This is an R1 clearance item. Please check the tables below to see how we rate our clearance items.
Make crispy, beautiful heart-shaped waffles with the Skeppshult cast iron stove top waffle maker! To use, preheat the waffle iron on one side, then flip the iron over and preheat on the other side. Once hot, open the waffle iron and pour about a half cup of batter in. Cook for at least 45 seconds, then flip the iron over and cook for about one more minute. Open the waffle iron to check doneness; leave on heat until waffles are golden brown. Flip the pan and preheat again for a minute or two before flipping back and pouring your next batch of batter in. The Skeppshult stovetop waffle maker comes pre-seasoned with organic canola oil.
Customer feedback for the Skeppshult stovetop waffle iron has been fabulous! Read the reviews below to see for yourself. A comment we hear over and over is how wonderful the texture of the waffles is from this Swedish waffle iron... John F. in MI shared that the "waffles produced have a much superior texture. Crispier outside, yet still tender inside. Yummy!" Elizabeth M. in MD says "It was easy to get the waffles off the iron and the waffles themselves were better than anything I made with the same batter on my electric maker. Crisp on the outside with a wonderful texture." Lisa Marie H. in Ohio told us this waffle iron is exactly what she was looking for and that when she used the same recipe she's used for years, her waffles came out crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Many of our customers use their cast iron waffle maker for sourdough waffles–which sounds especially delicious to us!
Keep your cast iron waffle iron well seasoned to maintain a nonstick surface. We've found that spraying the waffle iron with cooking oil or melting a little butter in the iron before pouring the first few batches of batter in will develop the seasoning sufficiently.
The Skeppshult waffle iron is manufactured with strictly controlled raw materials in Småland. Skeppshult cast iron has an exceptionally long lifespan, which explains its 25 year cast iron warranty. Their natural and environmentally friendly cookware is made without harmful chemicals and requires little maintenance. Skeppshult cast iron is PFOA-free, PTFE-free and cadmium-free.
Skeppshult's factory operates the only remaining foundry in Scandinavia making household products in cast iron. Many phases in the manufacturing are still pure hand craftsmanship and dependent upon great professional skill. Undergoing an average of ten quality control inspections before completion, your Skeppshult cookware will withstand year after year of heavy use, metal utensils and high heat. Skeppshult pans are nearly impossible to wear out! The heart waffle iron is sure to become a treasured family heirloom.
“This is our favorite cast iron cookware company and PHG is the only supplier we know of in the United States. Thank you as always for the down-to-earth, caring and professional service, PHG. We appreciate everything and are never disappointed!”
– Benjamin K., CA
Just like all Skeppshult cast iron cookware, the stove top waffle iron performs just as well on gas, ceramic, radiant, halogen or electric ranges as well as induction heat sources. Magnetic cast iron cookware heats quickly, disperses and stores heat better than other cookware material, and works well with high heat.
Carl E. Andersson established his foundry on the shores of the Nissan river in 1906. Much has happened since then, but Skeppshult's commitment to fine craftsmanship remains strong. In an age of mass-produced mediocrity, a Skeppshult pan is a connection to a timeless standard of excellence. A Skeppshult piece is both tool and inspiration, an investment you'll never regret.

“This is an excellent waffle iron... You can buy a lot cheaper one but not nearly as good. Well worth the money.”

Expanded Ratings Descriptions
|R1||Very close scrutiny is required to tell that the item isn’t brand new. Non-working surfaces (cabinet, control panel) look essentially new. Carton may not be perfect.|

Use & Care
All Skeppshult cookware comes pre-seasoned with baked-on organic canola oil, so after a quick rinse under the tap and careful drying, it's ready to use.
Use cooking oil, butter or margarine when frying/browning.
Clean your cookware as soon as possible after using it and don't let it soak in water. To clean the cookware, use only warm water and a sturdy dish brush, when possible. If soap is needed, we recommend using a mild dish soap. Cast iron products should not be washed in the dishwasher.
To release stuck-on food that's difficult to scrub out with just a brush, try rubbing coarse salt and water over the area, or boiling water in the pan.
