In a machine that costs as much as this one, this piece should be able to handle mixing cookies, even ones made with whole wheat. I find the plastic gears break to easily, even using the mixing blades, not the whisk. However, if you need this part, you need it. I didn't see options.
I love everything about my Ankarsrum mixer except this gear. It seems to be the weak link in the machine. I ordered two this time so I have a spare next time it breaks.
Had to replace this part as some of the gears broke off during operation. Seems to me such a well made appliance should have a more durable gear in the whisk assembly, instead of plastic that easily breaks. I also felt the part was a bit expensive, since I already paid a lot for the mixer.
This replacement gear broke on my first batch of cookies, sending black plastic into the batter. Thankfully, I was given a replacement for free. This new gear is not as durable as those previously made.
I was disappointed the piece broke cogs. New one works well. Hopefully it will continue that way.
The whisk that comes with the Akarsrum mixer works great for cream, egg whites, and light batters. Much too my chagrin, it isn't really meant for heavier cookie dough though.
Instead of ruining a perfectly good mixer, it ends up jumping gears in the whisk assembly. Everything considered, that's a great failure mode, as it keeps repairs very easy and cheap. In fact, while the gears were damaged, they still operated mostly OK.
Nonetheless, I want my mixer to be perfect, and I checked whether I could get a replacement part. I was delighted to discover that Pleasant Hill Grain not only sells the part I needed, but it's not even all that expensive. This turns out to have been one of the less expensive lessons in life. Whew
I still love my Ankarsrum mixer, but from now on I'll make sure to use the correct attachment for the job.
I accidentally added a frozen cube of lemon and it broke parts of the gear into pieces. I made do with the existing gear but it made weird sounds when the mix became thick so finally replaced it. People, don’t be like me. You need to baby this machine when using this gear.
Based on reviews that state this year is the weak link in an excellent machine, I ordered two with my new purchase.
This gear is just like the original. I now know not to put chocolate chips in the bowl, unless you want to keep buying gears.
I was pleased to be able to purchase the part I broke instead of the entire assembly. The part came quickly and clearly replace the broken one.
