Clearance: Ankarsrum Mixer Jubilee Silver
This is an R1 clearance item. Please check the tables below to see how we rate our clearance items.
Built in the small city of Ankarsrum, Sweden, the Assistent® embodies a decades-old pride of craftsmanship. The people of Ankarsrum build a very special kitchen tool to the highest standard of quality, and at Pleasant Hill Grain we're pleased to offer their products to you! We use Ankarsrum mixers in the PHG kitchen, and understand very well how unique and special they are.
The Ankarsrum Original® has been revered for decades by cooks who want extraordinary performance from their principal kitchen machine. A great all-purpose stand mixer, its power also makes it a world class bread dough mixer and kneader. Ankarsrum mixers are renowned for long term reliability and quality results whether you're making a cake, whipping a meringue, or preparing as many as nine loaves of light, delicious bread. The recently updated model AKM 6230 is the best Ankarsrum mixer ever, a standout machine with tremendous capabilities.
The Ankarsrum Original includes two bowls: A stainless bowl, and a clear, BPA-free whisk beater bowl. The clear bowl produces beautiful meringues, beating up to 18 egg whites—or as few as one—with exceptional results. You can also cream butter, margarine and shortening with sugar to the creamiest texture for all your cookie needs. The clear bowl is stationary, and the whisks are driven from below via a center column in the bowl (the clear bowl is shaped something like a bundt cake pan, as you can see in the images above). This arrangement provides completely open access to the top of the bowl, with no overhead motor drive in the way. When mixing with either bowl, the only metal in contact with your food is food-grade stainless steel. Made of Tritan Copolyester, the Ankarsrum mixer's clear bowl can withstand even boiling liquids without warping.
“I thought I was taking a real chance on this type of product. No gamble here! This has met all my expectations and then some. Did I think it was pricey? Yep. I got what I paid for! Well designed and thought out. My wife made pizza dough the day it arrived. She said it is now hers!”
– Thomas H., WA
Using the stainless bowl, the Ankarsrum Original mixes and kneads smooth, silky, elastic dough quickly and easily with its unique roller and scraper design. This method effectively mimics kneading by hand, without the time and effort. The stainless bowl revolves as the mixer runs, and as it turns, the deeply fluted roller acts as your fingers, with the scraper mimicking the palm of your hand. The scraper folds the dough with a rhythmic motion while the roller provides a powerful massaging action. From very large batches to very small, your dough comes out wonderfully smooth and elastic. The biggest difference between dense, heavy baked goods and delightfully textured products is proper development of the gluten in the dough, and the powerful Ankarsrum mixer is a master of kneading technique.
The large 7.5 quart stainless steel bowl of the Ankarsrum Original holds up to 6.7 lbs of flour, enough to make approximately 11.5 pounds of bread dough, which will make 7 loaves in 8" loaf pans. It also works wonderfully well with batches of dough as small as 1 pound. The efficient, high-torque 600 watt motor runs smoothly and quietly, providing ample power to mix and knead even the largest batch of heavy bread dough without straining. The Ankarsrum Original was nicknamed "The Workhorse Mixer" not by its maker but by users who praise this powerful kitchen helper that's so much fun to use.
Any speed from 40 to 180 RPM can be selected, and an electronic speed sensor automatically adjusts motor torque to the load. The Ankarsrum's advanced transmission features a belt drive that transmits power more efficiently than common gear drives—producing more usable power than mixers with much higher wattage ratings. This advantage becomes even more pronounced over time as the lubricant in typical gear driven mixers dries to a sticky paste, and most doesn't even stay between the gear teeth. Look inside such a machine after a few years and you'll see grease in abundance, except where it's really needed. Ankarsrum mixers, in contrast, maintain their higher efficiency and power for years and years.
A timer is standard equipment, so the Ankarsrum Original will do its work quietly and expertly while you attend to other tasks. The control panel is angled for comfortable use, and the large timer and speed controls are attractive and easy to read.
The Ankarsrum Original mixer measures 13.5"H x 10.5"W x 15.7"D and weighs 19 lbs. with stainless bowl. It sits firmly on solid rubber feet, and won't walk on the countertop during use. The shell of the mixer is metal, and is available in your choice of beautiful and durable finishes. The mixer has a glossy finish in all colors except Mineral White and Royal Blue, which have a matte finish. The Ankarsrum Original mixer has a manufacturer's warranty covering the motor and drive train for seven years, and all other parts for one year.
With a wide array of available accessories, the Ankarsrum adds a myriad of exciting dimensions to your cooking experience. From blending and juicing and slicing and grating and flour making and grain flaking and cookie pressing—to pasta making, berry straining, meat grinding, sausage stuffing, and more. It would be easier to list what the Ankarsrum mixer doesn't do!
