To make flour, crickets are first dehydrated. Then they're ground, which can be done with a variety of machine types. The ABC Hansen Disc Mill
The ABC Hansen disc mill is a multi-purpose grinder of exceptional versatility. In its base configuration it comes with stainless steel grinding plates (aka discs/disks) that are infinitely adjustable for an output texture ranging from very coarse to very fine. The milling discs have a long service life and are easily replaceable.
Other milling-head options are available for the ABC Hansen grinder, including a hammer mill attachment and composite corundum stone burrs. Hammer mills reduce particle size by high speed impact with rotating steel bars. Material stays within the hammer milling chamber until particles are small enough to pass through the holes of the hammer mill’s exit screen, and interchangeable screens with a variety of hole sizes are available. The stone burr milling heads provide an ultra-fine milling option.
The stainless steel discs of the ABC Hansen disc mill have proven ideal for grinding cricket flour from dehydrated crickets, making cricket powder with a high degree of uniformity that’s excellent for food production.
The food contact parts of the ABC Hansen disc mill are food-grade stainless steel. A large hopper feeds the mill, and construction is heavy duty throughout.
