Today we're shipping orders for in-stock items placed October 18. Our Hampton showroom is temporarily closed. Despite high order volume, our amazing shipping team is rapidly reducing processing times—we’ve recently added 17 new team members! Frieling Black Cube Saucepan w/Lid, 2.5Q

Black Cube™ cookware from Frieling features a 3-ply construction with a specialized PFOA-free nonstick surface. At its core each Black Cube pan is aluminum, so heat is retained and spread easily end evenly throughout the pan. On either side of the aluminum is a layer of stainless steel which provides durability and makes this cookware induction capable.

The interior of the sauce pan is nonstick with raised stainless steel dots (or "pixels") over the nonstick coating. The raised stainless steel pattern provides superior browning compared to other nonstick cookware, and protects the nonstick coating from scratches—so it’s safe to use metal utensils in all Black Cube pots and pans. The 2.5 quart pan has stainless steel interior sides, while the 1.5 quart pan is nonstick on the interior sides.

The Black Cube saucepan comes with a tempered glass lids The tempered glass lid features a silicone rim that provides a snug fit over the sauce pan, and an air valve to trap steam when the valve is shut, or to release steam automatically when the valve is open. The tempered glass allows you to see what’s going on in your sauce pan, without lifting the lid.

NOTE: We have a 2.5 quart Black Cube saucepan that has a nonstick surface covering the entire interior of the pan, available in our clearance store here.

  • Best cookware ever!
    By on - Verified Buyer
We have used 3 different sets of pans & skillets and finally found Frieling skillets at a local shop. Tried a skillet, loved it & bought two more in different sizes. We wanted to add saucepans and bought one from the company. Then we found Pleasant Hill Grain. Not only did they have the smaller pan that Frieling no longer makes, but the shipping was free!

The handles stay cool while cooking, heat distributes evenly and cleanup is a breeze. I do wish they made smaller saucepans, we could use a couple more.
This cookware is worth every penny and Pleasant Hill Grain was excellent to do business with.

  • Nice pans

We like these pans and they are right-sized. Not too big for our family. I was somewhat surprised that the smaller pan had a Teflon coating inside the pan but the larger pan was stainless steel. Would have been nice to have received both with stainless. Also I called the company asking specifically if the kids could hang and was told yes - but the kids do not have any mechanism to for hanging. Overall we like the pans.

Thanks for your review, Deana. We'd like to switch the pan out for you, but the pan with that style around the upper side isn't available from Frieling now.

  • Wonderful so far

This is becoming a go-to pan for us. Our previous sauce pan was 2 qt. , and was not quite large enough sometimes. I like to keep things down from the rim a bit. The 2.5 qt. model of this pan is great, though a bit wider than the other. The height/weight ratio is nice. The handle is solid, though slippery if your hands are wet at all. It doesn't get hot.

The lid is very nice, and quiet to go on because of the silicone rim on it. The lid also fits perfectly on the Kuhn Rikon Anniversary pressure cooker, which is a nice bonus.

To open or close the valve on the lid, you turn the lower part. Examine it from underneath and you can see exactly how it works. I haven't boiled anything up into the lid, but there's a screw that should let you disassemble it to clean if needed. So far, I just run water through it when hand washing and leave the valve open to help it dry. It does steam up a bit at first with the valve closed.

I haven't tried a metal utensil, so don't know how the stainless dots really protect the surface in practice. As a new non-stick surface, though, wow. Haven't had a new non-stick pan in a long time, and it's... slick. Hot cereal rinses out almost completely with just pressure from the faucet. A quick wipe gets any remnants.

We have a countertop induction unit, and the pan's compatibility with that is important. It comes up to temp quickly, and maintains temp with low heat settings. Excellent.

UPDATE: 3 months in and it's still great. No complaints at all.

No need to shy away from stainless utensils Gregg, these pans laugh them off. Of course you want to keep utensil edges reasonably flat so you don't gouge down between the stainless pin tips, but with ordinary sensible use it's no problem at all. Thanks for your review!