Is someone in your home on a gluten-free diet? Baking your own tailor-made recipes at home offers variety, freshness and satisfaction that commercially prepared products can't touch.
“After thirty purchases, I'm extremely satisfied with the quality of your products and your professionalism. Customer service actually responds and treats you like a human being. Orders arrive in 2-3 days, very well packaged, and pricing is often below the manufacturer's.”
– Roxanna R., MI
The Ankarsrum Original mixer is a lifetime investment in cooking enjoyment and superior results. While it is, strictly speaking, a machine, like many owners you'll likely come to think of it more as your creative companion in the kitchen.
Included with the standard-package Ankarsrum Original are the high capacity stainless steel bowl with cover, roller, scraper and dough hook, BPA-free beater bowl with drive shaft and standard double beater/whisks, hand spatula, cake beater whisks, a helpful new Quick Start guide and Ankarsrum's new 113-page recipe book.
The Ankarsrum Original mixer excels at producing dough with perfectly developed gluten, the kind of dough that will make your baked goods light, fluffy and delectable. From a tiny batch up to nine loaves at once, the Ankarsrum mixer is the ideal machine for bread, and performs a remarkable range of other kitchen tasks superbly, as well.
The Ankarsrum Original has been offered in past years as the Electrolux® Assistent, the Magic Mill DLX, and the Verona® Assistent.
Pleasant Hill Grain has been the largest U.S. Ankarsrum retailer for many years. We use this exceptional machine regularly in our own kitchen at PHG, and we’re here as your resource whether you’re considering the Ankarsrum, have a question about your mixer, or are thinking of adding an attachment. Expanded Ratings Descriptions
|R1||Very close scrutiny is required to tell that the item isn’t brand new. Non-working surfaces (cabinet, control panel) look essentially new. Carton may not be perfect.|

By C J F. in TX on 4/17/2015 - Verified BuyerI have only had my mixer a week but have done three very different doughs and bakes so I have some appreciation of the Ankarsrum mixer. Since attending bread classes at the San Francisco Baking Institute I have wanted a spiral mixer both for capacity and bread characteristics. When the gears on our Kitchen Aid started groaning on my bread dough I decided it was time. (Note: I have a wood fired oven and need about 12 to 15 pounds of dough as a minimal batch so big batches are helpful. )
First impressions of the Ankarsrum mixer are quite positive. While the instructions are a bit vague online videos are helpful. While I am still tuning my process it is clear the dough mixes well and is kneaded more gently and with less aeration than a conventional mixer. To date my doughs have generally been underdeveloped but that is just fine tuning. Experience so far suggests the results with this mixer will be quite predictable and that is s blessing.
I love that it doesn't walk like conventional mixers. And I like the range of speed control and the timer which give more freedom to your baking process.
Two cautions. Heavy bread doughs like to grab scrapers And utensils so TURN IT OFF when you put any object inside the bowl. Also, treat the scraper with care to protect the scraping edge of the blade. It can be nicked somewhat easily which I did. On the plus side a little rubbing on a fingernail smoothed it back up and it is working perfectly.
Great service from Pleasant Hill.92 out of 92 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Sandra F. in PA on 2/8/2016 - Verified BuyerI love my new mixer. I can mix enough dough in the large stainless bowl to make several loaves of bread; with my Kitchen Aid it was impossible. I especially like the scraper feature and the lid. I can proof my bread in the same bowl as mixed in. I recently recommended this mixer to a friend who also owns a Kitchen Aid and she was as impressed with the features as I was. I should have bought this sooner.40 out of 40 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Barbara T. in WA on 5/5/2016 - Verified BuyerEspecially great for bread dough (I've had more success with the roller attachment than the dough hook). Open top makes adding ingredients a snap. After breaking the gears in my Pro Kitchen Aid so many times, I decided to try this unusual mixer. Solid construction, and beautiful too. I like the whisk attachments for light mixing. Very clever design. The only thing lacking is a good manual on how to use it! I finally found one online.35 out of 35 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By David G. in OH on 11/21/2017 - Verified BuyerI've only had the mixer a couple of days and can't speak definitely yet. But I think that definitive assessment will closely mirror my initial experience with a fruit cake followed by a Six-Braid Ginger Pumpkin Spice Bread yeast bread: Outstanding. Getting acquainted with the machine will take some time, but gauging the readiness of the yeasted bread while kneading was easy and I'm very much a novice. Texture and touch of the dough very smooth even with diced ginger and raisins.
I was really surprised that the motor was quite subdued, not excessively loud as other some other brands. Open bowl access, easy to add ingredients. Easy to move under counter or anywhere you want as it is relatively light. Detachable cord. I am very happy glad I learned of the Ankarsrum just before the purchase of another brand and that gave time for some research that persuaded me the Ankarsrum is the superior machine.
