Gaskets should be replaced periodically, as they will harden over time and stop working — which will cause seal loss, and your cooker won't work. It's easiest to order a with your cooker, so you'll have a backup. (They can also be nicked or damaged by a stove burner, etc.) Tip: When not in use, gaskets can be removed from cooker lid to maintain proper shape for longest life.
Can you use a Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker for canning? The answer is here!
With any pressure cooker, be sure to add sufficient water. Complete evaporation will spoil your food
and damage the cooker. If you want, you can keep food suspended above the water by using a trivet.

Excellent cooker, Just remember the bigger the pot it takes a little longer to reach high pressure. I have three of these and would not be without one, best you can get.
I have confidence using this pressure cooker— the pressure valve is the simplest system of any pressure cooker I’ve ever used. And the time-saving meals I can prepare are a major benefit. The included cookbook has recipes for meals I wouldn’t have expected to prepare in a pressure cooker. Like meatloaf in 15 minutes! And if that wasn't enough, it's beautiful!
Wonderful cooker in a practical size at 8 liters if you are preparing meals for 4 or more!
I like to use an a good quality steamer basket (e.g. OXO good grips with its handle removed) inside this very fine Kuhn Rikon 8.5Q pressure stockpot. Using a steamer basket is great on its own for cooking vegetables but it also can support a (9" diameter) ceramic soufflé dish inside the Kuhn Rikon 8.5Q. I cooked a 3.5 lb whole chicken perfectly in the soufflé dish inside my Kuhn Rikon. Using a soufflé dish in the Kuhn Rikon makes the cleanup afterwards so fast and easy. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of my Kuhn Rikon 8.5Q stock pot. I also cooked a cup of steel cut oats with leeks and tumeric and pink salt (once again using the steamer basket and ceramic soufflé dish inside the Kuhn Rikon) and wow that was a super tasty breakfast.
Safety features excellent. After each use I recommend running hot tap water over the 6 steam release holes found at base of steam release valve which are accessible after you temporarily remove the steam shield located in center of top side of lid. This small maintenance task will prevent food particle or fat residue from building up in the the steam release holes over time.
I LOVE my KR pressure pot! I had only used instant pots and pressure canners previously and the quiet and easy straight forward way this on works is my favorite! And the meals are delicious! I can’t wait to own the fry pan some say!
