The Swedish-made Ankarsrum Original® has been revered for decades by cooks who want exceptional performance from their primary kitchen machine. A great all-purpose stand mixer, its strength also makes it a world-class dough mixer. It's renowned for long term reliability and quality results whether you're making a cake, whipping a meringue, or preparing as many as seven loaves of scrumptious bread. The latest model N30 is the best Ankarsrum mixer ever, a standout machine with great capabilities.

Newly designated the "Ankarsrum Original", the machines in this line have been known in the past as the Electrolux® Assistent, the Magic Mill DLX, and the Verona® Assistent. Name variations have been the result of changes in which U.S. company was serving as importer. The new Ankarsrum Original badge best reflects the origin of this outstanding machine, which has been built for over forty years by the Ankarsrum company in southern Sweden. The people of Ankarsrum take pride in producing a very special kitchen tool to the highest standard of quality.

The Ankarsrum Original's white whisk beater bowl will create beautiful meringues, beating up to 18 egg whites—or as few as one—with excellent results. You can also cream butter, margarine and shortening with sugar to the creamiest texture for all your cookie needs. When the white bowl is used, it’s stationary (the stainless bowl turns during use), and the whisks drive from below via a center column in the bowl (the white bowl is shaped something like a bundt cake pan.) This arrangement provides total access to the top of the Ankarsrum Original's bowl, with no overhead motor drive in the way. When mixing with either bowl, the only metal in contact with your food is food-grade stainless steel.

  • “The Ankarsrum mixer is the best small appliance in my kitchen. Not only does it make fantastic breads, but add a few attachments and you'll be making pasta, juice, smoothies, grating cheese, grinding meat, nuts and chocolate... Excellent quality & nearly limitless versatility.”

    – Bonnie R., MA

Using the stainless bowl, the Ankarsrum Original mixes and kneads smooth, silky, elastic dough quickly and easily with its unique roller and scraper design. This method effectively mimics kneading by hand, without the time and effort. As the stainless bowl revolves, the deeply fluted roller acts as your fingers, with the scraper mimicking the palm of your hand. The scraper folds the dough with a rhythmic motion while the roller provides a powerful massaging action. Your dough comes out smooth and elastic, in large or small batches. The biggest difference between dense, heavy baked goods and delightfully textured products is proper development of the gluten in the dough.

Any speed from 40 to 140 RPM can be selected, and an electronic speed sensor automatically adjusts motor torque to the load. A timer is standard equipment, so the Ankarsrum Original will do its work while you attend to other tasks. The control panel is angled for comfortable use, and the large timer and speed controls are attractive and easy to read. Your Ankarsrum Original mixer includes a new instructional DVD to get you off to a quick start.

The large 7.5 quart stainless steel bowl of the Ankarsrum Original holds up to 18 cups (~5.3 lbs) of flour, enough to make approximately 10.75 pounds of bread dough, which will make five to seven loaves in 8" loaf pans. The efficient, high-torque 600 watt motor runs smoothly and quietly; coupled with an advanced transmission design, it provides ample power to mix and knead even the largest batch of heavy bread dough without straining. The Ankarsrum Original was nicknamed "The Workhorse Mixer" not by its maker but by users who praise this powerful kitchen helper that's so enjoyable to use.

The Ankarsrum Original mixer measures 13.5"H x 10.5"W x 15.7"D and weighs 19 lbs. with stainless bowl. It sits firmly on solid rubber feet, and won't walk on the countertop during use. The shell of the mixer is made of strong cast metal, and is available in your choice of beautiful and durable finishes. The Ankarsrum Original mixer has a manufacturer's warranty covering the motor and drive train for five years, and all other parts for one year.

  • “I can't thank you enough! You’ve gone way beyond customer service here, and I didn't even buy anything. I’ll be sending as much business your way as I can! You absolutely made my week.”

    – Gayle, OR

With a wide array of available accessories, the Ankarsrum offers to add a myriad of exciting dimensions to your cooking experience. On a gluten-free diet? Baking your own tailor-made recipes at home provides the variety, freshness and satisfaction that commercially prepared products just can't.

Included with the Ankarsrum Original are the high capacity stainless steel bowl with cover, roller, scraper and dough hook, poly beater-bowl with drive shaft and standard whips, the new cake beater whisk, and instructional DVD.

The Ankarsrum Original mixer is a lifetime investment in cooking enjoyment and superior results. While it is a machine, like many owners you'll likely come to think of it more as your creative companion in the kitchen.

Last year I needed to replace a dying KitchenAid Artisan and chose the Ankarsrum over the Bosch Universal because it seemed like the Bosch needed too many add-ons. I'm totally satisfied with the Ankarsrum. I've made lots of different kinds of bread, cookies and cakes, and whipped egg whites with no issues. There is a learning curve. After some trial and error, I almost always use the dough hook for bread, the roller and scraper for almost everything else, and ALWAYS use softened if not actually melted butter. Cold butter gets stuck in the roller and even though the mixer comes with a hand scraper/spatula that perfectly fits the roller grooves I'd rather not have to stop and scrape. The cake whips are not really sturdy enough for soft cookie dough or batter bread but for regular cake batter or mixes they work fine. The machine is built to last and the parts are easy to clean by hand (I don't have a dishwasher so can't speak to that). This mixer is expensive but is worth saving for and should last a long time. I got the matte black and it lives on the kitchen counter.

