Clearance: Bega Cheese, 1 can
This is a scratch and dent, or otherwise blemished clearance item. Please check the tables below to see how we rate our clearance items.
The cans of cheese on this page are dented. While they won't be good for longterm storage, they'll be great for use now!
Dairying began in Australia's Bega Valley in the 1850's, with each farmer selling the produce from his own dairy. In an effort to improve their individual production and marketing activities, local farmers banded together to establish the Bega Cooperative Creamery Company on July 15, 1899. More than fifty years ago, the good people at Bega Cheese found a way to put great tasting, real cheddar cheese in a can. As a result, the Bega brand is known today throughout the world. Their product has a natural yellow color, medium cheddar flavor, and pleasing texture. It’s easy to cut, grate and slice. This is real cheddar cheese like you would expect to find in the deli case at your local grocery store, and it’s delicious!
Each can contains 7.05 ounces of cheese (200 grams), and the cans are similar in size to a typical 6 oz. can of tuna. You can remove both ends of a can and just push out the 3-3/8" x 1-1/2" mini-cheese-wheel. It doesn’t sag, quiver or run because it’s solid cheese.
“I’m pleasantly surprised by how good this cheese is! Some reviews equated it to Velveeta. No way! This is MUCH better than that! It reminds me of a Monterey Jack. Just very good cheese! Who knew you could get great cheese in a can?!”
– Jana P., CA
Bega canned cheese can be cut, grated or sliced into thin slices for sandwiches, pizzas, lasagna or meat loaf. It behaves just like any other deli-bought cheese–it’s great in sandwiches, omelets, or straight.
There's no expiration date on this cheese. It's packaged in Australia for folks who don't have refrigeration, like many in the Australian Outback and other remote parts of the world. It's also great for those with backwoods cabins, sailboats, etc., because it stays good for an incredibly long time. Gourmet cheeses are aged in cellars for years to enhance their flavor; since this canned cheddar cheese is sealed in a sterile environment, there's no reason it can't be stored and used indefinitely. Just keep it reasonably cool, protect it from freezing as with any other cheese, and safeguard the cans from outside moisture that could cause external rust-through.
Bega's quality cheese is very popular with our customers, who use it for everyday eating as well as camping, boating (sailboaters love it), and as a long-term storable food to have on hand in case of emergency. Give Bega cheese a try. As they say down under: It's bonzer*.
“Ordered a case of 36… not a single can was dented.”
– Marc G., WA
Available in a single 7.05 oz. can, a case of (12) 7.05 oz. cans or a case of (36) 7.05 oz. cans.
Being interested in Bega canned cheese, we think you might also like Red Feather New Zealand Canned Butter, OvaEasy Egg Crystals (uncannily like fresh eggs) and our almost indescribably delicious Canned Bacon.
Many selections in delicious dried fruits and vegetables, baking ingredients, long-term storable foods, canned meat, fish and poultry, sweeteners and more, can be viewed on our main.
*Australia-speak for great, cool, most excellent. And that's fair dinkum.

Expanded Ratings Descriptions
|R1||Very close scrutiny is required to tell that the item isn’t brand new. Working surfaces may show slight wear; for example, the bottom-inside of a Bosch mixer bowl may show swirl marks because Bosch mixer whips are designed to “float” against bottom of bowl. Non-working surfaces (cabinet, control panel) look essentially new. Carton may not be perfect.|
|R2||Typically has a small scuff or mark on a non-working surface like a mixer cabinet or the top of a pressure cooker lid.|
|FR||Mostly returned items which have been brought fully up to new-equipment performance specs at the factory.|
|D||Demonstration items have been operated briefly at Pleasant Hill Grain.|
|DIS||These items have never been used but we no longer sell them at full price in our store because it was discontinued by us or by the manufacturer.|
|U||Has had light use.|
|SDB||Has moderate damage or blemish on a non-working surface, such as a scratch or dent in the housing, or paint blemish.|
|NOS||A brand new item that isn't the newest model.|

By Kevin P. in AR on 4/11/2016 - Verified BuyerI asked six people to sample a can of Bega Cheese. In general all thought it tasted really good and they'd definitely recommend Bega brand cheese to family and friends. The test group consisted of a mechanical engineer, a banker, an RN, two teenage boys, and a retiree. Each taster got one small wedge. Comments noted: Removing the cheese from the can was easy, and it came out intact. There are no oily or watery fluids present. It's somewhat soft and doesn't crumble. The taste test group commented it was not too salty or sharp, but not too plain either, similar to American cheese or string cheese. Bega brand cheese is really a multi-use cheese. It can be consumed right from the can, sliced onto crackers or sandwiches, melted atop, or into, a dish. Bega cheese would be easy to bake with. The label indicates that Bega brand cheese is a good source of fat and protein. The Bega can is a very durable metal package, indicating a long shelf-life. The can is small enough to pocket. It could actually be a 'barterable', and should seriously be considered for any food reserve. Again, Bega brand canned cheese is a definite winner! Additionally, I thought the great personal service and rapid delivery from Pleasant Hill Grain remarkable. Thanks.30 out of 30 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By James on 3/2/2016 - Verified BuyerI don't ever write reviews but this cheese is delicious! My wife and I have a substantial emergency and survival food supply and added a case of this cheese and a case of the butter to augment things and provide variety. Temptation and curiosity got the best of us after purchasing a case of pilot bread crackers to try some. I'll blame the wife for this breach of supplies. We looked like kids munching down on forbidden fruit. Now I'll have to get 2 locks to keep the trust issues at bay. Great!!16 out of 16 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Guy T. in OK on 6/11/2016 - Verified BuyerYears ago I was stationed in the deserts of Saudi Arabia working with their soldiers. We often shared our rations. As there was no refrigeration and no ice our fare was pretty basic. However, a great treat, enjoyed by all was pita bread and canned cheese. After leaving Arabia I searched everywhere I was stationed or visited for canned cheese. No joy! Then Kismet intervened and there it was Bega canned cheese. I ordered a case, purchased many rounds of pita bread and have been reliving the joy days of the desert. I find that the cheese is even better with beer. I will be a loyal customer as I fill the food box for camping and hunting trips.11 out of 11 people found this review helpful. Did you?

By James B. in TX on 2/16/2016 - Verified BuyerBeing that this was my first purchase from Pleasant Hill I was extremely pleased with their service and speed of delivery. The products (butter and cheese) are thus far not used as they're for emergency purposes. However, the temptation to try them will probably win out. They just look so inviting. Well packaged and long dated. Despite the inclement weather they had I was impressed with the speed of response I had to a question. I'm sure I will be purchasing more as I augment my "survival " cache.5 out of 5 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Randy S. in KS on 4/12/2016 - Verified BuyerWe bought Bega Cheese for long-term storage pantry. My wife decided to try making queso with Bega plus some salsa. Worked really well. It actually melts, unlike all the "cheese-food" products out there. Tastes great. Excellent texture. And long-term shelf life. We bought more!3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Jay on 4/11/2016 - Verified BuyerI have received two orders of Bega canned cheese in case lots. One case came with almost every can dented, but Pleasant Hill replaced the case at their expense. The condition and the quality of the product has been excellent. Although the cheese does not melt well it is very tasty at room temperature. I have stored some of the cans in both my camper and my Gulf coast Bayhouse for months in Texas summer heat with no deleterious effects.2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you?
