Black Berkey® purifier elements are the world's most powerful gravity filtering solution, certified to eliminate pathogenic bacteria to the EPA's "7 Log" purification standard of 99.99999% reduction. Elements are easily cleanable with a Scotch Brite® pad under running water, and each element will purify up to 3000 gallons of water (6000 gallons per set of two.) The Black Berkey filter formulation has been tested by state & EPA accredited laboratories.
The media within Black Berkey® elements removes contaminants by a surface phenomenon called adsorption, the molecular attraction of substances to the surface of the media. The exclusive purification elements are also impregnated with proprietary media that promote ionic absorption of pollutants within the micro-porous elements. A key reason Berkey systems are so effective in removing contaminants from water is their long contact period. Most systems blast water through their filters at high pressure, which limits contact with their filter media to only a fraction of a second. Water molecules passing through the revolutionary micro-porous structure of the Black Berkey purification elements are drawn gently by gravity and remain in contact with the trapping media for several minutes. This multiplies the Black Berkey filter media's ability to capture contaminants.
In addition to their phenomenal reduction of pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites, the powerful Black Berkey purification elements also remove or reduce harmful or unwanted chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides, VOCs, detergents, organic solvents, trihalomethanes, cloudiness, silt, sediment, nitrites, heavy metals, foul tastes and odors. Even viruses are removed, down to 25 nanometers. Yet they leave in the water the healthful and beneficial minerals your body needs.
Order for replacement or upgrade: Each Black Berkey purifier system comes equipped with some number of elements. Please see purifier system descriptions for the number of elements that can be installed in, and the number of elements that are included with, each system. For systems that can accept additional elements, installing more will increase flow rate. Other gravity water purifier systems can also be retrofitted with Black Berkey elements to bring them up to the highest possible standard of contaminant reduction and efficiency. We recommend carrying at least one spare set of Black Berkey elements to assure your supply of clean, safe water.

Soft water: The Black Berkey® purification elements are designed to remove heavy metals, but will not remove mineral salts, which are added by a water softener. The salt used to soften water will not be extracted by the Black Berkey® element. We recommend that you use softened water directly from the source rather than running it through the Black Berkey® elements.

My family has enjoyed our Berkey water purifer for several years now, and I always buy the Black Berkey elements from Pleasant Hill Grain. We need to filter the drinking water we use because of the repeated water breaks our area experiences. I do clean the filters pretty regularly, per the instructions, but the task doesn't take very long. It's hard to drink the tap water at someone else's house, when there is no Berkey sitting out on the counter.
We've used the Berkey for at least 7 years now and are very happy with this additional pure water source in our home. I wash a lot of produce & need purified water for the final rinse & the Berkey is perfect. I also use this water for cooking & tea. The elements do last an unbelievably long time.
Have used these filters in two Berkey products for years and have never had a problem with them.

Can't drink bottled waters or regular tap water. This has been so good for me. It is easy to use, no plug ins, and I try to keep the filters changed 6 mos to a year, but for those who do not have my problem, the filters last longer, I just take extra precaution.
We've used Berkey water filter system for about 7 years now and the water tastes great! The filters last a long time and they're easy to clean.
The way things are these days, I don't use anything but my Berkey filtered water. Have been using the Berkey stainless steel canisters for over ten years now and the entire system has always worked perfectly for me.
The filters only last about a year..... seem kind of pricey but we like the water from the Berkey so we will save up for the yearly investment.
I am very happy with the water filters. They last a long time and I like the taste the filtered water has.
I love my Berkey, and have had the same one for 10-12 years now. The Black Berkey filters last our family a long time, just give them a nice clean ever so often. I recently purchased replacements since I knew it had been quite some time since I’ve replaced mine, maybe 2 years or so. They seemed to still be working great, but just in case. However, before changing them out, I did the red dye test (just put a few drops of red food coloring into the top filtering tank) to see if the filters were still working properly, and lo and behold, the filters were still working perfectly! Going to hold on to the replacements as backups for later. So for a family of 4, these filters are still going strong a couple years later. These are truly the best filters I know, and Berkey is the only one I recommend to my family members and friends.
