Skeppshult Cast Iron Heart Waffle Iron, 8.25 inch
Make heart-shaped waffles with the Skeppshult cast iron stovetop waffle maker! To use, preheat the waffle iron on one side, then flip the iron over and preheat on the other side. Once hot, open the waffle iron and pour batter in. Cook for about 45 seconds, then flip the iron over and cook for another 10 seconds. Open the waffle iron to check doneness. Leave on heat until waffles are golden brown.
Skeppshult of Sweden manufactures artisanal cast iron cookware from strictly controlled raw materials in their factory in Småland. Made without harmful chemicals, their products have an exceptionally long life span, which explains how they can provide a 25 year cast iron warranty. Their natural and environmentally friendly cookware is made without harmful chemicals and requires little maintenance. Skeppshult cast iron is PFOA-free, PTFE-free and cadmium-free.
Skeppshult's factory operates the only remaining foundry in Scandinavia making household products in cast iron. Many phases in the manufacturing are still pure hand craftsmanship and dependent upon great professional skill. Undergoing an average of ten quality control inspections before completion, your Skeppshult cookware will withstand year after year of heavy use, metal utensils and high heat. Skeppshult pans are nearly impossible to wear out. Pre-seasoned with organic rapeseed oil, your Skeppshult pan arrives ready to use with a natural nonstick coating.
All Skeppshult cast iron cookware performs just as well on gas, ceramic, radiant, halogen or electric ranges as well as induction heat sources. Magnetic cast iron cookware heats quickly, disperses and stores heat better than other cookware material, and works well with high heat. Thanks to these qualities, cast iron provides an excellent roasting surface.
Using the right products and traditional cooking optimizes the beneficial iron content of our food. With iron anemia a challenge for many, the best way to help yourself while cooking at home is through slow cooking in combination with foods rich in iron, such as red meat, egg yolks and dark leafy greens. Many foods such as tomatoes also help to increase your iron intake by absorbing substantial quantities of minerals from cast iron cookware. And while many makers use recycled cast iron of questionable safety, Skeppshult uses only virgin iron ore.
The bottom of each Skeppshult cookware piece has a slightly concave shape which adds stability to stovetop use and minimizes the risk of injury.
Carl E. Andersson established his foundry on the shores of the Nissan river in 1906. Much has happened since then, but Skeppshult's commitment to fine craftsmanship remains strong. In an age of mass-produced mediocrity, a Skeppshult pan is a connection to a timeless standard of excellence. A Skeppshult pan is both tool and inspiration, an investment you'll never regret.

I just received my order and made our first batch. We used a gluten free batter and they came out crispy and perfect. The pros... This was the only new cast iron waffle maker I found not made in China... it's made in Sweden. Next, I was happy to see it was pre-seasoned so I didn't have to burn off the wax. We love the fun heart design as well. The con is the price. I suppose since cast iron lasts forever it is worth it. A note. We heated the pan several minutes directly on a gas stove before using any batter... sprayed generously with cooking oil... cooked two minutes on one side... flipped over to cook two more minutes and perfect.. It took us three tries to get it perfect and we timed it. Highly recommend and want to buy more cast iron from this company!2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you?
Yes - heavy. You will be shocked when you first lift it out of the shipping box. By the way, it was shipped the same day I ordered and received two days later. Back to the waffle iron... We are still learning the tricks of using it on our gas burner in order to get golden brown on each side. First secret is to let pre-heat for longer than you think is necessary. Because of its mass, it takes some time. I use a little dab of butter before each waffle to ensure no sticking and to add to the flavor and browning. Epicurious has an excellent Norwegian Waffle recipe with lots of eggs. We really enjoyed our first experience of crisp, thin, heart shaped waffles with fruit and syrup. Was this review helpful to you?
A timelessly beautiful waffle iron that's nostalgic of pioneer and frontier living, an heirloom that will stand the test of many generations to come! It truly looks too pretty to use and adds such a sweet country charm of our home. We were ever so glad to have found one that is made out of a safe material. There's a comfort in knowing there wouldn't be potentially toxic compounds leaching into our food. Virgin iron ore is pure, non-recycled cast iron that is nearly indestructible. This is our first purchase from Skeppshult and were surprised at how much heavier it was compared to any other cast iron pieces we own. The waffle iron is so heavy, it weighed down the plastic that protected it by sinking near the bottom and tore a little hole in part of the box during shipping but there was no damage that we know of. PHG packed it nicely (we'd just encourage perhaps a couple more layers of bubble wrap to envelope the pan just in case) and was promptly shipped the very day we made our purchase. Our first batch of waffles (from Sue Gregg's "Whole Grain Baking" book) came out beautifully on one side but I need more practice to adjust to cooking in this type of cookware. The texture you get is unlike anything any electric waffle maker could ever produce. The heart design is our favorite. We are looking forward to mastering the art of making lots of yummy, old-fashioned Scandinavian sweetheart waffles: )Was this review helpful to you?
