In continuous production for over forty years, Meadows hammer mills combine practical design and proven reliability with simplicity and economical cost. They're in use across the U.S. and around the world, in applications ranging from processing grain for livestock feed to grinding glass bottles for recycling.
The Meadows hammer mill operates by impact action and will pulverize most dry, free-flowing materials. Material fed into the hammer mill from the top falls into the grinding chamber. The material is contacted by a series of hardened steel hammers rotating at high speed. The material is ground by repeated contact with these hammers, contact with the walls of the grinding chamber, and particle to particle contact. The material remains in the hammer mill grinding chamber until particles become small enough to escape by passing through the perforated screen that covers the bottom half of the grinding chamber. Interchangeable hammer mill screens are available with hole diameters from 1/64" to 2", to allow for fine or coarse grinding of most products.
Bottom-discharge (gravity discharge) hammer mills may be used when the product to be processed will be processed to a consistency 1/16” or larger. Mills must be equipped with a material handling fan (air conveyor) when the product will be processed to a consistency 3/64” or smaller. The bottom-discharge hammer mills are limited to the following interchangeable screen sizes; 2”, 1-1/2”, 1”, 3/4”, 5/8”, 17/32”, 1/2”, 3/8”, 11/32”, 5/16”, 1/4”, 3/16”, 5/32”, 1/8”, 3/32”, 5/64”, and 1/16”.
Mills equipped with a material handling fan may utilize the screen sizes listed above, plus 3/64”, 1/32”, and 1/64”. The screen sizes listed are the diameter of the perforation measured in inches. The output volume of the hammer mill is determined by screen size, shaft speed (normally 3,600 rpm), and configuration of the hammers, which can be set up to suit your application.
The Meadows gasoline motor powered #5 hammer mill is available in either the bottom-discharge (gravity discharge) or material handling fan discharge (air conveyor) option. Both options include a Kohler electric/recoil start gasoline engine, fuel tank, battery, battery box, and battery cables. The hammer mill, engine, battery box and belt drive with guard are mounted on a welded steel foundation. The material handling fan option includes a size 2 material collector with filter bag dust collection system, a support rod for material collector, sufficient 4" diameter pipe to extend from the outlet of the material handling fan to the inlet of the material collector and a brute cover with clamp.
A shipping crate fee of $100 will be chraged. Freight shipping costs also apply; for a shipping quote, please call or e-mail with your city, state and zip code. Standard lead time is 4 weeks.

Additional notes:
Bottom Line: If you’re a highly detail-oriented person, we recommend sticking to “R1.” But after a week’s use, the only real difference between one of these items and a brand new one will be the money you saved. |
