Also, when the grinder is swung out of the way, it can be a little top heavy. We put quite a bit of torque on the press and it performed very well. This press worked exactly as I had hoped. So happy with it! Also, customer service was great - before AND after the sale!2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By David C. in OH on 6/28/2018 - Verified BuyerGreat press, very well built. Bought this as an experiment for use in pressing chopped cabbage and carrots for our store-made slaw. Could not be more pleased with the results. And customer service is outstanding, Thank You.2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you?

By Theodore A. in MN on 8/22/2018 - Verified BuyerThis review is based upon assembly, I have not used the press yet.
Solid and strong construction.
The assembly directions are vague and do not address every aspect of assembly/operation. Illustrations are sparse. The packaging arrived without the necessary “Food grade grease”.
I ordered the optional wheel kit, which arrived three days after the main shipment. The wheel kit description states "The set includes two wooden blocks to prop the press legs up, making it quick and easy to mount and remove". However, there were no assembly directions or suggestions for proper usage. It would be nice if I could figure a way to “easy mount and remove” the wheels with the two blocks, but without directions and/or illustrations it becomes a guessing game.
Removing the wheel kit is important because “When used with the optional grinder in place, the base of the Maximizer-GSAM press must be secured to prevent tipping (and it will! ). You can do this by bolting the legs (using holes provided in the feet) to a base such as a wood deck or concrete pad. Another option is to bolt the feet to a 4' x 4' sheet of plywood, 1/2" thick or more” (plywood and mounting hardware not included. )
The GSAM needs to be detachable, it is awkward and gets in the way during transport. It swings just fine but will not lift off. The bolts used to fasten the apple grinder (which is very heavy! ) to the GSAM are too small (thin) to inspire much confidence, and despite that the product description says "removing either is quick and tool-free"; you need two wrenches to fasten each one of the four bolts.
Now the good news. Pleasant Hill Grain’s customer service is outstanding! Phone calls are promptly answered, and the phone techs are easy to talk to and understand. Missing parts are quickly shipped the very same day.
Once I get the press transported and set up where it is needed during harvest I will report back on its operation.Moderator:
Thank you for your review, Theodore. To help clarify some things...
1.) As the directions state, the blocks are placed under two of the feet for installation of the wheel kit. This holds those legs up off the ground, which allows easy attachment of the wheel kit to the press. We agree that those directions could be more explicit, and we'll make that update soon. Thank you for the suggestion.
2.) The GSAM is detachable by lifting upward. Of course, with the grinder installed on it, the assembly is quite heavy. Users ordinarily don't find it advantageous to remove it during operation of the press, but the grinder certainly should not be mounted for transport of the press.
3.) We've had no reports of failure of the grinder mounting bolts.1 person found this review helpful. Did you?