Update: Three months have passed now, with a lot of bread mixed, kneaded, baked and eaten. Excellent machine. Easy to add ingredients and monitor the process. Ankarsrum was the right choice.34 out of 34 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Amy C. in CA on 5/12/2016 - Verified BuyerI took a long time to finally decide to buy this mixer. The design was different from any I'd used, and the price was higher. But I'd been through KitchenAid, Cuisinart and Breville and was still unhappy. This is the absolute best I've ever used. The design is brilliant, it takes on small jobs and big, and there is hardly any mess to clean up due to the brilliant design! I love this mixer, and recommend it highly. I'm looking forward to years with it. Kneads dough like a charm, mixed my cakes well with no problems, can handle the tiniest job or the biggest and is a joy to work with.33 out of 33 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Lawrence C. in PA USA on 4/25/2016 - Verified BuyerThis is my first "stand" mixer. After careful consideration and many hours of research, I finally decided on the Ankarsrum. My primary reason for selecting this machine is for bread doughs. My first bread dough had a hydration of 68%. The mixer handled it effortlessly. But the real test came when I made bagels. The recipe said to take it out of the mixer when the mixer got hot (presumably with a KitchenAid) and knead 10 more minutes by hand. I was able to finish the dough in the Ankarsrum without any intervention other than removing the bowl scraper because it started to interfere with the kneading action of the roller. I have yet to use the other attachments other than for testing, but I will update my review when I do. Over all, I'm am pleased with the choice I have made and think it's worth the price tag of a machine that will probably give me years of service.31 out of 31 people found this review helpful. By Joachim K. in TX on 10/8/2016 - Verified BuyerI appreciate rock solid, well built machines and am more than pleased with my purchase. I am actively avoiding buying anything made in China, as difficult as that sometimes appears. While the user manual is laughable, the videos at the Ankarsrum website provide useful information on how to use the mixer for various doughs and batters. The learning curve is slight and operating the mixer quickly becomes intuitive. I'm now set up to bake everything I desire from scratch and we're very happy with the results.23 out of 23 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Miriam K. in WA on 7/16/2016 - Verified BuyerSo far, I've loved the mixer for making bread. The learning curve isn't as steep as I was led to believe, but I do have to rework certain recipes and figure out when it is best to add which ingredients. You actually require less flour and the dough is ready for its rise much more quickly than with my Bosch. And it is SOOO quiet. Also, despite the fact that it weighs far less than the Bosch or the KitchenAid, it is incredibly stable. This one doesn't go for walks across the counter.
Although the components are largely dishwasher safe, I've found that it's better to wash them by hand simply because of their shape. Nonetheless, it's still easier to clean than my Bosch was. My only complaint is the lip at the top of the bowl. Because it curls inwards, dough catches there.
We'll see how it does with cakes and cookies, though I've been forewarned to make sure that butter and cream cheese need to be well-softened before creaming.19 out of 19 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By AJP in AZ on 12/9/2016 - Verified BuyerI could no longer get parts for my 40 year old Braun Kitchen Machine. I tried a Bosch and it didn't have quite enough access to the bowl. Besides, it was still pretty loud and I liked the idea of a more powerful motor. What a bonus! The Ankarsrum is quiet enough to operate with a television in the same room. The bowl access is great, the roller works so well I haven't even tried the dough hook yet. YouTube videos were more helpful than the manual but, really, its quite intuitive.
Pleasant Hill Grain was efficient, friendly, and helpful. I'm thrilled with my new mixer.17 out of 17 people found this review helpful. Did you?
By Michael P. in TX on 2/4/2018 - Verified BuyerFirst, Pleasant Hill Grain, the website was easy to navigate and they honored their Christmas discount even though there was an apparent national shortage of most colors, esp. the popular ones. They managed to deliver it 11 days earlier than originally stated. Very satisfied.
Then the Ankarsram Assistent Mixer. It was a bit more expensive than most of the others, but starting with the packaging, it was obvious why. It was triple boxed and arrived totally undamaged. This mixer is one of those things that justifies its price. I am in the aerospace industry and qualified to say that this is a well-built appliance. It is a quality unit, with excellent fit, finish and materials. The painted surfaces are glossy and the paint looks deep. FYI, black chrome is not black and chrome, it is a medium dark grey, like black-chrome. In the pictures on line it looked black, but I rolled the dice and really like the color. I have tried several recipes, varying in size, up to a challa bread recipe which took nearly 5 pounds of flour, and it didn't even strain. As mentioned on various blogs and videos there is a learning curve, but mainly figuring out existing recipes as they are adapted to this mixer. No big deal. I bought this primarily to make bread and have not tried the small bowl and mixers yet, so I cannot comment on them. Again, very, very satisfied with the mixer.10 out of 10 people found this review helpful. Did you?