After cleaning, thoroughly dry the cast iron with a towel. The pan can also be warmed on the stovetop for 1-2 minutes to make sure it's thoroughly dry. Rub a light coat of natural food-safe oil on the cast iron with a lint-free cloth, wipe out any excess oil, then store in a dry place.
Minor variations in surface texture are a hallmark of a hand-crafted product such as Skeppshult cast iron cookware, and spots or color variations on cookware bases are normal and will fade with use ( click here to see example).

By Waffle lovers on 2/17/2017 - Verified BuyerI just received my order and made our first batch. We used a gluten free batter and they came out crispy and perfect. The pros... This was the only new cast iron waffle maker I found not made in China... it's made in Sweden. Next, I was happy to see it was pre-seasoned so I didn't have to burn off the wax. We love the fun heart design as well. The con is the price. I suppose since cast iron lasts forever it is worth it. A note. We heated the pan several minutes directly on a gas stove before using any batter... sprayed generously with cooking oil... cooked two minutes on one side... flipped over to cook two more minutes and perfect.. It took us three tries to get it perfect and we timed it. Highly recommend and want to buy more cast iron from this company!18 out of 18 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By David S. in CO on 4/7/2017 - Verified BuyerYes - heavy. You will be shocked when you first lift it out of the shipping box. By the way, it was shipped the same day I ordered and received two days later. Back to the waffle iron... We are still learning the tricks of using it on our gas burner in order to get golden brown on each side. First secret is to let pre-heat for longer than you think is necessary. Because of its mass, it takes some time. I use a little dab of butter before each waffle to ensure no sticking and to add to the flavor and browning. Epicurious has an excellent Norwegian Waffle recipe with lots of eggs. We really enjoyed our first experience of crisp, thin, heart shaped waffles with fruit and syrup.9 out of 9 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Beverly B. in TX on 11/27/2017 - Verified BuyerMakes lovely waffles the first time. Slather on a little coconut oil and voila! Beautiful waffles that come out cleanly. Fast! When you smell the waffle, turn it. I found that it only takes about 45 seconds on each side for my sourdough waffles. The funny, skinny handle work great! I was honestly concerned. You need 2 pot holders to pick it up & flip it - one on handle, one on hinge. Works great. You don't even realize how heavy it is with two hands.8 out of 8 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Elizabeth M. in MD on 1/22/2018 - Verified BuyerAfter yet another electric waffler died, I decided to go old-school. We love Scandinavian waffles and cast iron - there is a learning curve but it isn’t too bad - I made a double recipe of batter and by my third waffle had figured it out. I brushed some oil on the iron before each waffle. It was easy to get the waffles off the iron and the waffles themselves were better than anything I made with the same batter on my electric one. Crisp on the outside with a wonderful texture. I love this thing. It is heavy but you get the hang of flipping it - as another reviewer said, one hand on the handle and one on the hinge and a quick flip.7 out of 7 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By John F. in MI on 9/11/2017 - Verified BuyerI knew the specs before ordering but upon receipt of the shipment, the waffle iron "grew" in my mind, partly due to the box being considerably larger (and well padded). The heft contributed to the imagination most so I was shocked when I saw the iron initially and checked to see if I received the wrong one. It's not too heavy but better than average which aids even heating and retention for the topside. I used directly over a gas cook top and got good results immediately, though I expect time will further improve my technique and the seasoning. The built-in overflow catch is helpful. Unless you eat like a bird, this makes single servings, but is much faster than the garbage Cuisinart Griddler it replaced. This will long outlive me! The waffles produced have a much superior texture. Crispier outside, yet tender inside still. Yummy!7 out of 7 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Lisa Marie H. in OH on 10/6/2018 - Verified BuyerThis waffle maker was exactly what I was looking for. I've always cooked with cast iron. I hate teflon and don't have it in my house, except for a waffle iron I got as a gift. I've never liked the way it makes waffles, so I've been looking for a cast iron replacement. The price on this is what made me hesitate. There are cheaper ones on the market, but the quality of them are not as good. I could have bought an antique iron, but it would have cost nearly the same as this one, and I would have to recondition it. I visited this page for months and researched Skeppshult before I finally took the leap. I couldn't be more pleased. I washed it and used it the next morning, and the waffles were amazing. I used the same recipe I have used for years and the waffles came out crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I had zero issues with sticking. I just brushed both sides of the iron with butter. The iron was easy enough to flip by grabbing the hinge with a pot holder in one hand and the handles in the other. I believe the handle design is what keeps the handles from getting hot like they do with other cast iron cookware. This allows you to easily open and close the iron without fear of getting burnt. Great product. I've been telling all my friends about it.6 out of 6 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Tina in CA on 10/27/2019 - Verified BuyerFinding a waffle maker that does not have Teflon is not easy. But after watching “The Devil We Know” documentary I was determined. I also wanted a waffle maker from a company that has proven that it cares about its customers. After researching, I settled on this waffle iron. Before being put off by the price remember that you can pay just as much for some waffle irons with bells and whistles and coated with Teflon. This waffle iron has craftsmanship.
