This is an R1 clearance item. Please check the tables below to see how we rate our clearance items.
The unique Alpha mixer by Häussler offers the home gourmet a countertop spiral mixer of exceptional strength and effectiveness. The Alpha offers the advanced features of the larger SP-series mixers into a more compact footprint. With its design centered around the power rotating bowl and spiral dough hook, the Alpha gently but powerfully works a wide range of dough types, from very heavy to very high hydration artisan doughs.
Uncompromising quality: Häussler construction quality is far above the ordinary. The Alpha mixer boasts true commercial-level design, a key feature of which is its smooth, powerful chain drive. The high angle lift of the drive head provides extraordinary access to the bowl, and lifting the head is effortless thanks to a pressurized lift-assist cylinder. The case is heavy gauge steel, as evidenced by the machine's hefty 64 lb. weight. With a depth of 7.75", width of 17.75" (with bowl, arm down), and standing 16.4" tall (arm down), the Alpha is sized perfectly for the kitchen of the serious gourmet. In its elegantly handsome cabinet, even between mixing tasks the Alpha makes a bold statement.
“The Haussler Alpha is a great mixer, the best I've owned. It's easy to use and clean. The Pleasant Hill Grain staff who assisted me in ordering were friendly and experienced.”

Expanded Ratings Descriptions
|R1||Very close scrutiny is required to tell that the item isn’t brand new. Working surfaces may show slight wear; for example, the bottom-inside of a Bosch mixer bowl may show swirl marks because Bosch mixer whips are designed to “float” against bottom of bowl. Non-working surfaces (cabinet, control panel) look essentially new. Carton may not be perfect.|
|R2||Typically has a small scuff or mark on a non-working surface like a mixer cabinet or the top of a pressure cooker lid.|

|DIS||These items have never been used but we no longer sell them at full price in our store because it was discontinued by us or by the manufacturer.|
|U||Has had light use.|
|SDB||Has moderate damage or blemish on a non-working surface, such as a scratch or dent in the housing, or paint blemish.|
|NOS||A brand new item that isn't the newest model.|

