The ABC Hansen Disc Mill can grind virtually any material, from oily products such as peanuts for peanut butter to spices, coffee, grain such as sorghum, maize/corn, wheat, rye, cassava, herbs, sugar, salt, beans... and on and on. Users are grinding cacoa nibs into a chocolate paste and pulverizing a variety of materials from minerals to spices. Maintenance and operating costs are extremely low; one set of plates, which are reversible, will last up to a year in many applications.
In its base configuration, the mill comes equipped as a disc mill (aka disk mill) with 10.5" OD high carbon steel grinding plates. The plates turn at 2,800 rpm's. Optionally, the plate burrs can be exchanged for stone burrs for extremely fine grinding of dry, non-oily materials like dry grains. The mill will also accept a hammer mill grinding head to pulverize extremely hard-grinding materials as diverse as coconut shell and glass, and a pin mill head. Head change is fast, and access for cleanout is excellent. Images and details of the optional milling heads can be seen in the lower section of this page.
The ABC Hansen disc mill is priced without motor or electric motor starter. We can quote a price with motor and magnetic starter and ship the mill ready to wire-in and operate. Power requirements range from 3HP to operate the steel grinding plates, up to 15HP to operate other grinding heads, or for more power-intensive types of materials or higher throughput rates. The mill can be operated by electric motor or by engine.
The output of the Universal Mill varies with the motor size selected, the type of milling head in use (steel/stone/hammer), and the material being processed. As an example, with a 10 HP motor and using the standard steel grinding plates, corn (maize) is ground to corn meal the brisk rate of 35 lb./minute.

This seed hopper may be used in place of the standard hopper for the ABC Hansen Universal Mill. The seed hopper is designed to contain very small seeds (even as small as teff) and has a 1.75" circular opening at the bottom with a swing cover to accurately control the feed rate of small seeds.

The ABC Hansen pin milling attachment consists two plates, one stationary and one rotating. Both the plates and the pins are made of grade 304 stainless steel. The fixed plate has three rows of pins: 50 pins in the outer row, 43 pins in the middle row and 37 pins in the inner row. The rotating plate also has three rows of pins: 50 pins in the outer row, 33 pins in the middle row and 21 pins in the inner row. Each pin is 0.4" in diameter with an exposed length of 1.25”. The pins are removable and replaceable.
The pin milling attachment operates on the ABC Hansen Universal Mill at either 2,800 or 4,000 rpms. The design and pin placement tolerance allows for small, granulated products like sugar, salt, or dry spices to be milled to a finer powder consistency. No screens are used. Product is fed into the center of the milling heads from the hopper of the Universal Mill. Centrifugal force hurls particles outward where they're impacted by the pins as well as encountering autogenous particle-on-particle impacts, resulting in rapid and efficient particle size reduction in a wide range of brittle or friable materials.
Milling rates will vary. Operating at 2,800 rpms, milling rates will be up to 1,500 pounds per hour with coarser milling results. Operating at 4,000 rpms, milling rates will be up to 1,100 pounds per hour with finer milling results.

This set consists of one inner burr and one outer burr for the ABC Hansen Universal mill. The stone burrs are Danish made composite stones with a magnetite base. They're suitable for milling dry grains and similar materials. Turning at 500 rpm's, the stones provide a cool grind output. Using these burrs, the ABC Hansen mill will produce any texture from very coarse to very fine. The stones measure 11.8125" OD, 2" thick and the center hole is 5.375" ID. Each stone weighs approximately 12 pounds.

The ABC Universal Hammer Mill Attachment contains (6) 12.75” long by 3” wide by ¼” thick “blades” bolted together in an “X” pattern. There are three "X" blades attached to the center bore and each end has two bolt on cutting tips. The entire attachment is 6.5” in depth and the blades are spaced 0.875” apart, center-to-center. The 24 total bolt on cutting tips are made of Bennox steel. The Hammer Mill Attachment turns at 2,800 rpm's. Product is fed into the hammer mill attachment from a stainless steel angled chute mounted on a separate front feed cover on the ABC Hansen milling chamber. This separate milling chamber cover and front feed angled chute is included when you purchase the ABC Universal Hammer Mill Attachment. Choose between one of eight screen sizes (30 mesh to 1/2") screens to determine the output consistency.

Screens for ABC Hansen hammer mill come in stainless steel mesh sizes 30, 20, 18, or 16, or in mild steel sizes 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inches. Screens are concave shaped. Each screen is 7.5” wide, depth is 5" and 12” long across the chord line, edge to edge on the screen.
