Fresh, naturally sweet rolled oats or stale, chemically-preserved flakes: Which sound better for your breakfast? If you favor the fresh idea, KoMo's personal-sized FlicFloc grain flaker is right up your alley. Its hand operated design brings an ingenious engineering approach to grain flaking.

Rather than using traditional cylindrical rollers, the Austrian-made FlicFloc has exposed, stainless steel conical rollers that rotate on ball bearings in a cabinet of laminated beechwood. The crank turns extremely easily, and the mill makes a hearty flake from oat groats (oats with the hulls removed) that's thicker and chewier than store-bought flaked oats.

Oats are a naturally soft grain and more of our customers roll oats than any other grain in their FlicFloc flaker—but many other grains including wheat, rye, barley and millet can be flaked too, with a little preparation. These grains are hard and brittle, and would normally shatter rather than crush. To soften them, hold them under running water briefly in a strainer. Then spread the grains on a cloth or towel to let them dry over night or for 3-4 hours. This time will vary depending on the grain used, but a little experimentation will help optimize the process. The softened grain will crush and flatten, rather than shattering. At the same time this contact with water starts an enzymatic process which makes it easier for you to assimilate the minerals in the grain.

A supplied clamp secures the the FlicFloc to your table or counter (up to 2-3/16" thick). Then just fill the hopper you're ready to start flaking.

Standing 7.25" tall, the FlicFloc won't take up much space in your cupboard. But while its dimensions are trim, its construction is exceptionally robust. The hopper capacity is 4.2 oz, and the glass receptacle is included.

KoMo also makes the Flocino hand-crank oat flaker, the FlocMan electric grain flaker, and the combo grain mill-flaker Duett 200.

Pleasant Hill Grain carries a wide range of whole grain products, including oat groats.

High Quality
By Alvinzo W. in NY on 10/22/2015 Verified Buyer

The FlicFloc is so much better built than our previous oat roller. We had the type that has wide rollers and looks like a pasta machine. The KoMo design is so much better. It turns very smoothly and the output is consistent. We sometimes roll flax seed to go in the oatmeal. It works great. The oil in the flax gums up the rollers some, but if you send the flax through first the oats following will clean the flax residue off. We found that filling the hopper to heaping will fill the glass below and that is very close to 1 cup.

Rolls very easily nice thickness flakes
By Barbara N. in ME on 4/22/2016 Verified Buyer

The mill and its construction are nice looking and I believe are sturdy. Rolls the oats into thinner flakes than I expected, which is very nice. Attaches to table tightly. My only complaint is that the corners and edges are so perfectly joined that it makes them rather sharp. Set the flaker up each time I use it, a simple task, I handle the edges a lot. I sanded all the edges which took maybe a minute. It would have been nice if it came sanded, ya know the item isn't cheap. I will still give five stars because the flaker is even nicer than I expected.

Sturdy Construction and No-Nonsense Flaking Power
By David H. in VT on 1/06/2015 Verified Buyer

Flakes oats as described. Not as thin as a store bought oat, but if soaked overnight cook instantly (1 min). Flavor is unparalleled with this approach, and allowed us to use local oats. Be sure to clamp it well, as the handle can really generate some force (a good thing).

I absolutely LOVE this thing!
By Janelle S. in WI on 2/08/2017 Verified Buyer

I've wanted a grain roller for quite some time and finally bit the bullet and ordered one after Christmas. I was never a fan of oatmeal, but having the oats freshly rolled made all the difference in the world. I vowed to throw out the package of rolled oats in my pantry and never buy them again. I have also rolled barley, quinoa, buckwheat, flax, chia, sorghum, caraway seed, and anything else I could lay my hands on. Last weekend I rolled several alternative grains and created a raw granola that was out of this world FANTASTIC. Very pleased would be an understatement!

Flaked oats a breeze to make
By Preben J. in UT on 6/12/2015 Verified Buyer

I use this unit to make my own fresh oat flakes rather than buy them. It truly is easy and quick to make a single serving and now they are freshly made as opposed to those store bought which have been under way for a long time as well as stored in our kitchen for a long time and thus old. I eat them dry, i. e. I don't cook them, and add a bit of milk, and enjoy my "own" product. I highly recommend this unit, no need for a motor either in my opinion.

Great Addition to My Kitchen Tools
By Debra G. in GA on 5/14/2017 Verified Buyer

I am not a gadget collector. To have space in my kitchen, it needs to have a purpose and frequent use. This little gem has earned a spot! Very nicely flaked oats in minimal time that taste so fresh. Great cooked as oatmeal, made into muesli and baked into cookies. The flaker appears to be well made and sturdy, doesn't take much space on the counter and is nice looking. Happy with this purchase.

Easiest Oats and Nice Looking Gadget
By Laura W. in WV on 11/14/2015 Verified Buyer

I really like this flaker. It works like a charm, simple and easy to do (even my husband can work it). I've used it for oats, barley, spelt and even made "mini oats" from the steel cut kind. No electricity needed! AND so nicely built; it looks great on my counter. Win, win, win. A real kitchen treasure.

Such a beautiful addition to my kitchen!
By Tracie T. in CA on 3/30/2018 Verified Buyer

Not only is this little gadget beautiful, it does its job like a champ! I love oats but I’ve never cared for Quaker due to the fact that they are rolled so thin and become mushy when the liquid is added. This unit rolls them perfectly and the taste is unbelievable compared to already processed oats! I even got my husband eating them every morning with blueberries! We love it!

My update after 6 months of use:
I really love this little thing! I’ve changed out the glass cup and I’m using a plastic one until I find a wooden cup that fits perfectly.
Maybe that’s something that can be an accessory!? Hint hint! Or if anybody knows of where I can get a matching wooden cup, I’m all in! Anywho, I love love love it!

Bravo KoMo, bravo!

Does what it is supposed to
By Brenda L. in OK on 12/01/2014 Verified Buyer

I bought oat groats and they cook up like rice. I finally broke down and bought this flaker after reading about grains/seeds and how to get the nutrients from them. Also, any recipe calls for them to be rolled. Kind of a cool gadget for seeds and grains.

Great Little Flocker
By Johnie C. in OR on 5/21/2017 Verified Buyer

I already had a KoMo grain mill and sifter that I love, so figured I couldn't go wrong with the FlicFloc. It does a great job of flaking and my wife loves using it in her bread making. One load makes a serving for my wife and me and I haven't had better oatmeal since I was a kid. I recommend this to anyone that would like to have fresh "seriously good" oats.