By Sergej M. in MN on 5/15/2016 - Verified BuyerOur friends have had a Häussler mixer for nine years. They use it at least three times a week and it still works like new. We have a mixer from a different company, not even half as old, and it started to break down already. We're pleased to have purchased the Häussler mixer.13 out of 13 people found this review helpful. By Rhonda P. in TX on 4/17/2017 - Verified BuyerI've had four mixers, all well know brands, but now I've found the one that gets the job of mixing dough done! The Haussler plows through bagel dough like a beast, never slowing down or taxing the motor. I'm beyond happy that I purchased this mixer. I can now sell the Bosch, Ankarsrum and Kitchen Aid.10 out of 10 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Bob Halperin on 3/24/2017 - Verified BuyerThe Haussler Alpha mixer is simply the best dough mixer I have ever owned. I used to have a Bosch Universal. The construction center post was terrible, in that high hydration doughs stuck to it which negated the kneading action. In addition, the top of the post had many grooves which made it hard to clean.
The Haussler makes all kinds of doughs easy to knead. I have made a slack sourdough, a sturdy whole wheat, hard-to knead onion rolls and a sour rye. The Haussler handled all of them easily and beautifully. The machine is EXTREMELY easy to clean; I clean it in less than 5 minutes. The quality of the kneaded dough is far better, smoother and able to pass the "window pane" test than any other dough I have worked with.
Is the Haussler worth the money? Obviously, the answer depends on several factors such as your budget, how often you bake bread and what you're willing to spend for the best. I for one, am convinced it is worth the money and I am extremely happy I bought one.10 out of 10 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Genki in CA on 2/13/2017 - Verified BuyerThere isn't much to say except this is simply the best mixer for bread. End of story. I started with the Hobart N50 which is amazing but too small, really, for the quantity I make (although it certainly has the power). Then I went to the Electrolux Kitchen Assistent which is also a great mixer but again, not the right size or power. Finally, this is the right mixer in terms of power, size, and productivity.10 out of 10 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Da Bäckabua on 6/29/2019 - Verified BuyerI had to make a decision between this mixer, the Ankarsrum and a Famag. All three mixers are getting great reviews and it seems each mixer is designed to be ideal for their country of origin.
The Famag coming from Italy has a permanently fixed spiral which is great for kneading strong gluten wheat doughs, the predominant dough used in Italy for bread, pizza and pasta.
The Ankarsrum from Sweden is probably the best mixer for rye doughs, the most popular grain in Nordic countries. Rye doughs can't form a gluten network and require more of a gentle mixing rather than kneading. Nobody beats Ankarsrum in doing this.
The Häussler is from Germany. According to the bread register of the German Institute for Bread (of course there is such a thing), there are now more than 3,200 officially recognized types of bread in the country. So the range of different grains (wheat, spelt, rye, emmer, einkorn etc. ) and flours (fine to very coarse, refined to whole) is huge and a mixer needs to accommodate all of them. As an example mixing a Pumpernickel dough with a spiral will not work very well, so the Alpha allows to switch to a paddle, which works great for this soft dough. As much as I would have loved to save money there was no alternative to the Häussler since I need the flexibility of different mixing attachments. I bake everything from classic wheat sourdough, to ancient grains, pizza, pasta, Pumpernickel and this mixer was the best choice for someone like me.9 out of 9 people found this review helpful. By Roger in CA on 4/20/2018 - Verified BuyerI've been making 25% to 50% whole wheat breads with my KitchenAid Commercial KSM7990 for years but came close to killing it on a recent batch (which would be the third time I killed a KA mixer). So I lost my mind and bought this Haussler. Made two batches of bread this past weekend and, well, the Haussler didn't blink an eye. It was quiet, stable, and smooth. The timer is really convenient. It cleans easily. I should have bought one years ago.
I recommend buying the food-safe lubricant as well.8 out of 8 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Andrew M. in NJ on 1/27/2017 - Verified BuyerThis is absolutely the best mixer for home or small commercial use. I made a huge batch, over 2Kg, of baguettes that were easier to shape than ever before. I made Pain de Campagne and the taste, believe me or not, was far better due to this mixer. I'm able to make higher hydration doughs with this mixer with no problems; 75% hydration. The mixing time for the high hydration doughs are definitely less than 10 minutes. This mixer gives the dough the proper amount of air, dough strength, and gluten structure. Please note that sometimes the dough does ride up the hook.Moderator:
Andrew, we believe you'll find, as others have, that adding more of your recipe's liquid earlier in the process will produce the results you want while preventing dough from climbing the hook. Thanks for your review!6 out of 6 people found this review helpful. Did you?

By Philip Z. in NC on 1/27/2017 - Verified BuyerI've been baking Euro style bread at home for more than ten years. To put my review in perspective, I'll try to describe what I use the spiral mixer for and what lead me to choose the Haussler Alpha to help you decide whether it's worth looking into buying one yourself.
My typical dough is about 6 lbs (2kg flour/1.3 liters water, 40g salt, 25g instant active dry yeast). The Alpha spiral mixer is perfect for this amount. I can now make the best quality dough I've ever made in about 15 minutes. I started out using a KitchenAid 600, broke two sets of those plastic gears, then went to a used Hobart 20qt. The Hobart was OK, but couldn’t knead smaller doughs or with the larger ones, the dough constantly started climbing up the hook and you end up spinning the dough and having to operate the bowl up and down to make it work.
I've used the Alpha spiral mixer for two weeks now and it’s making the nicest doughs ever. The doughs are robust but elastic and smooth. Pastry dough turns out beautifully as well, and best of all is the timer and two speeds. So far, no size dough I've made climbs up the hook thanks to the hook design and revolving bowl. The bowl size is perfect, I can let the dough rise in it right after kneading. I'm very, very happy. Buying from Pleasant Hill Grain was flawless too! This is the perfect kneading machine for home bakers.3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. Did you?