  • An Excellent Bread Mixer! And Great Service Too!
    By on - Verified Buyer
I have only had my mixer a week but have done three very different doughs and bakes so I have some appreciation of the Ankarsrum mixer. Since attending bread classes at the San Francisco Baking Institute I have wanted a spiral mixer both for capacity and bread characteristics. When the gears on our Kitchen Aid started groaning on my bread dough I decided it was time. (Note: I have a wood fired oven and need about 12 to 15 pounds of dough as a minimal batch so big batches are helpful. )

First impressions of the Ankarsrum mixer are quite positive. While the instructions are a bit vague online videos are helpful. While I am still tuning my process it is clear the dough mixes well and is kneaded more gently and with less aeration than a conventional mixer. To date my doughs have generally been underdeveloped but that is just fine tuning. Experience so far suggests the results with this mixer will be quite predictable and that is s blessing.

I love that it doesn't walk like conventional mixers. And I like the range of speed control and the timer which give more freedom to your baking process.

Two cautions. Heavy bread doughs like to grab scrapers And utensils so TURN IT OFF when you put any object inside the bowl. Also, treat the scraper with care to protect the scraping edge of the blade. It can be nicked somewhat easily which I did. On the plus side a little rubbing on a fingernail smoothed it back up and it is working perfectly.

    Great service from Pleasant Hill.

  • I should have bought this sooner

I love my new mixer. I can mix enough dough in the large stainless bowl to make several loaves of bread; with my Kitchen Aid it was impossible. I especially like the scraper feature and the lid. I can proof my bread in the same bowl as mixed in. I recently recommended this mixer to a friend who also owns a Kitchen Aid and she was as impressed with the features as I was. I should have bought this sooner.

  • Love this mixer!

Especially great for bread dough (I've had more success with the roller attachment than the dough hook). Open top makes adding ingredients a snap. After breaking the gears in my Pro Kitchen Aid so many times, I decided to try this unusual mixer. Solid construction, and beautiful too. I like the whisk attachments for light mixing. Very clever design. The only thing lacking is a good manual on how to use it! I finally found one online.

  • Ankarsrum is for serious bakers
    By on - Verified Buyer
This is a very heavy duty mixer that excels at large batches of bread dough. The whisk assembly is not as good as a Kitchen Aid because the gears are plastic and the teeth can break. I wish the gears were more sturdy. If you whisk butter it needs to be very, very soft. What I really like about it is that it's easier to add ingredients. With a Kitchen Aid the mixer head is in way on top and you have to stop and raise it out of the way to add ingredients. With the Ankarsrum that isn't necessary. I think the quality is better than a Kitchen Aid as well. With my Kitchen Aid the bowl kept disconnecting. Be prepared for a learning curve because it's substantially different than a Kitchen Aid and the instructions it comes with are not very good. I use mine every week and I think my breads and pastries are very good. It's expensive but I would get it again.

  • Best Mixer Ever!
    By on - Verified Buyer
I took a long time to finally decide to buy this mixer. The design was different from any I'd used, and the price was higher. But I'd been through KitchenAid, Cuisinart and Breville and was still unhappy. This is the absolute best I've ever used. The design is brilliant, it takes on small jobs and big, and there is hardly any mess to clean up due to the brilliant design! I love this mixer, and recommend it highly. I'm looking forward to years with it. Kneads dough like a charm, mixed my cakes well with no problems, can handle the tiniest job or the biggest and is a joy to work with.

  • Exceeded my expectations.

This is my first "stand" mixer. After careful consideration and many hours of research, I finally decided on the Ankarsrum. My primary reason for selecting this machine is for bread doughs. My first bread dough had a hydration of 68%. The mixer handled it effortlessly. But the real test came when I made bagels. The recipe said to take it out of the mixer when the mixer got hot (presumably with a KitchenAid) and knead 10 more minutes by hand. I was able to finish the dough in the Ankarsrum without any intervention other than removing the bowl scraper because it started to interfere with the kneading action of the roller. I have yet to use the other attachments other than for testing, but I will update my review when I do. Over all, I'm am pleased with the choice I have made and think it's worth the price tag of a machine that will probably give me years of service.

  • Good Appliance
    By on - Verified Buyer
I ditched an old food processor and an older Kitchen Aid Mixer and replaced all functions with the Ankarsrum. I use the S/S drum for bread but the mixer works great as well. Blender good, slicer good, mincer good, juicer good... what can I say. I've been using the 'roller' for mixing and kneading bread dough but am going to use the bread hook for the first time making some stiff bagel dough. One needs to 'fish' sliced or shredded veggies out of the food processor throat but that's no problem. One thing overlooked but good with this system is easy cleanup. Good quality consistent with price.

  • Excellent for bread
    By on - Verified Buyer
So far, I've loved the mixer for making bread. The learning curve isn't as steep as I was led to believe, but I do have to rework certain recipes and figure out when it is best to add which ingredients. You actually require less flour and the dough is ready for its rise much more quickly than with my Bosch. And it is SOOO quiet. Also, despite the fact that it weighs far less than the Bosch or the KitchenAid, it is incredibly stable. This one doesn't go for walks across the counter.

Although the components are largely dishwasher safe, I've found that it's better to wash them by hand simply because of their shape. Nonetheless, it's still easier to clean than my Bosch was. My only complaint is the lip at the top of the bowl. Because it curls inwards, dough catches there.

We'll see how it does with cakes and cookies, though I've been forewarned to make sure that butter and cream cheese need to be well-softened before creaming.

  • Heavy duty, great mixer

The closest thing to hand kneading. Develops great texture in baked goods. Able to do large batches. Powerful, quality product. Expensive, but worth it! Would recommend it.