However, like many old school gadgets it does take a bit of skill and technique to get that perfect waffle you looking for, but well worth the learning curve. Here is what worked for us:
1. Preheat iron on medium heat on both sides (very important)
2. Spray with coconut oil and add one half cup of batter
3. Cook for 2 minutes on each side.
It took us a few tries to get the waffle we were looking for but well worth the effort. And I feel like I have a new skill now! So don’t give up! They are crispy, light and delicious. We made a good size batch so we have some for later. Look for recipes on YouTube and remember success is in the heat and coconut oil spray. Add blueberries, fresh whipped cream and a little maple syrup and Mmmm. Enjoy!5 out of 5 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Cynthia D. in TX on 3/26/2019 - Verified BuyerAfter a long search for an authentic Scandinavian waffle iron - plowing through online, Teflon coated, regular, round, and probably good product suggestions for someone wanting a regular waffle iron, I finally found this company and their perfect Swedish iron. Sturdy and beautiful, works great with my glass top stove, this product produces the traditional crisp waffle I almost gave up hope of being able to enjoy again. It took a few tries to get the temperature right (I have way too many plug-in products with temp control features! Do those ever really work?!? ), my family and I are able to make and enjoy the delicious, crisp waffle hearts I enjoyed as a child. Invest in this product. The quality is exceptional. Follow the product directions and enjoy!5 out of 5 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Kfamily on 2/23/2017 - Verified BuyerA timelessly beautiful waffle iron that's nostalgic of pioneer and frontier living, an heirloom that will stand the test of many generations to come! It truly looks too pretty to use and adds such a sweet country charm of our home. The texture you get is unlike anything any electric waffle maker could ever produce, and we were so glad to have found one that is made out of a safe material. There's a comfort in knowing there wouldn't be potentially toxic compounds leaching into our food. Virgin iron ore is pure, non-recycled cast iron that is nearly indestructible. This is our first purchase from Skeppshult and were surprised at how much heavier it was compared to any other cast iron pieces we own. The waffle iron is so heavy, it weighed down the plastic that protected it by sinking near the bottom and tore a little hole in part of the box during shipping but there was no damage that we know of. PHG packed it nicely (we'd just encourage perhaps a couple more layers of bubble wrap to envelope the pan just in case) and was promptly shipped the very day we made our purchase. Our first batch of waffles (from Sue Gregg's "Whole Grain Baking" book) came out beautifully on one side but I need more practice to adjust to cooking in this type of cookware. The heart design is our favorite. We are looking forward to mastering the art of making lots of yummy, old-fashioned Scandinavian sweetheart waffles: )5 out of 5 people found this review helpful. By Clay on 1/14/2020 - Verified BuyerThis is a high quality waffle iron. My only complaint is that the handles are too thin. The heavy weight of the waffle iron is disproportionate to the thin handles, making it a bit difficult to turn.4 out of 4 people found this review helpful. Did you?
